I believe Huddersfield disbanded many of their age groups/youth teams a year or two ago for similar reasons to the ones you muse about above.

If it was part of a - dare I say it - a Plan or Strategy, to do as you describe and pick up all the Premier League Academy cast offs, then - regardless of whether I like it or not - I could at least understand it.

However, if it's a vehicle to have a team full of Urko Vera's..... then they can fook right off.

If it's an opportunity to bring in late teen talent rather players at the end of their career then it's a "guarded" consideration. The only problem I can see is that of work permits. If free movement ends with Brexit then we may not be able to tap into the French market.

We've struggled in the distant past when obscure internationals have rocked up for trials as per Keith Gumbs of St. Kitts.

I've never quite worked out how big clubs circumvent the rules.

On Mohamed Lemsagam's appointment as Sporting Director? .....from what I hear, he's close to completing his coaching badges and could very well end up being Head Coach before too long.

To be fair, I know none of his other relevant life experience / qualifications to pass much judgement on him. Merely a loose rumour - that I've largely disregarded - that he was a failed former footballer - possibly in Germany - himself?

In a role as Sporting Director, one assumes he has a big say in who we sign. I've discussed on here plenty of times previously that I think the Lemsagam brother's forays into the foreign player market have been less successful than domestic recruitment over the same time series. Missilou and Gevaro apart, to date I don't think any of them have cut it. In this regard, the Sporting Director and his brother are failing.

Having said that, I have less of an issue with him being appointed Sporting Director in the first place. If this is a model the owner wishes to pursue - whether I like it or not - that's his right as 97% shareholder of the limited company. They'll be judged by the on field success in that regard.

What I do take issue with however, is the insistence they don't try to interfere in team selection when they patently do.... and they are not only lying to us about it, but also the Manager's/Head Coaches that they recruit. That they reportedly pay some of their dross signings well above what we pay our domestic players. That there is suspicion they are signing players that somehow benefit their former Agency - owned by the 3rd brother, Omar. Take Urko Vera as an example. How on earth did he get signed, and on the money he is reportedly on? It smells.

Then there is the rumour that appears to have more grounds, that the youth set up is to be disbanded and replaced by a reserve team made up primarily of foreign imports. Makes me go cold.

....but all of this is less of a concern to me than whether we are going to be able to meet the next Tax bill. The obvious growing list of creditors. The 'poisonous' - to quote Scholes - environment in which the club's employees work. Unpaid Pensions. Because of unpaid rent, the very real chance we could become homeless if the Fan Led Group fail to purchase the land from Blitz/Gazal - because Marco & his brother most certainly can't. Reports that we were the only EFL club not to have a representative at a recent meeting. The general poor governance of the club.

You bring up a lot of good points.

The one area I am unsure about is the youth setup.

I don't recall it being a financial success for a few years but having said that was more to do with Corney taking any offer that landed on his desk which included a near useless sell on clause. I would like to think that AL with his past agent experience would drive a harder bargain than his predecessor should someone come in with an offer for Hamer or Edmundson.

I'm guessing Premiership clubs trawl the junior leagues and clubs like ours for talent to join their massive academies which leaves us with enthusiastic kids who may or may not be a late bloomer.

Should we go down the route of looking at academy cast-offs before they get on a decent wedge...….Gradi and Crewe did that successfully for many years and could work with the right coaching staff which, in itself, is another problem.

The downside of shutting our academy down would be another link to the community severed,

Heart heartache is a physical pain in a vital organ. Latics heartache is a metaphorical malaise that affects your psyche. Symptoms can be: making many irrational choices in the pursuit of Oldham Athletic; false optimism during summer months followed by sudden bouts of realism and despondency. And finally, chatting shit on message boards.

    Talking of sh*t:

Definition of heartache as stated in Oxford Dictionaries -

Emotional anguish or grief, typically caused by the loss or absence of someone loved.

But I still don't know what "Heart heartache" is and by the look of your response, neither do you! But as for Latics heartache....you are bang on the mark.

