M62 or East Lancs are both decent quick routes, and there's a few places to switch from one to the other. Leaving at 5.00 will hit more rush hour traffic than leaving at 5.30. I'd reckon leaving at 5.30 will see you arrive no more than 10-15 mins later than leaving at 5.00. If there's an accident that means that it takes over 2 hours, then that's just the bad luck of being behind that accident.
