  1. It sounds ridiculous......but the PNE game was also in the cricket season.

We have an awful lot of local league players / committee members (and children) who are heavily involved in many of the local leagues. Certainly enough that considering our small support, it could amount to 10/15% of our travelling following at that stage of the season.

Cricket Season and School Holidays.Youre right about the Cricket, most away matches see lots of players and officials from Royton, Crompton, Shaw,Werneth, Austerlands, Glodwick, Heyside (take a mini bus) and Moorside

  2. I believe latics dont make anything on the extra revenue that is taken at the refreshments area. This is a real downer on the cheap promotion games because that is one area where people do spend cash that would make it easier to offer more discount tickets. Saying after today its hard to see many wanting to return cheap ticket or not.

Ran out in the Chaddy after half an hour,no food left. This does make us look clueless!

  3.

Fair enough, but don't you think the club needs a kit which everyone can identify with instead of copying common designs?

It was actually that kit which drew me to the club as a kid back in the late 1950s, I thought the kit was different to any others (well maybe apart from Ajax's red) and I had a found team with some uniqueness.

    The Latics 1962 kit is mentioned here as one of the classic designs;

Quote:"this remains the definitive Oldham kit".

What about the Carlisle 74 one but with Tangerine instead of Red separating the white/blue?

  4. Mrs. S. and I were both born at Boundary Park Hospital, and it makes us even more proud to know that the delivery room has a view of part of the pitch. :D

It was surreal, I had only been in the room about 30 seconds if that when he scored,I was waiting for my wife to come round and daughter to be transferred to special care. Seemed like slow motion but it was a lot quicker when I saw the replay,I must have been in shock with her being 10 week early!

  5. First game took my lad to was Blackpool at home (2000) Which sent them down to the bottom division. He was 3 at the time,we went straight to the game that day from Special care baby unit where my 5 week old daughter was on her fifth week of seven.

He did Something that day that I hadn't done in the previous 30 years supporting the Club,he asked to go for a dump with 5 minutes to go! Went to the bogs, heard a big cheer, only goal of the game!!! Thanks son! Yes,hes still going.

Ironically.with my daughter being on Special care I had missed a few games, the last goal I saw that season was the day she was born, Andy Holt v Cambridge, saw it from Delivery room 9 as a nurse had just tipped me off that I could see a third of the pitch from there!

  6. Lee - I`m afraid you'll have to have it - because it's true ! At times, we've had truly awful support - even Man City away (again in the 80s) - I remember we were in the small bit of the Kippax - probably only took about 600 that day - to City (unthinkable now I know).

Sunderland away in the FA cup - (70s) - one Latics fan ran onto pitch and planted a balloon in the centre circle - weren't many at Roker Park at all. Away matches didn't seem to be the 'big deal' they were nowadays. Times change.

Apart from Hull,York and Notts County that is, always took loads whenever we played them

  7. Without a doubt, what I found strange was our insistance in playing it out they had 3 or 4 men pressing as a unit, reverting to the good old lump up the field may have made them think twice, they certainly wouldnt of had the legs if we had mixed it up a little.

I agree, well and truly " did a job on us",like Dickov last week, like Ronnie Mooore had a habit of doing on us as well.

  8.

Mind games, too much of that goes on these days frightened of letting the position know your team.

Reminds me of the great Tales about Shankly discussing the oppositions weaknesses before big games, had his players convinced world beaters where just mere Pub players.Think Johnson senior must have done the same yesterday, then our lot went and helped them believe it
