Well.  Seeing as the previous 20 plus years have been desperate I see no problem with starting from fresh.  Every single person connected with the club is part of that underachievement.

True, but perhaps at some point in the next 20 years we should give continuity a try.Perhaps Abdallah will be better at picking managers than he is at players

Well my post has caused quite an eclectic mix of responses. On the whole a positive mix but you get a sense of infighting between certain members of this forum.

I didn't post what I did to get back slapped or cause a stir of emotions.

I just wanted to voice my love for the club from past memories, present woes and future success,  hopefully !!!

I have been 150miles away now for a number of years and spend most my time surrounded by Man Utd, Liverpool, Everton, Newcastle and the odd Carlisle and newly founded Man City glory hunters. You see most people where I live follow their chosen clubs from success or because it sounds good to say you support Man City, in their opinion.

These people dismiss me when I say I support Oldham, it is normally the end of the conversation unless I carry on to listen about their premier league and european adventures.

But I look at these people who are friends and colleagues and think they have no idea what it is like to support a football club, they just chose to do so,  like we would choose a new pair of trainers. I did not choose to be an Oldham fan, it is in my blood and a generation of my family and friends have done so in the past and will continue to do so.

The same as , Rochdale, Bury, Tranmere etc, we all hurt for our clubs and we also feel great pleasure also at times and through the years.

We are a different breed, most of us, if like myself were born to support our club no matter what, no matter who owns us, the state of our ground ( which is a great ground, no matter what anyone says ), what division we are in, who the manager is and no matter how inferior we are supposed to feel in the shadow of the bigger clubs who surround us.

I support Oldham and i am proud of it, I am proud of Oldham as a place, is it a dump, maybe in parts, but so is everywhere else.  I live minutes from, the coast, Mountains and Lakes, it is nice yes, but I am also minutes away from dumps also.

And as nice as it is up here, I enjoy nothing more than driving around Saddleworth and other nice areas of Oldham, in fact driving all over Oldham fills me with great memories.

I then come home to Cumbria and its nice, thats all, its not Oldham and never will be. Always be proud of your roots !!!

Let people say what they will about our club and town, what do they know, its not in their heart like it is in ours. Just laugh at them they are just narrow minded.

So we should all get along for the greater good of our club, show AL how much this club means and stop fighting each other, we all have different opinions and thoughts, dont waste energy arguing on here, put that energy to good use, save it up over the summer and support the team with all your might in August.

The Chaddy used to suck goals in, i'm sure of it !!

As for KEEP THE FAITH, it is just 3 words, but they are what I chose to remember to stay positive, use what words do the same for you, please dont wince at the sight or sound of it though, I had great times keeping the faith !!

Thats it, have a beer or a glass of wine and remember we will have a great season.

    Great post Maximus

It appears that I have taken the reverse journey, my  username defines where I was born and brought up. Never in a million years did I think when growing up that I would break the mould of Man Utd, Carlisle and dare I say Workington Reds.

I know it's upsetting and all but it's been confirmed that..

Corney has left a lot of shit to be mopped up with hidden bills and also the huge tax bill that still looms large... The blame still has to lie with Corney for the way he run the club and Abdallah has obviously been hoodwinked. He explicitly stated when he first took charge that he doesn't have a large amount of money.

I'm going to pause on the whole 'we're doomed' posts because I am repeating myself. I'll just wait til December...

The majority of business sales include indemnities whereby the seller has to pay for specific known future liabilities (in this case potential tax bill incurred before sale) and hidden liabilities that were not disclosed in due diligence. It is highly unlikely that Abdallah has been hoodwinked if he has a half decent solicitor.

Correct as far as I know. We held on for far too long trying to get him. Shez then insisted on playing Wilson and Ruddy, both of them way off League 1 standard. Somewhat ironic that Ripley ended up in League 1 after all.

Even more ironic that he ended up on the bench of a team bottom of League 1

  5. The root of the problem isn't who is thrown the poisoned chalice of manager of the club but the circus that the club has become over the years. It is rotten to the core and events over the last month have convinced me about that even more. That is the real problem going into next season and  I cannot get the experience of Orient over the last few years out of my mind.

So we’re financially competitive then and do in fact have money?

Now that we are free of embargoes etc we may be financially competitive. At this stage none of us know, will have to see how the signings pan out in the Summer.

Do you think Eoin Doyle and Jack Byrne were cheap?

Most teams in our division have players that cost as much as them some already relegated. For example  in terms of financial clout we are well behind Bury who started the season with a seasoned and previously successful manager.

  8. All of a sudden some think that Keith Hill is some sort of wonder manager. Ask the Rochdale fans and you will get a similar attitude to him as we are getting for Richie Wellens. It's about what happens on the day in both games end of. Our situation is the culmination of the years of short termism in the way the club has been run. Remember we have had no money and Wellens has had to work with what he inherited and what we could afford as did Sheridan and he walked away from it.

Why is Pep at City ? Simple access to vast sums of money to buy players,no doubt he is a good coach but he would struggle without the money.

whybdid Wigan and Blackburn get promoted ? Not wonder managers Paul Cook and Tony Mowbray but biggest player budgets.

    Sorry don't agree.

First half we were crap hence getting booed off at HT.

Davies clearly not match fit. God knows why Wellens started with him instead of Holloway.

And Tope just lacks quality. Quick yes but often runs round like a headless chicken!

Still can't understand not starting with Byrne again. We looked a different team when he came on at HT. He's our best bloody player. It's up to Wellens to manage and motivate him properly not keep dropping him and bringing him on at HT. 90 mins of Jack and Holloway and we would have won no question today.

Do agree though Gardner was my MOM... He put in a right shift today, and the lads Hamer and Edmundson looked solid at the back. Fane also disciplined and effective today.

Just a bit pissed of its a game we could and should have won if Wellens got his side right from the start.

Our best 11 is the11 who finished today so let's hope he sticks with this on Tuesday as it looks like Gerrard is out which will be a blow as he won everything in the air today.

He started Davis because he is desperate to reignite his partnership with Doyle. As soon as Davis could walk unaided he was going to be selected. To be fair in the circumstances I thought he lut a decent shift in and was as effective as Holloway

I was on my soap box there. Apologies.

I totally agree about Ronnie Moore. I’ve said it a few times on the thread. He is the only standout, where looking back he shouldn’t of been sacked. The fans got him sacked, not the results.  He was a lower league sam allardyce.

Thing is, I just can’t for the life of me understand why as fans we should be bothered about how long a manager has been at the club. If he’s doing well, he stays. If we’re struggling, he comes under scrunity. Surely, that is only fair and rational?

Why should the carousel stop, if they aren’t good enough? Otherwise we’re always hoping somebody might turn good while for 18 months we watch pretty average football. Shouldn’t we should be looking at better recruitment? How many applications do we get when the job comes up??? We always go cheap. Steve Evans was close, would of been a fantastic appointment, but it fell through. If AL has got a bit to throw at it, he’s the type I would want, or as somebody else said Graham Alexander. It’s no guarantee, but some pedigree would be nice.

If he keeps us up and got sacked, I think he would feel hard done by. An to be fair, I can understand why. But I’m not arsed about sentiment, I just want better for us than settling for 17th.

I'm coming round to the view that there are very few stand out managers, the chances are most are pretty similar. They go to the same school follow the same curriculum and all use a variety of the same systems. That is one reason why football has become more sterile over the years with teams cancelling one another out.

I just can't see who at this point would be better than Wellens and therefore my vote goes for stability.
