  1. You could see the confidence of the team grow when they realised there was someone in midfield who would distribute the ball well. They no longer had to play hoof ball. This took me back to our pass and move days. Excellent debut from a lad who's had hardly any first team football this season. He got a standing ovation when subbed and quite right too.

    Well done that Man!!!!

  2. Gregan may be out for the rest of the season, Thompson hasn't exactly inspired confidence...and who else have we got to cover in the centre? We really don't need to be pressurized in any other areas of the field. We haven't even covered the areas already identified for strengthening!

Maybe money and loans are the only way.

Hazell and Stam. The latter needs to keep his concentration better but Hazell is a natural central defender. It would leave the left full back position a little open but to be honest I thought Hazell struggled a bit there on Saturday.

  3. Oh deary, deary me.....seriously? Nah, utter rubbish.

They're paid to get results.....sadly, they're not doing that either....so it's not good, but I'll watch 46 :censored: games but win promotion than be entertained and lose. Don't get me wrong, I'd love us to be entertaining and to be flying at the top of the lot......but entertainment comes 2nd every time to results in this game I'm afraid. No matter what it costs to come through the gates and endure what happens on the pitch....when we beat Colchester 1-0 under Moore 2yrs ago, I'd witnessed the dullest game in the history of BP (ok, slight exagerration maybe) and a player I utterly disliked scored the winner in injury time (Butcher)......did I leave feeling empty? Did I hellaslike....I was over the moon! Sadly, I was one of few! Most just whined how it didn't feel like a win....pathetic I thought!

Where we are....at this level....I don't need it to be entertaining as I simply want us to succeed at all costs....boring or not! I just wish more were like that....

They are paid to play football. I pay my money to watch them play entertaining flowing football which hopefully leads to wins. The second half at Doncaster in the cup was a reminder of this clubs ethos. Football on the deck with passing to feet. The same players as are on the pitch at this moment apart from a couple of exceptions were there and they managed to win whilst playing very attractive football. Is there any need to call some ones view Rubbish because it doesn't correspond with yours. Its just a different view to yours... It might even be a better view than your own... Wouldn't that be a surprise!!!!

  4. I agree that home games are boring but I dont think the football is, I think its the fans. Fans like you. Your obviously stuck in the past and you probably just sit there expecting us to win... which is why we dont. We've got a very young squad this season and the expectations of people are breaking them. You really need to shut up about the players not being arsed at home. The players are only people and they will respond when fans get behind them, which explains our excellent away record. Craig Davies is one of our best players and hes very gifted also. Just shut up about players not caring FFS!!! You probably like players like Paul Warne who "have the heart" as you would say... but in reality are very average and never achieve anything. Just dont come to home games if your going to say things like this FFS!!!

You really need to get to your anger management classes more often. Just because someones opinion differs from your is no excuse for your post. This forum exists so that people can express their views objectively. I would recommend another site to you but can't be bothered. People... we need to challenge opinions such as this or debate is dead... Socrates!!!

  5. My views on who is responsible for the teams performances are well documented. They are paid to entertain first and foremost. I would also like to add the following.

75,000 fans turn up at Old Trafford each home game and their Manager still feels it necessary to ask them to Support the team. The team sits atop the Premiership and is probably one of the best there as been at Old Trafford. So this correlation between support, encouragement and performance doesn't seem to be to important there does it? I know you will say there is a vast difference between Manchester United and Oldham Athletic but the teams both still put 11 players on the pitch. It is about desire, skill, passion and the will to win.

Those players at Manchester United play for their Manager also. Something I don't think is happening at Oldham at the moment. I do not know who would replace Sheridan but if he doesn't go he certainly needs some man management training. A gifted player does not always make a gifted Manager. Just look at Brian Robson.

Support is extremely important but I will state again that the players have the responsibility to entertain and earn that support. As I said to a mate when getting in my car yesterday. "What an absolute pile of crap. See you Tuesday night then"

There also seems to be an assumption that because the Supporters havn't played to the exalted level of League One then we surely can't know the slightest thing about football. WRONG. Having played for top amateur team Sporting Athletic in the late 70's and winning Oldham Amateur Leagues top goal scorer in the same decade playing for the Globe I feel I know a bit about football. I have a feeling there are many others sat in that stadium who can boast better stats than mine and they have equally valid opinions on the game. Woe betide they should attempt to shout that opinion across to the Coaching team though.

I am readying myself for the personal insults now so off you go guys. God forbid I should have an opinion!!!!!

  6. Carl, you didn't give the option of 'should Sheridan go?' Not surprising. Now, every time someone brings up this topic it seems that everyone else (at least on this site) jump down their throats. There are, however, serious reservations. The last twelve months have not been very good. Most of the football is dreadful. Many of the decisions are poor. Gregan's arrival caused splits in the dressing room. Many of the signings are sub-standard. He has failed to keep his best players and failed to attract suitable replacements. Why? It can't be ALL about money. One good spell last season and that's it. I've heard from a numer of people that heis nothing more than a glorified bully when taking training sessions. Some think he is a really good, romising young coach who shuld be given time. I don't see it. I see someone who has the personality of a flea. I think it's time we seriously questioned his future as a manager.

Don't forget the fact that he and his minion TW spend the whole 90 minutes of the game berating and slagging off their own players who are out there on the pitch. They also managed to leave a young player sat stripped and ready to go for 20 minutes of the game. Inept if you ask me.

  7. why?

