  1.

Leeslover can be a bit harsh with that initiation ceremony involving his old underpants and Marks's colleted toenail clipping since the 1980's... but you will generally find OASIS are a nice bunch...

This is not to be mentioned. Kev will then come along to Orient looking for a quiet pint and before he knows it he will be doing 10 sprints down Leyton High Road, a pint and a McDs double cheeseburger at the end of each one and is only allowed into the ground if he does it in under 30 mins. Sometimes Latics just isnt worth it...

I too am unsure if I will be at Orient. I am hoping to be at Millwall though

  2. Doing it on the cheap

Isnt this why everyone is heading to Sinclair's? Sam Smith's pubs are hardly known for their premium ales, vast array of wines and champagnes and lovely ladies off whom you can eat caviar and foie gras!!

  3. NO

unless you abuse them the early probs cured and insurance first class.

For a mere £10 per month, O2 will cover it anywhere in the world for only £25 excess. Its then covered for ansolutely anything and next day replacement. With that sort of service it can be fragile

  4. This is why we carefully engineered the first away game of the season to be taking place at one of OASIS' favourie watering holes... and then for Millwall and Brentford to follow suit very shortly after!

... unfortunately I wont be able to make the 1st... purely because I then spend every other weekend 'till chritmas in london with you monkeys so a pre-season get together - a week before the season starts (!!) is a step too far!

    ... cant peak too early....

    This is the problem with

    1. Not living in London

    2. Being married

    3. Being a light weight

  5.

Andy - I have moved but not in the way I wanted. A little bit irritating but too long a story to tell on here. I will PM you my number. I've lost loads of numbers recently and not sure if I still have yours. Some OASIS drinks sound like a bit of a plan. I'm planning a couple of quiet weekends this month so I'm sure they could get interrupted!!

Ryan - New job in Putney and post work drinks sound like a plan. I'm working in Olympia at the moment so can get to Putney easily after the school bell tolls and we're allowed out of work. If the weather keeps up (and it wont now and I will be persecuted for it) its certainly a great location for a few drinks

  6. Certainly. A few pre-season drinkys wouldn't go amiss, I wouldn't have thought.

As an aside, have we got any OASIS members in or around Putney?

    Hi Ryan

I'm now "Between the Commons" (Clapham and Wandswotrth) and so can am about 15 / 20 mins from Putney.

What are you thinking? Pre-season drinks by the river?

  7. That is because its never been on a bloody saturday before. I'd expect you to be present and correct (and very very drunk) this year sunshine...

11am start in the town centre... slowly working our way up Gloucester Road. Its gotta be...

I'll be there. I think I will arrive in Bristol around 2pm, go for a few orderly cokes and leave straight after the final whistle. 2009/10 - the season to be sensible*

*In no way is anything I write on this board binding. This, frankly, would be a stupid thing to do with so many close trips. Time to get on the Trainline methinks!!

  8. Really??? Fan-bloody-tastic.

    Better warn the wife...*

    *who's staying at mine then!

I've not done Bristol before. August and early September could be absolute carnage. Is the bank holiday not the weekend before Brentford or am I all over the place with dates?

  9. You're all bloody lying.

If you were past caring why the hell would you be on here waiting for news/views of the club. You wouldn't.

Face it, you all care still. You all still love the club and want to know what is happening/going to happen.

    (NB. And the manager therefore)

I would disagree. I am past caring yet am on here. I'm not just past caring for this season but have lost lots of motivation for next. I need a break from football as I have no hunger anymore. For most of this season I have attended out of duty and not out of desire or enjoyment. The couple of hours I spend in the pub with the OASIS lads before games and after are the highlight of a day watching Latics. It's a good reason to go to the game and is less so these days about a love for the club. For the first time in 20 years I am highly unlikely to renew my Season Ticket despite living 200 miles away for the last two years. It's not a good state of affairs.

There's my initial rant about why I am past caring for the time being. I am still here though, looking at the news out of a long standing affection for this club. I am definitely past caring about the will he wont he rumour mungering about Royle though. One day he is signing, the next he isnt. He is one of the main reason I support Latics. I was only small when he was first in charge. However, I dont think he should be our manager anymore. I also dont care what the rumour mill says. We will find out in good time. These "exclusives" are dull. They may be correct, they may not be. Frankly we will know when the club and he think it is right to make and announce the decision.

  10. This man is one of the main reasons I love this club so much. Started watching in 88/89 season a young age of 3. To have the formative years in football under that team makes me positive today. He proved, we can live the dream. Maybe, just maybe, we can live it again and ensure he has a fantastic 12 game swansong!!!

