  1. It's not beyond the realms of possibility. We definitely need one because Brill is cack and, in my opinion, Fleming isn't much better.

I got told today we are signing Gerard Wiekens and Andy Morrison in a double swoop. Not going to name who told me, but it was a ginger winger for us who started on the right, then moved to the left under Sheridan and had his problems with injury last season.

my opinion is that you make up a lot of rumors. was it you who the other day said that you had spoken to a latics player and they had told you that paul dickov would not be our new manager?

  2. So, we have learned from the new manager thread that he is going down to boundary park tomorrow morning at 9:00am to see the new manager. please could someone go along and get a photo of the man (Royle Army, that is and not the new manager) so that we can see what the man, the myth, the legend actually looks like.. or really, just proof of his existence.

  3. I am hearing, from a number of sources, that, sensationally, the real reason dave penney has left is because he has been lined up to head the labour government from tomorrow onwards. I heard that they are certainties to win, and there could be truth in the matter. Dave Penney used to be a bricklayer, which must surely mean his allegiances lie with the labour party? I'm somewhat sceptical myself but many others are not. You heard it here first

  4. Reading the fishal and the rarely-wrong, it's pretty obvious that DP actually EXPECTS to be here next season. Has he got some cast iron guarantee or is it wishful thinking on his part?

If the former, the TTA must get ready for the lowest crowds ever recorded and another season of the most dire football it has ever been my misfortune to watch led by a man who is tactically brainless, shows absolutely no interest in what's going on (*see below) and doesn't give a toss about the supporters. Like OutOfTheBlue has already said, only Wadsworth has got anywhere near the level of total incompetence that Penney has achieved.

If the latter, sorry to disappoint you David old chap, but if TTA have got any business acumen at all, they will see that keeping a dunce like you on the books is going to hit their pockets very hard indeed. On the other hand, I sometimes wonder if you don't really want to be at BP after all and, by totally screwing up the job (which most fans would jump at the chance of for a fraction of what you're earning), TTA might say "Thank you David and goodbye. Oh and by the way, he's a nice few spondoolies for your retirement. Enjoy."

I have already said on more than one thread that I have never, in all my years of being a Tic, felt so let down, disheartened, disillusioned, angry and totally pissed off that I don't care whether I get to a match or not. If I make it - great and I'll have a day out with people I regards as friends. If I don't make it - never mind, I can listen to Player or do other things and save wasting hard earned cash on train fares / petrol / admission money / programme / food etc, etc, etc.

As a team, we may not be far short of a decent side. Ship out the deadwood (I don't need to list them here, it's been done to death), bring in maybe only a CB, GK and striker, find the Taylor of yesteryear, find out if Purdie really exists and bring in a manager who is passionate, recognises the fans and wants to play a more adventurous style of football and we could just have a pretty good season.

    * What did it for me on Saturday was seeing us in the opposition box in the 1st half with David bloody sodding Penney ambling down his technical area with his back to play, hands in pockets looking at the feckin' ground! If we'd managed to score, he wouldn't have had a sodding clue who or how. Do us a favour DP. Do the honourable thing, admit that you're crap, apologise to the fans and bugger off.

    I couldn't agree more here

  5. As recent results, with the exception of yeovil last saturday, have improved, do people still think that dave penney will leave at the end of the season? Have those recent results changed anyone's opinion on him?

My personal view is that I still want him to leave. The thought of another season with a manager who sets his teams up not to lose rather than win, and with many players who are not good enough to play in league 1, is completely uninspiring. I am only 19 but I can't remember a worse latics team, and supporting the club this season has been a chore rather than a hobby. I can no longer find anything to be proud of with latics, and being honest, I am losing my enthusiasm like I once never thought I would.

  6. You need only to remember this.

In the first ever campaign of the Premier League (1992-93), Oldham Athletic earned 49 points from 42 fixtures to stay up by the smallest of margins. With 3 matches remaining, the Latics had attained 40 points and looked doomed, lying second from bottom in the table. For the club to survive relegation, three wins from their final three matches were required, and the Latics had to bank on Crystal Palace gaining no more than one point from their final two matches.

Oldham's first game of the final trio was away at second placed Aston Villa - a side who had  to win to have any hope of winning that year's title. In a battling display, Latics stalwart  Nick Henry scored the winner midway through the first half, a shock result but one that gave hope to an unlikely escape and clinched the first title for 27 years for Manchester United.

