  1. heard yesterday, the reason hes gone is , he went for taylor on the team bus and had to dragged off, came from kilkenny apparantly, dont normally post rumours but dont think he will be back, good riddance if thats the case
  2. not my best memory but one of my first was city away, think its was a night match , either that a late in the year, 2-1 tommy wright double, and sir jimmy calling the blues yardogs on gmr after the game. we sure made the most of that
  3. dont know weather you would agree and dont know if it has been mentioned today but does anyone think we would have won today with a haf decent (fit) keeper today, Mark Crossley had 4 things to do today the cross in the first half and 3 shots in the 2nd. the cross hit the post and the 3 shots hit the net ( 1 offside) i know beresford was injures but todat in my opinion (not seen replays) but he should have done better with everything, and if he was injured ( his back) like it looked after the cross he should have been taken off. proud of the boys today, good football, deserved the win, we cant wait for pog at the moment as it seems marlon is donr. new keeper is needed now as crossley is a liability, excuse spelling, opinions please.
  4. last season a hell of lot of our goals came from liddell and taylors supply. in my opinion davies is having a negative effect on both of those players as an attacking oulet, he condences the play on the wings and doesnt release it, afecting the supply into the box, which correct me if im wrong where he should be. i dont doubt hes scored 6 , but working hard is not enough, if you have a footballing brain and a good first touch, we can go far in this division.( not saying you dont need workers but you have to pick your moments)this is an easy game if you use your brain e.g sheridan when he signed for us ( not a realistic comparisson i know) pace is good thing, no doubt, but at times we need to slow the game down, everthing we do is rushed , parlty due to davies. i think he will finish top scorer if things carry on like this. but scunthorpe and colchester and ourselves to an extent last season showed, if you play as a team, this division is ther for the taking. we have individuals, but they are not playing together, and he is the main culprit. im not one to boo players when wearing and oldham shirt and i will give him his chance, unlike some fans with other squad members. i just looking at from whole season point of view, not the first dozen games.
  5. yes but if you lose davies for a while then we may create more, not only the strike pair but with the midfield pushing forward to support. i think one of the reason the midfield is sitting back is because if we do push forward, davies will not release it and we will be caught on the break. for the good of the team, i think he has to be changed. dont get me wrong i am not on a hate davies campaign, but he needs to learn and by watching ricketts and hughes, and even wolfy he may well do. his attitude seems good and he is willing to work hard, but it just is not enough. hes scored 6, he should have twice that and he he learns his game it will happen. but at the moment its just not working. drop him for the good of the whole team, not just one individual who looks a threat but produces nothing.
  6. i mentioned this on an earlier thread. hughes can read a game far better than davies and will take a chance on one of ricketts knockdowns. davies plays for himself and trys to beat every man on the field, he always has his head down.his first touch is a disgrace and when he does pass it is always 5 mins after he should have released it in the first place. i know davies has 6 or 7 goals this season, but does he actually fill anyone with confidence when shooting at goal.the one on one was a joke at weekend ( ricketts would have scored as would wolfy or hughes ) as a team i think performances would improve, if maybe he was used in the last 20 mins from the bench. the ball would certainly stay in the final third for longer for a sustained attack. we might even work the opposing keeper once in a while. just an opinion.... but the more i watch davies the more i lose faith in the team to score enough goals to keep us up, not to mention push for the playoffs.
  7. i dont post very often, and i have only read the first post on this thread but i just wanted to say thankyou, its good to know some latics fans know what they are talking about, i sit in the lookers paddock nr the chaddy and some of the comments are clueless, ricketts was our best player today, granted out of a poor bucnch, but in the first hour he won everything and played the ball very intelligenty. when they announced the star man as ricketts and it was jeered it was disgraceful( not to mention the fact he was booed from the chaddy when his name was announced at the start ). some people watch the game with blinkers on.the reason we only got a point at huddersfield is because ricketts was not there in the second half to hold the ball up and bring people in. one of the main reason we are not scoring goals and winning games at the moment is davies. his first touch is awful and he plays with his head down, he is a glory hunter and he is not fit to clean porters boots (sorry) hes found his level and we will not make a profit if he does not learn to play it simple.he plays on his own, not with or off ricketts. if we can get hughes fit and raring to go i would drop davies either to the bench or maybe instead of taylor on the wing. hughes may not have the pace but he can read the game like rickets and will take a chance on one of his knock downs, and after 3 years away from the game i would have more confidence of hughes finishing the one on one in the first half, he would hit the target at the vey least. how many times does davies make the keeper work in a game? to answer my own question not enough. one simple change to the current team and there will be a big difference, hughes for davies.the whole dimension of the team will change and the midfield might support the attack for once.we might create more as a team and actuall score some goals. sorry for the rant but its been bugging me for weeks, also spelling and punctuation might be poor but ive been drinking since i left the ground, had to cheer myself up some how. i am the eternal optimist, but some latics fans really need to get a clue.
