  1. As the tuck shops don't yet exist I would think that if anyone wanted 'healthy' options including then nows the time to mention it.

But there's nothing wrong with everything in moderation.

There will be a large range of old favourites such as Liq+Blackcurrant, Uncle Joes, Pear Drops, Rhubarb and Custard, Sarsaparilla Drops and lots of others (hopefully Rushtons), so please do mention anything you may be after via this thread and I'll do my best to include. So there should be plenty to keep the big kids happy.

If this gets off to a good start then it will raise much needed funds for Boundary Blues work, and perhaps bring a few happy faces to the terraces (irrespective of what's happening on the pitch!!).

  2. i reckon peter jones will be given another go, did well upfront, the centre back with reuben who was he again?

Rod McDonald. IMO looked good, raw, but certainly had a bit of composure about him and did well against a very strong Burnley frontline. Didn't really see what his pace was like as he wasn't really put in that kind of situation. Worthy of another couple of goes as we are lacking some young centreback back up.

  3. surely if the club didnt franchise the betting, food and beer and ran them themself we could earn a good chunck of the 15k a week needed.

Not really, the costs involved and cashflow of buying/selling stock, staff wages etc along with the whole operation of it mean that the franchise is probably the better option. We aren't alone, majority of pl and fl clubs do the same.

One thing I hope the club is taking more interest in is revisiting the marketing/partnerships with businesses. I did a lot of work including putting a plan together for how this could work off my own back. Increasing revenue streams into the clubs outside of many of the outdated marketing/hospitality packages. None of which need to increase marketing costs and utilise the existing infrastructure open to the club.

I take a fairly neutral view on the Trust, I believe they have lost their way (but let's face it the club haven't exactly been the beacon of vision and planning), and I see a huge number of problems with them, the current culture and decision making. But they have many dedicated people who want to look after the club, and it is times like these that they step up.

However, one thing I definately would not like to see is the Trust embarking on a fund-raising campaign with the sole intention of all monies raised going straight to the club. Looking at it from a business pov, as a minor shareholder in a business I would never expect to pump cash into a business when I have no ultimate say over the outcome. And unless Simon and Danny have transfered shares to Corney, then ultimately he's in an even weaker position.

Raise money, please I will back that in all ways I can, but retain control over those monies, they may be really necessary later!!

As an aside I would like the club to be looking at appointing some new directors soon - investors or not, the club needs some good business heads and contacts on the board now more than ever to open as many doors as possible.

  4. Just watched Barrys interview and one thing really concerns me about it.

Were the trust not set up as a fans body to flag these issues when they were arising?

Barry has admitted in his interview that there was prior knowledge of the departures of Gazal and Blitz.

What measures had been put in place by the trust to help in safeguarding the club from a potentially disastrous situation?

What else is being done by the trust other than asking the usual suspects to dig deeper? Are there any new initiatives to raise money? Is there a doomsday scenario in place should Corney follow his compadres and walk?

What will happen to the £250,000 of fans money that bought Barry his seat should things take a turn for the worse? Is it ring fenced?

How has it gotten to the stage where the first that the fans representative body lets its members know what is going on is after the horse has bolted?

Other than that, I agree with whoever it was that posted the other day that it is certainly one of Barrys better interviews, despite the fact that he is repeating the same old rhetoric. Then again, Corney probably has all the gob shoes right now.

    Derek.

    Spot On!

  5. Cant say that, You never know what their personal situations will be. They could in actual fact ask for the money back at any time.

All very well saying that there is no plans presently but things can change in an instant. That's a bit worrying. If their business interests aren't flourishing I aint sure that they aren't going to demand the money back. It's a nest egg to fall back on. If one of the other companies goes tits up, creditors could demand re-couping owed money. Don't know enough about business to know the in's and out's but I do know that we could be f***** in an instant

I'm not arguing that case, I'm merely saying that it seems on the surface that the likelihood with regards to the loans is the scenario I mention. Of course this doesn't take account of any personal change in circumstances, but the talk of budgets set out for the year suggest that this is the case. As sensible business guys I'd be pretty confident of saying that they have made preparations for not getting this money back immediately.

From the pov of other businesses failing, again the loans are not immediately at risk. That all said there is always a risk whilst the loans are there that they could be called in, in an instant.

From a business point of view I say that the lack of clarification over these is more about not reveling a potential negotiating hand away - in other words, as I initially said with Corney still around - unlikely to be touched, but a new large investor - the repay of the loans (or a large proportion) become part of the asking price.

