Not sure where that result leaves us in prospects for the season. The standard of football for sure is a step down from the previous 20 odd years. Can we rise above it and get promoted ?

First half we were good. Second half not so much. We haven’t been able to field our best 11 yet and it’s certainly not been a settled start. Onwards and upwards. I’ve seen flashes of some good play. We have a proper striker it seems and the defence looked much better today.
So yes, I’m very positive. Your wisdom now please.
"Your wisdom now please" Why do you have to be confrontational ? It is only Archie's opinion on a football match.

Didn't I reply to the effect that it was a fucking stupid question? I was probably more polite at the time.
It's not a "fucking stupid" question and I don't expect specific responses on individual circimstances, just whether the Trust with Director responsibilities are happy with how this aspect of the club is being operated. I don't expect a representative of the Trust to give me that response.

Have still not had a response to this question, even though since then ,the Trusts former representative on the Board has left after a very short period of employment.

If Jack had deliberately injured Fane in training would your next move be to send him to train with the youths and put them at risk? I think not. The most likely scenario is that AL in his inimitable style is trying to get Jack Byrnes wages off the payroll.Say what you will about his attitude and character, any manager worth his salt would want to try to be the one to turn him into the player he is capable of becoming. Whatever AL says about managers picking teams this situation is clearly out of Frankie Bunn's control and I think it is getting to him.

My only thought on this statement is,actions speak louder than words,so let's wait and see.

A few over the top comments here imo. We have played 2 games. I didn't go yesterday but we didn't lose. We lost on opening day which even the best teams do sometimes, and to the favourites for the league. We are missing 6 or 7 players and we have a new management team in.
Can we not just see how it goes for the first 10 games? We wasn't far off the pace against mk last week things haven't derailed that much since then.
It's not a dunn Darren whatsisface situation yet
I wondered who would be first to mention the fabled"1st 10 games"". I am sick of waiting to see what happens after the first 10 games season after season and just hoped that this season would be different. Sadly not and after yesterday can't see where the next win is coming from no matter how bad the opposition.

Incredible what this owner is getting away with.
The trouble is OAFC and us fans are not getting away from it

Although a small matter, that is symptomatic of the complete lack of understanding in the club of EFL football

Being from Cumbria when I first moved down to Manchester I went to see Carlisle at Oldham. My abiding memory was waiting on Weneth station waiting for the train back to Manchester and being stoned by Oldham fans. For the last 30 odd years have ended up supporting the Latics.

We are all sympathetic to the alleged "shit" that AL has had to sort out.The mess with the ticketing however is entirely oh his own making. There are simply not enough staff in the office and those that are there will be new to the process hence the mess.

I don’t think we’ve ever started a season with such weak attacking options and that’s counting Robinson’s season. We need bryne and Baxter, if bryne doesn’t go before the start surely he has to play rather than rotting training with the kids
Byrne won't play if you are on the wrong side of AL that's it. He had Fane suspended when we needed him in our relegation fight.

In my opinion AL has the best interests of our club and obviously wants us to succeed as owner. He’s retaining or involving Oldham ‘fans’ in the process; Trust, Brooke as CD, Owen in advisory position...even FB & AR as Manager & Assistant Manager. Might not all be his decisions but appears to have tapped into what this club means rather than trying to make it a money maker.
With those fans in and around AL now, would they all remain quiet to retain their positions, salaries etc if AL was driving the club into the ground? I very much doubt it after the issues with Corney.... that’s what I mean.
All irrelevant really as I think AL has his own wealth or networked investment from elsewhere to improve matters and AL wants us to succeed.
Surrounding himself with fans isn't on the agenda for AL,fans or not he will sack any of them .

I don't think so. The club print the cards themselves. When I lost mine towards the end of last season, I went to the ticket office and they printed me a new one whilst I waited.
On this occasion, it's probably more likely due to the lad who used to do it having left and nobody else knows how to work the software/printers properly.
There is nobody else left apart from Barry

I didn't know him,but for sure we have lost one of the sanest and honest posters on here.
Deepest condolences to his family and friends

That’s because we had a prat of a manager who would not play them. He would play the likes of his mate Pringle and his Celtic mates protege Benyu and his Irish wonderful player McEleny who he raves about but was as shit as any player I’ve seen in an Oldham shirt for many a year
The facts are Pringle 13 appearances McEleney 4 Benyu 3. The majority of fans saw Pringle as a good signing it just didn't work out andWellens dropped his "mate". Benyu only played that many games because he had to be played at the end of the season after AL suspended Fane.

AL former agent lots of contacts brings a few over for FB to check out , manager likes the look of them says sign them ..... why is that a problem sounds like a good way of getting good players on the cheap
No problem at all so long as he pays my wages next month and said few dig in on a cold Tuesday night in November at BP.

Maybe we should have risked it with administration..
We were effectively in administration with Corney as the administrator. TTA wouldn't have wanted an official administrator appointed as he would have uncovered too much and they may have ended up in court and lost the lot.

Can't believe we've got actual money for him, 4 goals in 60 games!
The official site doesn't say we received a fee for him perhaps, the undisclosed fee was us paying them

We knew the script. There was nobody else riding to the rescue last summer. This is the trade off.
It is the trade off,it is just hard to see it unfold.

Why are we signing only French based players and not also ones from Germany,Spain Holland and South America as premier clubs do. I tell you why, because there Is no financial interest in them for AL and/or his cronies. This club is becoming a vehicle for AL's experiment, which is going off the rails with the failure of each and every French signing to make it in English football.

If this is true Abdallah really has done his homework here combining both a club legend and experienced coach. Here is hoping Frankie can led us back to league 1 and beyond.

Seems like a very odd expectation of the Trust to me, especially as no one seems to have alleged that such legal requirements haven't been met.
48 minutes ago, kowenicki said:Yep. Just another example of assuming the worst possible scenario at every turn of events.
The mail article stated that 3 members of staff had departed and are considering taking the club to a tribunal. As a director I am sure that Simon and the Trust would not want to be party to acts that are unlawful. The role of a Director covers responsibility for all aspects of a company and cannot be restricted according to the Companies Act,even though they may appear to be engaged in a non executive capacity.
For the record I am looking forward to the new season, new grounds to visit, new manager in place and new players to support. We are however going through a period of huge change which brings with it huge risks as well as fantastic opportunities.

Personally i dont get this myth we have a brillant youth system. The only stand out for me been tarkowski. I know a few parents whose lads have left and gone else where by choice saying it is poor at Oldham, even Rochdale been mentioned as a better experiance
The major problem has been the transition from Youth to first team. With a plethora of managers most won't take a chance and suffer the inconsistencies of youth for fear of their jobs. Allied to that there has been a lack of funding available to help the transition work. Edmundson and Hamer only got into the first team at the end of the season through a desperate injury situation.
We are seeing the first move in the dismantling of the youth system,Abdallahs background is as a trader of players not a developer.

Still no wiser as to our prospects this season. We are poor particularly in midfield, but opposition are worse. How long can this continue? Good result today lets hope FB can get some momentum from this
