  1. Perhaps better on the pitch, as TTA might still be here and the boost of a new stadium does exist, but long-term City have become better (and would be nearer), and FC United would be providing cheap football on your doorstep, plus losing those supporters who wouldn't be able to make it there easily.

Yes, It would have been like opening a Corner shop next to a Megastore and an Aldi,Business Suicide. Would rather we moved to Ashton than down there

  2. Had supported them for 20 years before that and seen steady progress. The thing that Surprised me most about the great team from 89-91 was that all the players who came from Leeds and City reserves all came here for more money! Hope I am wrong but thats the main reason I cant see it happening again in my lifetime, these kids languishing in the stiffs at big Clubs now are on ridiculous wages.

  3. With 6 home games played we're averaging 3131 which isn't bad in our 3rd season in the conference north, especially when you consider the visiting support is often around a dozen. Whether or not your crowds would hold up as well is something I hope you never have to find out.

Good to hear China, and good to see Flynnie involved. Think I last saw you up here when our mutual friend Mr.Wright was over from Bradford.

  4. A season that had lots of fans interested for the first time in a while is now one that we can't wait to end. Let's not pretend we were the likes of Crawley. We were genuinely challenging until our manager went after pastures new and the board subsequently gave up.

BP is going to be awfully empty with the extra 3000 seats...

I thought, and still think, things all started going Pear shaped when we went out of the FA Cup and Corney went public about how much of a disaster it was, resulting in 2 good loan players going back to their Clubs, one who wasnt even wanted at his respective Club yet wanted to stay here, the other who is playing a big part in Prestons promotion push.

  5. They definitely have the potential, local their is the Man U connection, they have a deluded sense of their own importance. Part of me still believes they will plateau at a certain level like Afc Wimbledon but will see.

I seriously dislike FCUM fans, they went from supporting a side who are used to being big fish in a little pond to another side who are now, yes, youve got it!

  6. I happened to be driving through the area when Johnson and the Barnsley CEO (Mansford) were doing a phone in on Radio Sheffield one night last week.

When asked why he chose to leave Oldham to come to Barnsley his initial anwser was quite surprising. Before going on to the usual bigger club, bigger budget stuff, he said something along the lines of 'you have to remember that Oldham accepted a financial offer for me and without that it wouldn't have been possible for me to be here'.

May be it was a case of him thinking that if we weren't going to put up a fight to keep him and reject their approach out of hand, like Swindon did, he may as well go.

There were faew other intersting things on that show. When a caller askted Mansford if Johnson was the first choice for the job, he side stepped the question in a way that made it very cear that he wasn't. He was also pretty frank about saying that if they don't go up this year, Johnson will be expected to deliver promotion next year.

In general, Johnson didn't come across as particularly confident or upbeat in comparison to the interviews he did when he was with us. I think he realises that, if they don't go up this year and he has a bad start to next season he'll be under serious pressure. Consecutive 4-0 and 7-0 defeats won't be met with the kind of tolerance and patience he enjoyed here.

Off what I saw of them yesterday, that wont be long, very few players looked comfortable on the ball

  7. Crawley have recently brought in Mathias Pogba and Anthony Wordsworth, Notts County have brought in Paddy McCourt, Doncaster and JCH, Crewe and Ikpeazu, Nick Proschwitz to Coventry, Alnwick to Bradford.

Proven good players in this league going to teams that are mostly below us and will probably have similar budgets. I respect we did fantastically in January to retain our best players did but those around us are overtaking us now while we languish with an injured and depleted squad. It feels as though we've given up.

We DID NOT retain our best players,we let Daniel Johnson (not as good as Philliskirk some said, tee hee) and Jabo go back to their clubs, they where 2 of the best players, and yes,I know Jabo is a horses for courses player

  8. bates and the then oldham team went to rhodesia and blatantly ignored the calls for them to stop....and helped to give legitimacy to the rf smith regime.what a pack of :censored:

i dont think your average 60s Footballer would have had much idea what was going on in Rhodesia, the world is a lot smaller these days.On saying that, bet your average Footballer still hasnt much idea whats going on away from his favorite bar!

  9. It was Norman Holden I think.

It was Norman Holden, he had agreed to fund the transfer of David Batty from Leeds but some old farts on the board said it wasnt right that he would get a share of the profits if we sold him on! He also funded Mickey Quinn and Neil Adams transfers.

Good bloke Norman, also put money in at Sheddings and Oldham Cricket, both did well out of his funding too.
