  1. RON FUTCHER

Went down in my estimation when he spat in a players face,Big Joe wasnt right impressed either as he never played him again and swapped him for Ormonroyd!

Darren McD was a tough lad on the field but pushed it a bit far in Scandals one night with Mick Townhill, one of the local bouncers, Second prize that night although I remember him decking Brightons Mr Headband Steve Foster one game.

I believe the hardest players are the ones who could take the knocks as much as give it out,Mark Ward and Dennis Irwin spring to mind as do Yard dogs Milligan and Henry.

  2. Stainrod is one of my all time favourite Latics players, very skillful and a great entertainer, not far behind Ritchie for me.

Funnily enough when the Guardsmens Band came on at half time yesterday they started with "Men of Harlech" which in Stainrods era became "Men of Boundary Park are Roaring, Simon Stainrods always scoring.." which set me and mate reminiscing about some of his goals.

  3. He lived around the corner from me in Milnrow and often used to come out and have a kick around with us on the field near his house. Top bloke.

Now lives in the South of France, when we played Leeds last year my Mate was having a business lunch in Paris with him and my mate rang me at the match and put the great man on for a brief chat ,still got a broad Sheffield accent, still a character by all accounts.

Up there with Grovesie,Ritchie, Eyrsie in Legend Status!

  4. not head about that one...did hear about the one that a Mr Spiers (I think) was trying to arrange but somehow, got overshadowed by this one the club has done instead.

So at this rate, its going to be me, tangerine dreams, Mr JR and a couple of latics players, a large screen and geat latics moments..hmmmm...this could get messy..

Carl sacked it after hearing about the Club riding roughshod over his proposed event.

  5. Jason Kennedy? I thought it came out we didn't want him. (Unless we were saving face!)

Didn't we also have Will Buckley and released him?

yes,and Hegginbottom. I thought Kennedy was the first player we offered a contract to,albeit not long enough, hardly the sign of a player we didnt want. Sour Grapes having been pipped by a smaller but seemingly more dynamic Club.

  6. United at home was around 81, remember I had my "Flicker" haircut then, Strachan got a lot of stick from the Chaddy but had a good laugh about it. Remember Brotherstone (RIP) getting a similiar amount of stick "Slap his head,Slap his head..." and he absolutely ran us ragged in the days when we rarely lost at home. Bogey team Blackburn won 3-0.

  7. Reasonable player- better than what we have bar Pawel probably. Think I may prefer Heff but 8 goals in half a season (his form from a previous year) would do for me.

Having said that it could be another one of those players who because is a PLC youth product is rated by a disproportionate number of posters on here despite being not that good.

Always played well against us,Ritchie seemed to rate him, thats good enough for me.

  8. Received this message from Carl Spiers today... Littlewoods 20 Year aniversary fundraiser....

Latics have snatched this event from me ! after a few months of me doing groundwork, including booking Joe Royle etc, the club have now informed me they intend to do the same event, the night before and have secured all the ex players, the long and short of it is I have been bullied out of this event, typical, at a time when Latics should be building bridges for their fans who no longer attend, they have stole all my ideas and format, we were gonna raise money for Simon Bossuns new wheelchair, doubt very much Latics will be too concerned about Simon, all I can do is apologise,

  9. MMM, Me and my mate in same boat, and he has been to Charlton, Gillingham and the like THIS season. as somebody said earlier we never used to go into games against higher placed opposition treating them like Real Madrid,in fact over the biggest part of the Royle and Frizzell eras we beat all the top teams in our division at some stage (OK Villa 0-6 at home-you do get the odd exception!).

I probably know a lot of the 35 year plus Guys who have posted, I would never have dreamt 12 months ago that they would ever be feeling like this!

  10. If he got subbed tonight i would of given him a standing ovation, absolutely controlled the game start to finish.

Just shows what we are missing, played some amazing balls and worked is socks off!

Loved him when he was here and dont blame him for going to Leeds.

    Quality player.

Just said it on another post, the lad runs the show for Leeds, you could see that in the last match and on Sundays televised game.

Looking forward to seeing him play in the world cup next year.

  11. I'd agree with this. You just seem to hear the big I am, can't be arsed stories a fair bit. I would be surprised if Sheridan's "if only the other youngsters tried as hard as Taylor" wasn't directed at him.

Having said that, hopefully Chester will be the boot up the arse he needs to start getting his head down when he returns, as he has obvious talent.

Far better player than Smalley, good feet, good brain for the game.Hat rick against a promoted team.

  12. Whether the last three teams we've played have larger budgets or not, it's largely immaterial. In all of these games we've been very poor.

Yes, we've had chronic injury problems all season, but even the teams that have been put out don't seem to be giving much at all. Tonight for example, we sat soooo deep it was unbelievable - we'd surrendered the midfield from the first minute. Kilkenny had a field day.

We didn't actually look too bad at the back. Flahaven hardly had a save to make and couldn't do anything about the first goal - didn't even see the second, so I can't comment. Greegs and Rubes seemed solid enough.

The midfield was pretty non existent though. Furman had a poor game, as did :censored: (who's been otherwise pretty consistent recently). Joe Colbeck? Don't even get me started. If he's a professional footballer then I'm Ronal:censored:ingdinho. A criminal waste of a transfer fee - Bradford must be laughing their bollocks off.

Chris Taylor was our only real threat tonight - creative and eager, he actually wanted to go at them, and he carved them open on a few occasions.

Parker was a complete waste of time. Ryan Brooke offered more in his first 30 seconds than Parker did the entire game.

On the whole, we looked like the away side we were that deep. Too many aimless long balls because of it. Can't remember seeing a Latics side that toothless.

We're in for a bumpy ride this season. And I fear it's only going to get bumpier.

    A very depressing day.

Ditto to all you have said, Brooke should have been on half an hour earlier IMO. Parker needs to start running at the box,he will never look like scoring but might get us the odd penalty now and then.Toothless sums it up completely.