Three days later Liverpool were beaten 3-2 at Boundary Park, whilst Crystal Palace could only draw at Manchester City. This led to a scenario by which for Oldham to survive, they had to beat fellow strugglers Southampton at home and hope that Crystal Palace were defeated at Arsenal's Highbury ground. Oldham eventually won 4-3 despite ahead 4-1 at one point, whilst Palace lost 2-0 at Arsenal, meaning that the Eagles were demoted on goal difference.

Incredible - I also recall that Matt Le Tissier scored a hat trick for Southampton and still ended up on the losing side!

typical latics fan stuck in the past. move on.

  7. Scotty boy you seem to have a problem with my posts. Care to sort it out and maybe clear up your obsession?.

Anyway, update on the thread, Second half at Stockport a clear visable tear appeared in Taylor's eye as he got sand in his graze.

the nature of your initial post is laughable. as is the one i am replying to here. anyone who thinks chris taylor is not a good player lacks a knowledge of football

  8. I'm fed up with all this jumping on the Penney's rubbish bandwagon.

It's so easy to critcise when your not doing the job, some people must have very inflated ideas of there own abilities to be knocking Penney at every opportunity. I'm especially peed off with the negative comments that are made in the online Chron, after every Latics article it's Penneys rubbish, get rid. Always the same posters and one of them has even created 2 usernames, singaporesummat and owdamfan, so that he can agree with himself on how bad Penney is!

He's our manager and here for at least another season, leave the guy to get on with his job.

Changing managers every season or 2 will get us nowhere.

haha i cannot believe someone did that, it is like some fans want us to fail

  9. The only booing i heard yesterday was from the RRE when colbeck came on

are you trying to suggest I would make a post like this for no reason? There definitely was booing, where I was sat, in the rochdale road stand some others on this thread have seconded that. So now we can grasp this fact then why don't we discuss why people did it?

  10. Didn't want to mention this on the KA thread so as to detract away from the messages of condolence on there.

BBC Sport's main story at the moment? 'GLAZERS RECEIVE BACKING FROM GILL'. The death of a Football League manager sits on the side of the page. Appalling. Reminds me of when Marc-Vivien Foe died at the Confederations Cup, back when Ceefax was still widely uses and when I went on the BBC's North-West page, their headline was something along the lines of 'QUIEROZ BACKS RONALDO TO PERFORM', whilst 'MAN CITY MIDFIELDER DIES DURING MATCH' was a back-up story.

I know most United fans haven't heard of Keith Alexander, but for the BBC to pander to them really winds me up.

    Rant over.

i agree entirely, that is morally incorrect

  11. Agreed, Penneys attitude has me baffled so far this season, the body language of the hand in pocket 90% of the time and that annoying smirk at everything. It sometimes just seems to be a big jolly up to him and his boys on the touchline. Definately no rapport with the fans for me which is certainly something which he needs to improve on. If he doesn't agree with the stick he is getting why not issue a statement like the one above rather than his stubborn 'I don't give a monkeys' quote.

I don't care what he does to get the results but lets not be a child about it eh!

Also why i'm on a rant I am sick of Czukman wearing those bleeding tights, just stick some trakkie bottoms on instead of looking like an overgrown ballerina!

another part to add to this would be the length of his programme notes. there are significantly less than when john sheridan was manager, and to be honest, i used to enjoy them as the main part of the programme.

  12. £58.75... Wednesday night... I can see that having a massive take up... Not....

being honest, this evening is shameful and embarrassing anyway. i just cannot understand why we are having an evening to celebrate being runners up in the league cup final 20 years ago. this is nothing to really be happy about, and for me, it just shows how small minded latics are. this lack of ambition which the evening represents could be one of the reasons why we are playing in league 1. it was 20 years ago too, why do we have to live in the past? i'm going to avoid telling my mates who support other clubs about this evening, for fear of absolute ridicule. it is pathetic

  13. I mentioned once about the lack of marketing outside Oldham, but I got back to Glossop on Friday opened the local paper at the back pages to see a big Latics advertisment, I'm guessing it's in the Tameside Advertiser aswell as they are practically the same paper

marketing in glossop is a pointless idea. there aren't enough people.