I'm gutted I'll miss his homecoming but I will be there at Leyton with bells on. I'll be like a big kid that day (bigger than normal anyway!!!)

  11. They'll be the ones looking at me like I shouting Aryan songs out with my Zigga Zagga (I'm sure someone will fill you in about stewards always thinking I'm a nazi )

Didnt this happen once, and in Yorkshire of all places ;-)

I need to remember my out of date student card. Still works a treat. Hopefully the run will continue this weekend :-)

  12. Okay. I accept that all the old moaners in the Main Stand are moaning more loudly than they were doing thirty and forty years ago due to the advent of the internet, and that the players are responding more negatively than George McVitie and Maurice Whittle might have done.

Again... taking a post and making something out of it that wasnt there. What happened to good and reasoned debate. It seems to have died a sorry death in some places.

  13. Perhaps it would be better all round, and not just for football, if people withdrew all views and opinions from the public sphere.

Perhaps in future you could read what you are responding to before you post. However, it is always fun when people use that line. It tends to be used when people cannot reason their opinion or are unsure of the way forward in a debate (which requires two opposing opinions - thats why it is so great!!!).

In no way did I say or imply that. I merely suggested that an opinion on here, with modern communication, influences more people than it would have done before the medium existed. You never know though, all those technology gurus and people may be wrong. The internet is not a place where information gets shared more readily and more widely. Alas, the information revolution is over. What, with this and the potential collapse of manufacturing, we best start divvying up the land again and starting fromm scratch. All hail feudalism!!

(Sorry did I go a bit far and take your comment and make something out that wasnt there? I'm not sure where I have seen that before....)

  14. So what was behind all the moans and groans heard inside BP (and every other football ground) in the decades before the internet existed?

We shouldn't overestimate the influence of boards like this. Half of what goes on them is barely even readable.

I am not saying that messageboards like this are the sole reason. However, the more people moan, the more negative people attitudes and behaviours become. The extrapolation of this is the way most people behave at BP... on the edge of their seat waiting for the first mistake. I appreciate it is a two way thing... of course it is. However, even though we are still top 6 (and let us not forget that) people are going to BP with the mentality of supporting a team who have been cut adrift at the bottom of the league.

As a final point, the only reason I pick on a message board like this is because it is the modern medium of communication. Picking on the site and saying "It didnt exist two years ago and so what happened before then" is, in my opinion, a weak argument. People still communicated just in different ways. In addition, it was difficult to reach out to such a wide group of Oldham fans and have views perpetuate themselves. Therefore, one persons opinion, when well argued, can influence a wider group of people. The negative messaging on here impacts way more people than it will have done previously. Previously, we would probably influence the opinion of a few friends, the pub landlord and anyone who could hear. This takes longer than someone putting their opinion on here. That is why, I believe, a messageboard like this, and the amount of negativity on it, can be very detrimental to the attitude of supporters and their behaviour at matches. This then manifests itself in moans, groans and poor team performances.

  15. In what way does what gets discussed on here affect the team? As Sheridan has admitted, the players don't even do what he wants, never mind take any notice of us.

Through the negativity it perpetuates in the fans that manifests itself with the moans and groans inside BP. Having had the pleasure of being at BP twice in the last week, it was hard work. That wasnt because of the garbage on the pitch but the atmosphere. We lost 5-0 at Hereford this year but as a day out and sing song it was one of the better days.

  16. No, I wouldn't take that. Put Scunny in our place and that's the best 6 in this division.

7 and a half league games in and we were flying high, we've been pish since, and only risen to the big teams.

Without wanting to point out the blindingly obvious (as it is in big letters at the bottom of your post) but you have reduced the number of points we will be out of the play-offs by 1. Apparently we will now be 2 points out of the play-offs at 1700 on Sat. Interesting... most people after they make wild predictions, learn their lesson and back down. You are just changing yours. If we win on Sat and Scunny lose, what will be your next prediction ;-)

Even if they win their game in hand, we are so tight with Scunny that over 36 games, there is little to choose between us. What people forget is that, whilst we have been poor for a while now, the points we have gained are over 36 games. Therefore, whilst there have been up to 10 really bad performances, there must have been up to 10 really good performances to make up for it. But hey ho, lets forget about those as they came earlier on and clearly dont count towards out performance OVERALL this season.

People on this board really need to gain a little perspective. All this in fighting and criticising of the management is in no way going to help our cause, merely perpetuate it. Let's get behind the team. There are 10 games left. If we fail (which I dont believe we will) then air your grievances at the end of the season when the inquest should begin... not now.

    Rant over
