  1. You have to remember that Penney inherited a god awful sqaud. The 2nd most off form team in the division in the 2nd half of the season and we got pasted 5 0 by the most off form team before Christmas had even come. I think our players get bigged up a bit too much sometimes. By the end of Shez's reign we were :censored:e. Saying Penney has the same budget as Shez is stupid anyway. Overall it may well be the same. He has had to inherit a number of Shez's players still under contract. I would expect some of those who are or have been regular first teamers to be amongst the bigger earners at the club too. It would be the same if Penney got sacked at the end of the season and the new manager had the same budget as Penney, he would still have to put up with the players Penney has given 2 or 3 year contracts to. The only way to really see exactly what Penney can do with the same budget would be if all the players were released so he had the whole budget, or, and here is a novel idea, GIVE HIM ENOUGH TIME to completely overhaul the squad and add to the players he has bought in and then see what happens. Then if he fails fine get rid, at least he and us will know he has had a fair crack at it and not been up to the job.
  2. It was definitely the fault of someone who is somehow involved with Oldham Athletic.
  3. haha lighten up he brightens up the messageboard and if by some small chance he is serious with these posts it makes it all the funnier!
  4. It's 110% true ask Penneys wife she was there too. We also maybe resigning Brett Ormerod just spoke to his brother in Currys Digital in the Arndale centre.
  5. Mate we are already promoted, doesnt matter about results the football league says we have the best players, managers, owners and more than anything the best fans so they are going to put us in the championship next season. Merry Christmas
  6. Tom Cruise on loan from Arsenal, i bumped into Dave Penney TK Maxx on Market Street, done deal!!
  7. Fair enough if no one in Failsworth supports Oldham or thinks they are Mancs, but at the end of the day it is still in Oldham and its not that far from BP that current Oldham fans should be considering not going. Thats the thing which I am finding baffling TBH. What is it? 3 miles down the same road? I know I go past it on the bus from Manchester and it must only be 10 minutes away from the current ground. If it was a lot further away I would understand people hang ups, but its a big development, if the only suitable place is a big site on the outskirts of town this shouldn't be a big surprise. I would have thought if anything attendances would rise made up of the existing hardcore, a number of those who have drifted away, curious locals and free local kids. It really makes me wonder if some people who say they will not follow the move to Failsworth actually support Oldham Athletic Football Club or if they just use it as tool to moan at and about. To be honest I think that those who are shouting the loudest about not wanting to move to Failsworth are probably the most diehard fans who, when push comes to shove will be the first ones snapping up tickets at the new ground because Oldham Athletic is their number 1 priority in life ( I hope so anyway otherwise its worrying!)
  8. If you get to piccadilly by 2pm you can make it for a 3pm kick off by bus but you will be cutting it fine. Go to Lever Street and get 181,182 or 24 to Rochdale which take you within 5 minutes of the ground. It takes 10 mins to walk from the station to Lever Street and there should be a bus around 20 past. Otherwise get a taxi if there is a few of you it should cost similar amount in black cab as the bus. Id run the meter or they may rip you off. Sometimes they say its too far for the meter but thats bull:censored: I think to get you to pay more. You can also get regular buses from Oldham Street parallel to Lever Street to Oldham bus station and jump on another bus or get a short taxi ride to the ground.
  9. Heres another nice one with a small capacity I have heard good things about before HJK Helsinki. http://www.uefa.com/competitions/woco/venu...6106/index.html Edit to say I think even if the capacity is 12k and people wanted it to be more at 16k, the design could play a big part in warming to the smaller ground. I think a nice 12k stadium would be much better than a Shrewsbury/Colchester style one with 16k, however I am expecting a 12k Shrewsbury/Colchester style one:(
  10. Some great looking small stadiums there, it would be nice to follow suit. I wonder why the English ones are so basic? High cost of land so less to spend on the stadium?
  11. thats very unlucky! I bet he couldnt do that again if he tried.
  12. Sounds like we actually played quite well then and were let down by poor finishing, coupled with going defensive at the end? Its really hard to gauge when you dont go, with the amount of people who go OTT if we dont win.
  13. Anyone remember Neil Danns goal for Blackpool? at BP, one of the best goals I have seen in the flesh, I seem to remember he got a standing ovation from most of the crowd so it must have been pretty bloody good:)! On a side note, anyone think things like that have died out of the game? Clapping opposition good goals/opposition keeper when he comes to your end?
  14. I agree. If I was to stick my neck out, I would say Smalley will have a long professional career and Alessandra wont. It would be great if they both did though.
  15. I just dont think Alessandra is stong/quick enough or has enough confidence/desire to play professional football at our level. Would love to be proved wrong but cant see it. I sometimes wonder about Smalley too but believe he does have the desire to go with his ability. He gets slated a lot on here but I believe its more inconsistency from a young player who gets moved positions a lot.
  16. What a legend! Loved that goal away at Wrexham, the free kick vs Brighton, the winner at Stockport and every time he made a defender fall over. What stopped him from playing at the highest level? you think he started too late?
  17. Its funny you should mention that as another part of the job is making videos which can be put up on youtube etc so it could well happen! Thanks for all the info guys, think I will get in touch with AH and see what he has to say on the matter.
  18. I am not sure of the reason but on a different forum there was a thread about the Irish or Northern Irish League and a few tips which paid off good. I think there maybe a bit of match fixing in one of these leagues so worth keeping an eye on. Study a lot of European Leagues there is a hell of a lot of match fixing going on there. I have heard this from 2 very heavy sports gamblers. One guy was making a packet off football betting but lost it all on the horses the idiot. The other a Greek friend showed me his betting on Italian and Greek leagues a few years ago and he was very successful. I know the Italian match fixing scandal has come out but I am pretty sure they will return to form. One example he gave is towards the end of a season if a big team needs a win and a smaller team is safe in Serie A they are likely to throw the match, same with the big teams in Greece. The Greek lad also made a shed load on live tennis bets. I dont have the money to gamble at the moment which is good because I do enjoy it and usually lose:)
  19. I agree that worldwide salary capping could be the answer. Although I think they would have to cap it high to get any of the big clubs interested, probably higher than the biggest wages now. Am I right in thinking salary capping came into NBA during the last 20 years due to ridiculous wages? I seem to remember seeing something on this when I was younger.
  20. There was a Stockport fan at my interview on Monday and he was livid about the Sale Sharks screwing them over. I do feel sorry for them I always liked going to Stockport away and they seemed a similar club to ours. All this talk of many clubs going into administration makes me feel a bit better about our situation, at least off the pitch for now anyway.
  21. I start a new job in January and it involves organising events trips etc for foreign students coming to Manchester, by all accounts many of them from South East Asia are footy mad and sadly obsessed with Man United. I was thinking of trying to organise a trip to Fortress Boundary, so they can sample a real football match and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on the best way to do this. I was thinking either taking them along on my usual match day experience or maybe seeing if I can sort out a porter cabin or box thing and maybe seeing if I could get a tour round the club. I have never been in the porter cabin things in all my time at Latics so have no idea of what the day is like or how much it costs. I will of course be getting in touch with the club but it would be great if anyone has any input on the matter. Hopefully we can maybe win some new fans through this:)
  22. So whats the story? A player been naughty on holiday only to be hunted down at BP?
