  1. I think most of us have proved that we are 'real football supporters' already and I want nothing more than Latics to get promoted, etc. I just have issue with the people that moan constantly without any realisation that we are doing as best as we can under the circumstances, which is why I tend to agree with roger_er's point.
  2. Have only seen Stockport and Orient so far, but thought the team as a whole put a shift in in both of those games and couldn't really pick any passengers. Thought Parker might have been a bit short of match fitness which is why he was taken off against Stockport. Was concerned about Brill after pre-season but he looked pretty solid in the two games I've seen and, like you it seems, am willing to reserve judgement for a bit....which I hope others will too!
  3. They are, but can tell the knives are out for Parker and Brill after just one bad game. That's unfair....
  4. Isn't this just what happens when a new management team comes in though? Admittedly Sheridan had the habit of signing players and sending them out on loan, which was a bit odd, and shifting players from club to club is made easier than it used to be because of the Bosman ruling, but at this stage of the season can't we give Dave Penny the benefit of the doubt that he's trying to build a reasonably settled squad and in 6 months time the likes of Abbott, Worthington and Furman might seem more "Oldham".
  5. I'd say the only attitude that is third or fourth rate is that of those "fans" who moan constantly, are never willing to offer support to the club and critisise whenever the club tries to move in a different direction.....
  6. And, after 4 games, have you decided that this squad can't get us out of it?
  7. Not willing to give the season much of a chance to get going then? Poor signings? I agree! How are we ever supposed to compete with Real Madrid if we're not willing to spend £80 million on a player!!
  8. From Euston, Northern Line tube to London Bridge (should take about 20 mins). From London Bridge, train to Charlton (another 20 mins).
  9. There's mistakes and there's mistakes, though. A manager or a player doing what he thinks is best and being wrong, is different to the result of a match being incorrect because a legitimate goal has been scored and not counted. To stop incidents happening like the one at Ashton Gate happening again, I'm all for technology, when it comes to whether a goal has gone in or not. TV replays would slow the game down - a sensor should be the way forward.
  10. Agreed! Thought both this and the Abbott song were quite clever.....
  11. It was rocking actually....thanks for asking. Anyway, it's quality not quantity........a phrase never better suited when comparing Oldham fans to Leeds fans.
  12. Dominican Republic! Was on holiday for the first game of the season of the 1994/95 season and was desperate to find the result out. Went for a wander in my Oldham top and some bloke came up to me and said "Heard the result? We won 5-2 against Charlton!". Turned out he was from Oldham, a Latics season-ticket holder and Ian Marshall drank in his local!
  13. Not let Mark Hughes score that volley at Wembley, during our Prem days!!! Following relegation, I'm not sure. I think the appointment of Sharp after Royle left was a crucial mistake. On the financial front, we were really unlucky to get relegated when we did. Say we'd had our three years in the top flight three years later, we would have got a lot more money from Sky, etc meaning we may have had a better opportunity to bounce back we went down.
  14. Blimey! If there's something to moan about you can guarentee an Oldham fan will find it! I thought yesterday was a good performance - the kind of game we would have lost one-nil last season. Considering they had never really played properly together, I thought they did well and were only denied by a blatant penalty that wasn't given, a couple of excellent saves by the 'keeper and desperate defending. Gregan deservedly got man of the match (but as been mentioned elsewhere, might be exposed against a better attack) Worthington and Furman also looked lively. Not sure where this came from about the forwards being lazy - I thought Abbott, Parker and Byfield did a lot of chasing. Byfield looked a different player from last year - if he puts the graft in like he did yesterday, I can see him scoring a few this season. Before the game yesterday, really didn't know what to expect. The last time we had such a change in personnel in the close season was before we played Swansea on the first day a couple of years ago - now that was a disjointed performance by a team waiting to gel, and I thought it might be a similar case yesterday. However, as it turns out, I thought we were a lot closer to being the finished article this time around.
  15. Didn't we get quite a good deal from Newcastle for Carl Serrant? About £600k I think, with him about to go abroad for nothing.
  16. You're right we're not - but if I remember rightly Moore turned from hero to villain very quickly. With all the work and effort the TTA have put in I think we can safely say it's a completely different scenario. Even so, the fans deserve to have a look at the long-term plan.
  17. and I've never even been there......I really do feel like a winner.
  18. Hmmmmm.....that could work for next season. The season after though, we'd need to win the League, thanks to a last-minute penalty, given away by a stern-faced Mancunian..........who in 15 years time we'll make manager......or maybe not.
  19. "You Stole the Sun" - Is that a cover of the Manics song? Tip of the hat to them on two fronts if so!
  20. The problem with big clubs coming down is that they are all probably going to finish in the top 6. Stick Leeds in there as well and thats four of the top six taken aleady, leaving the rest to scrap for the other two spots. I'd settle for mid-table for Latics this season - Penny will need a year to put his stamp on the team and they'll also they'll need a bit of time to gel.
