  1. I think if you look across football there will be a huge number of players who never kick on from playing reserve level football, because it is no substitute for the real thing. You talk about players "learning their trade", but how are they going to learn it in reserve team football if they haven't learnt it by their early twenties? Guys like Chris Hall, Matty Barlow and all the rest of them are perfect examples - whereas look at Tierney who is now a regular League 1 left-back through playing regularly.

You're kidding yourself if you think that guys like Black will come on as well through the reserves - if the lad is good enough to make it then he's good enough to be played now, or at least to be part of a squad with a realistic chance of playing. I'm not saying that these lads have to be first-team regulars, but if lads like Wolfenden, O'Grady, Alessandra, Black, Lomax and Stephens are not making a dozen or more starts in all comps across the next season then they are a waste of time.

As I say, if that is the case then I'll not argue, but you are wasting money if you keep them there ad infinitum.

Where exactly do you want these 6 players to play? Taking out the centre-half, striker and left-back that I assume we need; where are the other 3 guys going to fit in?

Talk about getting 2 strikers in, then where does Brooke go to play when O'Grady and Alessandra are the starting pair for the reserves? Where does Eaves get his first tastes of senior football?

Sorry, but 6 players is too many and you're putting too much faith in the reserves as the cure of our ills. Last year was not a mess because of the lack of a reserve team, although I'll agree that it didn't help.

you give the example of one player and players shouldnt play if they arent good enough

  2. What you are? ha ha ha ha ha. How odd you dont like me view on :censored: Kilkenny yet I've to respect yours. Creepy you are funny ha ha h ha. Try laugin too, with me

And still not told me what type of fan I am. I think I can safely say it's all bull :censored: sir. I've gave you chance.

PS: It's bottle time, I am ready for bed!! ha ha ha ha

this also shows my point and i think you really should be more mature than this

  3. Hold your coat a second brother. Do you not think pictures can be removed as well as added? in case of confussion I'll tell you the answer, yes.

Also every week virtually new pictures of Lewi with bottles of booze have been posted up on facebook all season long. Fact. Oh and just to further instill you with facebook knowledge, when Lewi's drinking buddies tag him in one picture, the whole album becomes available even if the said person to whom the album belongs as a private profile status. Don't tell me these pitures have not existed over the entire season if you've not seen them. I along with others have.

the player who said latics fans take latics too seriously are right and this is shown by this thread and your comments

  4. I can see it now, certain members of this board handing out the hymm sheets. The polietest of youngsters will take said hymm sheet with a thank you, and not use it. The rest well they will either use the sheets as paper airplanes to chuck and each other/ the opposition or deliberately sing the wrong song at the time. Football chants are quite often spontaneous in nature and don't always work from one week to the next (case in point the great escape at huddersfield which was good but failed the week after). As to singing a particular song on 74 minutes, is this something to do with a requisit ad break in the US?

i agree tho its a positive idea

  5. Hi all, I have shortened down the DVD from the 2004 Fans Fixture into a highlights video on YouTube!

Anyone on here play? I was the number 4, centre mid for the blues, Dave Mathieson.

This has got me thinking, this was much better than the Fans v Staff fixture. Everything about this was perfect. No subs meant you played 90 mins, DVD release with commentary, pie supper in the Players Lounge, names read out on the tannoy of the line-ups and scorers. I would have played in the staff matches since, but the idea I could play £200+ and get subbed off wasn't appealing! And basically it was always going to end in a big defeat for the fans.

After this years cancellation of the staff match, does anyone think it would be better to do it this way again? Anyone have any contacts to make it happen? They could do it with the original format, but instead of bidding for numbers, you could bid for a position and choose your number. Maybe a bid for 2 keepers, 2 right backs, 4 centre backs etc, so that the highest bidder wins. Highest bidders play home, next play away. For example in 2004, a striker for the home team paid £300, but away £200, and there might have been a bidder for £240 for the home team that missed out, losing the club money!

Here is the match report too!

    Fans Fixture 2004 Match Report

Home team managed by Sean Jarvis, Away team by Gordon Lawton. Final score, Home 6-4 Away. 10th May 2004. Commentary by Dan Shaw. Cameras, production & artwork by Tom Llewellyn. www.tomllewellyn.com

    do you have 2004/5...?

  6. Both times he has returned to Boundary Park he has been head and shoulders above anything on the field. Yes, I found him to be a big lazy turd when he was here but given the amount of high-profile strikers that have failed here over the last 2 years is it all the players fault or Sheridan's tactics and the crap service from an inadequate midfield?

i dont think the midfield was inadequate cause of neil kilkenny

  7. Joe actually acheived a lot. The play off's were lost along with the form and fitness of the squad a long time prior to Joe. He has managed to clear out the decks and Dave Penney as got a great empty base on which to build his team, playing his way to jump straight out the blocks. I think he's also helped Corney refresh his approach, I think he too had slacked a bit in what was needed from him. Got himself rapped up in the professional big time player syndrome and enjoyed it too much swept along with the slack Sheridan regime.

Royle as yet again shown his affection for the club and conducted himself fantastically well, like the ambassador he is for this club.

i agree with these points but it really cannot be said that he achieved a lot

  8. Oldham Athletic are asking all supporters to keep off the pitch following the final home game of the season against Southend United on Saturday.

A club spokesman said: "We would urge all fans to refrain from entering the playing area on the full-time whistle on Saturday.

    No Danger there..

    Please stay off the Pitch

i dont understand why anyone would want to go on the pitch to celebrate cus there is nothing to celebrate

  9. I almost felt like going out in the middle of the street waving my latics flag after reading that

i hope i can see like this after some time but right now, and i guess, like a good number of latics fans, i think its going to take time cause whats happened this season really hurts

  10. Oops-a-daisy...

haha all players are entitled to an opinion and from what i understand, the supporters that criticise too much and too irrationally aren't thought of as real fans of latics by the players and i agree. also, i think the supporters who do this shouldn't come to latics as they are little help

  11. I dont consider myself a customer... but the players should have some bloody respect that we pay towards their wages and we expect them to the game seriously!!!

pah...going to stop speaking to you...I get the feeling your just some sort of troll...

haha you come across as posessing some pathetic characteristics

the players do have respect that we pay towards their wages and they do take the game seriously. I guess you dont know much about football if you think otherwise
