  1. OK, so who's to blame? - TTA (Who have saved the club from going bust and, in my opinion, are trying to move the club forward)? - Dave Penny (who has been given next to no time to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear)? - The players (who have had very little time to settle)?
  2. Yeah, it only takes 6 games to gell a team. Penny's replacement (who will be in around Xmas apparently), how long will you give him??
  3. The question was aimed at him, mate. Just interested in the rationale of the moaners on here - I put it down to attention seeking......... On the other point, seen Brill against Stockport, Orient and Brentford and he's been solid in all of them.
  4. OK, Penny's replacement - How long would you give him to get things right?
  5. Fear the same about the crowd. What was it tonight? 1,600? The lowest gate at Boundary Park I've known while supporting Latics (in a competitive game).
  6. We've got a catchy song for him, which seems to have made him a hit with the fans. Missed a penalty against Millwall and an absolute sitter at Brentford on Saturday, two chances which could have changed the outcome of both games, so the jury's still out for me.
  7. It's midnight, they're standing at a bus stop in the middle of Bermondsey, one of them is holding a video camera/phone, and they survived. Thats the bit I have problems getting my head around......
  8. No, try to avoid a lot of them. Find reading messages slagging players off and saying how quickley we're going to go bust a bit soul destroying!
  9. It might not be the same people but I'd say the amount of people who moan on here is proportionate to the amount that moan at matches (at home games, at least). Regarding re-astablishing itself at a higher level - many teams have gone the full circle (e.g. Forest, Barnsley, QPR) I think we just have to be a bit more patient than their fans because of the lesser resources we have. Regarding being a masochist - again thats supporting Latics! I think the step approach in the only was we can go. Admittedly it's not the most complex masterplan, but I remember Tommy Doherty saying on "Jim and the Doc" (They should bring that back!) that for a football team to be a success, firstly it needs the team, then it needs the stadium, then it needs the support. At the moment we're working on the team, and hopefully the rest will come in due course. I've got to ask and apologies if you've you've mentioned this elsewhere, but why exactly to you watch Latics if it's so unenjoyable?
  10. Because, basically, that is what supporting Latics is all about! I don't think fans like me for example, are particularly happy about our current plight, but enjoy it for what it is. We've been treading water for years, but it makes rare successess even more sweet. Fans have been saying "we'll go bust" for years, but we're still fighting on. The chances are, success isn't waiting round the corner, but no one can say that for sure. For Latics to be sustainable, we need to take it one step at a time, I think starting with supporting the current set-up as best we can. Slating the likes of Parker, Brill, etc means we've fallen at the first hurdle. The Manager's brought in players which he thinks can take us in the right direction, so why not get behind them?
  11. Despite having a cracking selection of pick 'n' mix, I don't think Woolies will ever drum up the passion in people that the 'pinch-me' seasons did, for example....
  12. 100+ years of history and tradition for starters??
  13. I appreciate it's an open forum. I think, however, that many Oldham fans have a habit of going beyond sounding off and end up percecuting players. Eardley had it, and I can see Brill and Parker being in the firing line already just because they've had a bad game.
  14. So when people are shouting abuse at Parker/Brill/Eardley/A N Other target for the moaner, they're really showing ambition?? Surely we would get to these ambitious targets quicker if we offered encouragement to the players that the manager thinks are the best we have to get us to the next level.
  15. Well I think the sentiment is that people have to accept the hand that we've currently been dealt and basically stop moaning unnecessarily.
  16. I think most of us have proved that we are 'real football supporters' already and I want nothing more than Latics to get promoted, etc. I just have issue with the people that moan constantly without any realisation that we are doing as best as we can under the circumstances, which is why I tend to agree with roger_er's point.
  17. Have only seen Stockport and Orient so far, but thought the team as a whole put a shift in in both of those games and couldn't really pick any passengers. Thought Parker might have been a bit short of match fitness which is why he was taken off against Stockport. Was concerned about Brill after pre-season but he looked pretty solid in the two games I've seen and, like you it seems, am willing to reserve judgement for a bit....which I hope others will too!
  18. They are, but can tell the knives are out for Parker and Brill after just one bad game. That's unfair....
  19. Isn't this just what happens when a new management team comes in though? Admittedly Sheridan had the habit of signing players and sending them out on loan, which was a bit odd, and shifting players from club to club is made easier than it used to be because of the Bosman ruling, but at this stage of the season can't we give Dave Penny the benefit of the doubt that he's trying to build a reasonably settled squad and in 6 months time the likes of Abbott, Worthington and Furman might seem more "Oldham".
  20. I'd say the only attitude that is third or fourth rate is that of those "fans" who moan constantly, are never willing to offer support to the club and critisise whenever the club tries to move in a different direction.....
  21. And, after 4 games, have you decided that this squad can't get us out of it?
  22. Not willing to give the season much of a chance to get going then? Poor signings? I agree! How are we ever supposed to compete with Real Madrid if we're not willing to spend £80 million on a player!!
  23. From Euston, Northern Line tube to London Bridge (should take about 20 mins). From London Bridge, train to Charlton (another 20 mins).