At the end of the day, I am worried about the current situation, but that for me isn't based on the loans already committed, it is for 12months time and that the current board is now lacking real depth in terms of business experience and I'd like to see Corney setting out a plan to get some more people on board - even if this is in a non-exec position. There is now a lack of entrepreneurial experience, business contacts and marketing experience on there (though it could be argued some of these were lacking before). Knowing the money man behind Burnley as I do and the make up of the board there, it was these kind of people who made the difference which eventually filtered down onto the pitch.

  6. Also the no plans to re-coup the loans at the moment, suggesting to me that at some point they are going to want their money back.

Probably be the case that if a decent sized investor comes in they will want the loans repaid/some kind of agreement as part of the purchase, however as long as it remains Corney (or the odd small investor) then they will not call the loans in.

  7. We've been working with Dr Kershaws for the past 7 months and if you order from our site using the code DRKER182 you get a 10% discount and Dr K's get a 10% donation.

    dr k

The Trust have a similar code and it is something we've suggested to the club as a revenue stream (over 18 months ago!) along with some of our other stuff like latics branded sweets but without a reply since.

  8. Just to make the point that the MEN media partner stuff is driven mainly due to the Oldham Advertiser - which after a few mistakes a couple of years ago (with City advertising on the Oldham football pages) seems ok for Oldham news whenever I see it (though it's not often as I'm not in the area).

In terms of being 5 in the list that's about right. Long gone are the days when we used to be the 3rd club in the MEN, on Piccadilly Radio and NWT.

  9. Possibly not as much of an issue as it looks at first sight.

Debt HMRC are after is in the main only 20 days overdue, AIM suspension is the formal procedure in this case.

A local businessman has recently ploughed around £13m into the club, so it may be fair to assume that this probably isn't quite as bad as it first looks - though a sign that there will be further cutbacks at PNE.

Probably also a good indicator as to the very good players they are releasing or have on the transfer list.

  10. Actually don't remember much about the game itself (other than it being a cracker). A feeling of ecstatic shock when Earl scored and euphoria when dodger appeared at the far post to slide in the equaliser (though you just knew it was going to happen).

My memories are more of the day itself. It was the first cup game (2nd year of season ticket) that season that I couldn't go to (excluded Southampton away from that as my dad couldn't take us on a midweek to the south coast). Everyone we spoke to that morning was either a very scared red or supporting us.

But the excitment of the day was that my team were going to be live on the BBC in the semi-final of the FA cup - that just didn't happen. And those were the days that it was so exciting on FA Cup final day as you got the whole day build up - and it felt just like that, but with my team.

Something lost in todays wall-to-wall coverage, it's difficult to contemplate just how exciting a feeling that was.

I remember smugly thinking how many of the plastic reds at our primary school on Monday would now claim to be Oldham fans (after years of stick in the playground, and it was most of them on that Monday!), and the same smug feeling about how wrong my Uncle had been at the first game of the season when he said I should be a Man U fan as Oldham wouldn't ever do anything. (He used to have corp tickets at Old Trafford and the first game of that season they had played Arsenal, he'd decided to take my cousin, me and my dad - and the comment was made when the 0-1 score from Blackburn v Latics appeared at full time)...I've never forgotten that.

Also, the other semi-final that day was a cracker of a match as well - I just remember being elated by the whole footballing day...happy days!!

  11. Hi Macca

Will be happy to answer that the best I can.

Regarding what we have been doing, as you know myself and Rick have been working hard on our new website which was launched last month and will become the key platform of communication for the trust. WE have also recently bought some equipment for groundsman Lee Williams which the club had currently been renting in the form of two specialist mowers.

We had a meeting on Thursday and we are presently looking into raising the funds needed to buy a new minibus for the youth team. As you are aware, the previous one was stolen from the Training ground and burned out.

As an addition, I set up a fundraising code for Happy Sweet Shop which should help trust fundraising projects, could I suggest that a promo/comp to push this may help...the past helping the future as it were...

  12. Not bothered about all these internal politics/sources on sources etc etc etc. Just let us know officially what is happening with the lotto!

I'm not sure the new marketing guy has really got a grip on the communications from the club yet, which is disappointing.

All I'd like to know, as my standing order to the lotto is due in May, is this...

Is there still a valid lotto scheme running that benefits the club in some way or is the lotto no longer running?

I've been in the lotto since it's 2002/03 inception and in that time I've won a couple of times and received both prizes. Granted the most recent win was 2 match tickets at the end of November which I didn't receive a letter until the start of Feb about, but as I didn't even know I'd won them then it really wasn't a problem.

So any chance of clearing this lotto thing up?