Think I’ll skip Saturday , don’t think I can handle defeat! I’d like to go, but too used to the heart heartache. I say used to it, not able to take it again!  even if we reach the play offs, all o can recall is miserly qpr and Blackpool! I prey to god, we can do it and then turn  a corner! But I literally can’t handle it !

You'll be there....but what is heart heartache? Not being particularly well up on the body but does the heart have a heart to get heartache....perhaps RudeMedic could advise here unless you are a freak of nature...….that's it....you are a freak of nature, question answered!!!☺️

I know what you are saying. They did effectively cheat and I know fans should perhaps be more live to the massive overspending in good times, but it’s not really the fans fault. I wouldn’t wish the demise of a club on any fan.... except perhaps Man U 😁.

A long, long time ago when the Bear (Darren Beckford) scored the solitary winning goal against them in an FA cup tie at Burnden Park, the Oldham fans were told to stay behind whilst the police could disperse the locals. At 5.30, we boarded our coach with instructions to lie on the floor...….we passed a blue Oldham Transit van, about 200 yards from the ground with a smashed windscreen, and a woman sat on the side of the road with blood pouring from her head, after several Bolton fans "bricked" their van.

Sorry (not really)...…..I can live with verbal abuse but that all changes when verbal changes to physical.

So, in response to the thought of Bolton going under...…...F^CK 'EM!!!

Woudn't they get docked 20 poins if they go into admin. in the summer almost guaranteeing relegation?

I reckon they would get a fine and points deduction if they don't fulfill fixtures as happened to Middlesbrough a few years ago, albeit for different reasons (3 point deduction and a £50k fine).

Apologies, not meant to be insulting.  I can't understand why if Iversen didn't come for crosses during Wild's previous run and didn't while Scholes was there an apparent improvement in that aspect of his game since Wild returned can realistically be down to Wild.

Possibly Iverson was under the GK coach during Bunn's regime and Wilde didn't feel the need to get involved during his first stint but following the Scholes experiment, he may have seen enough and decided to give the whole team a lift.

Also, I'm sure during the Scholes period, PW would have reviewed his own performance and looked at what he could do better.

Because he didn't do so especially when Wild was in charge before?

Sorry but it's a ludicrous conclusion.

You say my comment is ludicrous, I say you've not been watching the games. My comment is just as insulting as yours.

You ask 500 Oldham fans and they don't all have the same opinion on any particular aspect of a game.

The business I am involved in acquired a new majority shareholder three and a half years ago. The directors gave personal Wlwarranties against any nasties that may have come to light. Very general and potentially very onerous but we were confident that nothing would and it didn't.

Quite why anyone would buy a business such a football club without taking similar precautions beats me

We then go back to who would AL have turned to for advice on buying the club in the first instance.

Life and business are not risk free. Deliberately hiding problems would be challenging but there's never a guarantee that everything material will come to light or even be known to the seller in a sale process.

Warranties are not unusual in corporate transactions but certainly not always in place.

I agree with your thoughts on warranties but how would you calculate the risk? And who would pay?

I use them in construction on a project by project basis but that is to indemnify the client should the contractor go under.

I don't think the onus should be on the purchaser but on the accountants to provide one. And how many firms would have that level of confidence in themselves to uncover everything.

I wasn’t there Saturday so I can’t comment on his performance on the day but I’ve seen an improvement in Iversen as the season has progressed. Be good to sign him permanently but I can’t see Leicester allowing that.

Would be good but, as others have said before, he's destined to go out on loan to at least a League One club.

Something other than the full truth?

It happens at all levels of business, ask the board of Hewlett Packard

    So who is to blame?

Is it the purchaser for believing a report put in front of him or the person compiling the report?

  13. Just now, Dave_Og said:

Nope I didnt go, I had other things to do but conflating an apparent willingness to come for crosses with Wild coming in for Scholes isn't credible.

I say it is credible and the results give my opinion more credence.

If I see the goalkeeper coming for more crosses with my own eyes now under Wilde than under Scholes.....on the basis of what can you say I'm wrong?
