Yet looking at the goals Bryan missed the ball in the air leading to all 3 goals.

Clarke can't seem to get his feet off the ground either and this IMO is proving our achilles heel.

We also need to stop crosses and long balls coming in by quicker closing down.

Bryan looked good in other phases of play but as BP says he was at the root of the action for all three goals.

Nevertheless he has generally been excellent during our good run so let's learn and move on.

Yes because 4-4 and  2-3 get you more points than 0-0 and 0-1? ....yes I would rather watch the former

ps the world fell I when we lost 3-2 in first round last year I recall .....

I understand ,but you have to look at the performance. Today was light years away from the performance against Lincoln. The defence does need tightening, but the performances and entertainment are vastly improved on last year. At least I can get up off my seat and celebrate goals scored and applaud exciting attacking play.

That is harsh on Dumnlingham, he was isolated so many times I thought he did well without much help, the brain fart at the end aside.

Agree I thought it was one of Dummingham's best games particularly when he was left exposed in the second half also great clearance in the first half to dig Clarke out.

I'm a bit concerned the central midfielders have done a lot of running and aren't lasting the 90 minutes.

Problem is we don't appear to have the quality to replace them.

Agree,we are playing a high intensity game and Saturday/Tuesday may be difficult to sustain the same level of performance for 90 minutes. The football we are playing is great win or draw my big concern is can we maintain the intensity in the second half of the season ?

The starting 11 almost picks itself and it would bE difficult to argue any significant changes so barring forced changes we logically keep the same starting 11. Significant rotation and resting the likes of Byrne,Gardner and Fane is a difficult decision.

  5. Comparing Banks and Fane is futile. They are different players. For some reason Shez thought playing Fane was high risk. But to get a TEAM together you need a mix of skills. England won the World Cup with Nobby Stiles in midfield he was a cog in the TEAM but there more skilful players around who didn't get picked. Latics went through the pinch me seasons with Miligan and Henry in midfield not cultured players but part of a TEAM.The hangers on in the Premiership days who are nowhere to be seen now used to boo Milligan while he was warming up for his lack of apparent skill i.e not being like Glenn Hoddle.

Lets get behind the TEAM enjoy the moment and not slag Banks off because he doesn't fit into the current set up its futile and he's history

  6. Good summary of what was said.

some may be glad that Corney is the "Former Chairman" but alarming that it needs our former manager to confirm it.

This and 8 players turning up unannounced doesn't bode well for the future.

I don't think Wellens has any chance of being appointed with this crew in charge.

I commented before the game that their fans are aggressive. They showed that today they are a disgrace. I have never in 50 years had to be escorted out of a ground by the "back door" . All this "Play up Pompey" is a front, they are an embarrassment to football and can't take defeat.

As an addendum one old lady apologised to us after the game for the behaviour of their idiots, which was nice.

Must say some of their fans ain’t exactly gracious in defeat. Some of their twitter posts are appalling

Banks tracking their no 7, never gets goal side, 7 wasn't the scorer but it's not good enough in this new energetic and committed team I suspect.

Some of you guys attack  Banks before he has laced his boots up. Give him a break, we won with one one of the best away performances I have ever seen, why bring negative Banks sentiments into it. Try tomenjoy the moment

orami first game came on 61 minutes, give the guy time, as for queesny he's had 15 mins before today, he made a few runs today where he could of been played in but midfield failed to play the ball to release him

    That's better.

It's ok giving players time I appreciate that, but unfortunately we are in a dog fight in Division 1 and we seem to be a Development squad. Ruddy,Edmundson,Byrne,Bryan,Orami, Neap....,Qeensey, with an ageing defence that is struggling to cope at this level any longer.

    It's a good mix.

Wouldn't say you can't express such an opinion but to blame 4 goals on 2 midfield substitutes is bollocks... our woeful defence (never rated Gerrard and a vastly out of form Clarke) and a shockingly bad goalkeeper are more to blame

Unfortunately they contributed nothing and released a tidal wave on an addmittedly already deficient defence, they were the final straw that broke the camels back today.

I haven't seen one iota of evidence that they are capable of playing at any level of competence in Division 1.

Failures that are being foisted on us for reasons other than football

We must have played 1000 games in this league one now....500 at home. That is 750 hours of watching Latics at home ....that is 20 full working weeks!

Are  we any better or any worse as a team or any further forward or any further back as a club than when we played the first of those games?

we play Shrewsbury today...is it just me or do we seem to have just played Shrewsbury or Walsall or just be about to play Shrewsbury or Walsall for the last 20 years

Yes Shrewsbury Walsall and Gillingham. We are the ultimate Groundhog club. Perhaps today may feel different when we beat the top of the league not just any old Shrewsbury