If i was running the club i would have made it an ABSOLUTE priority to get a striker in,lets face it if we spalshed out 200 grand on a striker we might be in the 5th round and the bloody player would have payed for himself possibly TEN times over.

i said all week this was gonna happen ,didnt take a rocket scientist did it?or did it?

too many people settling for 2nd best at this club and that is a fact

We have a striker who is on loan at Walsall. It's up to the Management team to sort out whatever has gone on and get Ricketts back and playing. To let half the squad know some fans, (You would probably call yourselves true SUPPORTERS) are willing to see the back of them half way through the season won't actually inspire confidence in them will it? These are the players we have. It doesn't look like any one else is coming in before the end of Jan so lets get behind them please...

  8. Terry, the 'twelfth man' theory is not guaranteed to work miracles on the players. Today the crowd kept trying to lift the players, but they rarely put three or four good passes together along the ground. You can't make silk purses out of sows' ears, no matter how loud you sing, and there were plenty of 'sows' out there today.

What is proved by your post and that of nealadamsheadband is that with both of you hearing all three stands in tandem/unison means there was no problem with the acoustics, so let's drop that assertion once and for all.

It was another bad day at the office - these bad days have become much too frequent - but the crowd cannot be blamed for not doing its bit towards the cause. I doubt that many of the players will have the same feeling of satisfaction about their performance.

My God we're damned if we do and damned if we don't DS

  9. Those "little kiddies" are our "little kiddies" though. The parents of those kids are Oldham fans in the stadium watching. No one really cares too much about the cheerleaders, but we might as well let the kids have their time, they are apart of the community, part of the club. Let them feel like they are apart of it.

I wondered when someone would agree with my sentiments. These Kids bring Parents who bring Aunties who bring Grandparents etc etc who all or some of might start supporting the latics. So called professional dancers are a waste of money. Only 10% of the crowd even bothered to watch. At least where I was sat that is. The point is this. We call ourselves a family club and seem to have some pride in that ethos then do something like what happened today to a set of kids. I don't care whether or not your a miserable B*****d who thinks there is no place in a football ground for such things. you don't do this to your own. Shame on you Latics.

  10. Do you think the players did there best today ? A number of them went AWOL..... Players must take some of the balme...

I don't really know the answer to your point. They looked to be doing their best in the positions they were placed. However it is the coaches job to play them in their most effective positions. Can you say they did today?

  11. I completely disaagree - I think he's totally out of form. I dont think he hid either - he is though out of form and needs a rest. Wolfenden IMO wount make the grade, I get continually annoyed with this Pick on davies attitude. The bloke behind me at Yeovil got a gobful for it from me and so did the bloke behind me today. He was no worse than anone else.

Mentions for Neal Eardley in the first half who was excellent and JPK who was my Latics man of the match til he came off.

If every one else is singing from the same hymn sheet. Have you thought it might just be you who is wrong about

Davies? I have to say though that at least he showed disappointment today when yet another of his shots flew wide.... :(

  12. And you lot are to blame, to be perfectly honest.

Those who moan and attack the players, are forcing the lads to panic, and just lump it forward. Huddersfield were poor. Negative, actually. I thought Ritchie's tactics ruined today's game, and we played well considering the amount of time-wasting etc that was going on.

The only things I'd have a dig at today was our decision making and passing. Poor, yes, but we created some very good chances, and were unlucky.

I'm disappointed to be out, but are you lot forgetting the mark we've made this season. Jesus, did you expect us to get to the final? We've been beaten rather harshly today, I feel, and the opponents are the only reason why you're annoyed. If we played like that against Everton would you still be calling them "toothless"?

I'll answer it for you: No.

What mark. We sit mid table with our cup run over. The crowd today was magnificent which is more than I can say for the players. I lay the most fault at the feet of our Manager and his wily assistant TW. Tactically inept I think some one else has typed. well I agree.

  13. I will have the fact that they were all ugly but my point is this.... Those little kids and their parents must be well impressed.. NOT... Oldham Athletic really want them when its a run of the mill game. Come a cup match where they expect a full house then all of a sudden they are just not good enough. I am ashamed of my club and its management....... Chaddy the Owl should have ignored them and joined in with us singing "We want our troupe back" instead of looking down their pants.

  14. What could be done tactically?? We have no personel. Not one player available who has the nous or craft to create good chances against a league defence. If we had Wellens today we would have won and in turn that would have probably have paid for him for a season!

The only plus is Shez knows what we need now he needs to get it. There is no way he cant get better than what we have got!

Alessandro. Alessandro. Allessandro. How much worse could it have been. A bit of pace through the middle.....

  15. The crowds performance today seems to illuminate the lie that "If we sing loud enough it will transfer to the players". I also heard the three stands singing in unison. Did it make an appeth of difference? NO it didnt did it. I am sat here hoarse and really p****d off. Sheridan was tactically naive once more. He had Lomax sat stripped for 20 minutes then didn't put him on. The Centre backs of Huddersfield had a field day because of the way we played. Admittedly we did make their keeper make two really good saves but we played straight into their hands. On occasions the high balls we punted towards them came down with snow on. Ah well here's looking towards Tuesday......

  16. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the troupe of so called lady dancers before the game and at half time. What happened to the usual dancers who try so hard before each game normally. Was it a case of "Well its a full house so we don't want a bunch of kids" or wern't they available. If I was anything to do with our usual troupe I would be telling the Tics to shove it in the future. They wern't even that good. Unless you like looking at thongs which looked like thay hadn't been washed for a month or two. Shame on you Latics!!! How to dishearten a bunch of kids.....:angry::angry:
