  1. i firmly believe until all the doo gooders who decided to tamper with our stadiums and our game in general, put their bollock right and put it back as it was, then its just gonna get worse and worse..

the bottom 2 divisions will inevitably become non proffesional....theres more and more clubs going into administration now than ever before...salary caps will have to come in...

prime example of the decline,,,,celtic played rapid vienna last week....the long awaited re match from 25 years ago..

absolute hatred to this club vienna by the celtic fans,,,18000 empty seats,,,man utd playing wolfsburg...empty seats all around the ,,,full every game old trafford....

its not just a latics thing this is it,,,its football in general and it needs putting back as it was...

  2. id say knocking the clayton down has contributed to loss of support

lads love that booze before and after the game and a short stroll to the ground

i know the clayton green is there but its just not the same is it....

must have been 600-1000 in the clayton before games i would imagine...

lads dont want that agro of getting taxis or jumping on buses to get to the ground after a booze..

lack of a bar in the chaddy

    crap grub

    no grub

    no smoking

    no swearing

    no abuse

and we pay them to get in

  3. if i skipped it, then i wouldn't have known it was 2 pages of the virtues of not smoking at latics!

why not read the whole thread, then look about on these boards about the ideas i have put across..its very tiresome to yet again and again repeat them..the club doesn't act on these suggestions anyway...

this thread is about trying to get supporters back to bp and the reasons they left...

up to now all ive heard is why 1 bloke with asthma can now go to bp as opposed to many people not going due to none smoking....like its been said,,,,the club need to compromise here somewere and get them back,,,,,

just putting over my view johnny,,,just like you got yours

  4. Well when you put it like that why don't we force feed people cigarettes from birth and hope the NHS has enough money left after treating all the smoking related illnesses to fix a broken arm or two. I'm not completely anti-smoking at BP but for the life of me I can't see how the smoking ban has stopped thousands going- tens yes, hundreds maybe but thousands no. I would wager that since somewhere around 5% of the population has asthma or some other chronic chest condition (respiratory only not including anyone with cardiovascular problems like an past history of heart attack or TIA or stroke or angina etc.) the numbers of asthmatic followers of Oldham is not to disimilar to those people who have stopped going because they say they don't like the smoking ban. This doesn't cover anyone who doesn't want to sit near a smoker because they simply don't like the smell of smoke or don't fancy running the minutely increased risk of catching cancer from sitting near someone who smokes for 2 hours.

I'm yet to hear of anyone who was tied down and made to smoke cigarrettes until they became so addicted they found it impossible to quit- smokers chose to smoke (and a lot of smokers still alive knew the risks when they started), other people shouldn't have to suffer just because someone doesn't feel a law is fair.

i take on board all your stats and whatever but they not convincing me...

i used to go with minimum 15 blokes every week

out of the 15 i just counted 10 who smoke

these 10 dont go anymore and they dont go to the pub like they used too

thats 10 in our little possie

    how many more are their

  5. and ...

let's be honest here, you're saying a smoker should have the right to affect an asthmatic, but an asthmatic should not have the right to attend a football game and complain about smoking?

    Jeez, that's some world.

so we should give up on thousands of potential fans because one or two are asthmatic

    that makes sense

  6. I'm sorry but I have done both. I think I've avoided going to a game because I've a bad chest and being near smokers only makes it worse and I know I've not gone to pubs because of my bad chest and left earlier than I've wanted to.

well your a first.....but you will stand there on a tuesday night -10 with a bad chest....or is it a case of picking on the easy target a smoker

  7. come back and tell me that when your little healthy baby that you having (congratulations by the way) is in a pram next to someone stood next to them smoking away....

I hate it when people smoke next to me now and I'm ...... *cough*

There isnt a massive difference, people work on buses, planes, and other modes of transport and are not able to smoke for longer periods than 90 mins.......

football is at most twice a week, people should be able not to smoke for that period, if not, well I would ask a doctor !!! (imo)

we are talking about a football match in open air,,,,its not as if we are sat in a closed box is it......

and before the smoking ban became law,,,i didnt hear one single person say :im not going to the game today because of all the smokers:,,,,,i never heard one person say im not going in the pub tonight because of all the smokers....

smoking is a really nasty habit but when you try telling someone they CANT have a smoke then they just not gonna show...

  8. I can't stand smoking.

But all these little things are part of the match day experience for individuals. As they get eroded people find other things to do.

Is it beyond the ability of the owners to provide a shelter away from the masses within each of their 3 stands?

its not a question of whether you like smoking or not

when we were getting 10000 crowds...i would bet half of those smoked

thats alot of people now being told what they can and cant do on a saturday afternoon

  9. i live in wakefield now about 1 mile from belle view,,home of the wakefield wildcats

on nearly every junction,,pub car parks,,shops,,u name it,,there are massive and i mean massive billboards advertising the next home game the wildcats have....out of towners have no choice but to see these boards and im sure they must have attracted people from far away.....beaware,,living in wakefield,,,you know who the wildcats are playing week in week out...the local paper,,,the wakefield express,,,all the back page is about the wilcats and more....even if they have nothing to report,,the back page is filled somehow

prove me right if im wrong but if i drive through oldham tomorrow,,would i find out who latics next home game is against and when...i doubt it....im trying to set up my own business and i have found out advertising is essential to future success...
