  1. 'Build, strength, pace and even touch', someone said. He is also a beast, with attitude coming out of his ears. And our manager has taken him under his wing - that will earn Johnson respect which is a massive bonus with this guy. He didn't see much of the ball first half but seeing them trying to get the ball off him second half was exhilarating. We have not seen anything like him before that I can recall. If he can start finding the back of the net - hells, bells. Be nice to him LJ.
  2. I can't disagree because I can't be sure your 'a lot of women' aren't 99% of all women. I still think your 99% is unsubstantiated but if you are sticking with it, no harm done. I have not taken your comments personally I am debating the topic.
  3. We have now had a wide spectrum of opinion on the crude degradation of a young woman who was representing her/a football club and its long established nickname. She was doing this in a family environment where all were welcomed. She arrived in front of our following with a warm friendly smile which changed to a brave faced, forced smile upon hearing the chants. She was obviously affected by the chant. ‘If’ she was being paid as a (Disney type character) to entertain families (which was clearly her intention, if you were there to witness it), why on earth would she expect what she got. She was young enough for her parents to be there and old enough, perhaps, for her young children to be there. Does anyone refute that a football arena is a family environment and most fans don’t want to hear this stuff? It is also worth noting we made a lot more noise without it when we could ALL join in. Verbal abuse of referees, linesmen opposing player’s, and even our own players and coaching staff, all seem to be fair game and I would agree a line is very difficult to draw. But surely lewd chanting aimed at a female club mascot should be way outside what any sane person would call acceptable. If it was, would our own pre-match teenage dancers or even Jenny Warburton, be fair game? In today’s anything goes public displays of lewdness and excess by some young and not so young people it is worth remembering that some of these said people would take ‘offence’ at someone making a remark or looking at them in the wrong way. We all know that is a fact, and, what retribution is sometimes taken. Obviously, they think being looked at or commented to is offensive to their sensitive nature. Unbelievable!
  4. You have seamlessly drifted from demands to expose herself in public to seeking attention. However, your input from a female point of view is welcomed. Thanks love.
  5. I saw the well-built, youngish guy being hustled out by 4 stewards, he had a smile on his face. I should feel lucky that they didn't pick on an old fart like me if the stewards just wanted something to do. In general our away support was magnificent - as usual. But a section of our support chanting 'get your t**s out for the boys' to a elegantly dressed 'Miss Posh' while she smiled and waved cheerfully in our direction was below the pale. Especially while at the same time 'Mr Posh' was throwing sweets to our young fans. Good humoured? Maybe. I suppose it depends how you would like someone you respect, like a mother, sister, wife or daughter to be treated in public. On the game we were easily the better side apart from our inability to get quality balls into their box for most of the match. We were clinically punished for two rare mistakes and suddenly came to life as a threat for 10mins. Work in progress and a very entertaining transition.
  6. Bought two tickets for me and grandson at 2-15. Someone in front when I got there and two behind when I left. Optimism moved up a couple of notches that there could be more than 300 there. I also, think there will be a response to our lacklustre performance upfront against Walsall. Whether it's enough remains to be seen. A good game on the cards and a Compo's, Holmfirth tea on the way back if the spirits need lifting.
  7. A few months ago someone on here quoted Mike Keegan as saying 'there is no release clause' as if it was fact. A fact which I doubted but couldn't prove otherwise. Corney did the the job for me 2 months down the line. Rumour is the staple diet of football and sooner or later it usually comes true. Virtually all players move on eventually. My reasoned guess on him staying is based on a few things, some already stated. Baxter signed when we were on our uppers after a bad start to the season. We gave him a chance that he grabbed with both hands. He signed a long contract in January against most peoples expectations, including mine. He is loved here and he knows it. Our new manager has surrounded him with likeminded players and tactics that suit him down to the ground. If he has a successful season here as top dog the Premiership could beckon but in any case a bigger contract anywhere. He is probably happier at work than he has been for 2 or 3 years. I think he will stay based on probability, but if he did go LJ would be unfazed by what to do next. And like has been said we should all say THANK YOU VERY MUCH. He will always be welcome at Boundary Park.
  8. In the pursuance of humour, you will have been right at home the last 4yrs and suicidal during the cup run.
  9. To the tune of Camptown Races - 'Adam Rooney's better then Wayne, do-dah, do-dah. Adam Rooney's better than Wayne, do-dah, do-dah-day.' It could be extended with something like - 'going to score all day, going to score all night'. but this needs a punch-line to finish it off. All subject of course to it not being legally challenged as 'false representation'.
  10. A very good comparison will be available tomorrow as to how well LJ's efforts are being appreciated by the fans. This time last year we played Sheffield Wednesday in the same cup. Attendance was 3474 including 1230 visitors, that's 2244 home fans. It should be very interesting. For the money I think 5,000 could be hit.
  11. 'Feet on the ground' I like that. With Penney, (a modicum of success before us) and Dickov (recent experience and contacts at the top)I was tentatively floating. Both ended badly. With LJ, I may be excited inside but I try and focus that excitement into comments on LJ's efforts and dedication getting to where he is today (way above average) and his delivery on players, tactics and results to date, (exceptional in respect to our situation). I am enjoying the glow with my feet 'firmly' on the ground.
  12. SLIM. Apologies, just answered the question without realising it had been rescinded.
  13. After just one game our odds for relegation have been shortened by half from around 2/1 to around 4/1 (4th favourite to 10th. It didn't take them long to latch onto something tangible. We're off.
  14. I don't feel as though it's a false sense of security I have, but if there is a problem with anything, Johnson is onto it. That includes the defence.
  15. Is there anything LJ hasn't got covered? I think his boys are going to run through walls for him.
  16. Another piece in the almost complete jigsaw that should take us well away from a relegation threat before we kick a ball. The real bonus in all this positivity should be a serious (1000+ initially) increase in attendances with all the benefits that will bring. Could we please see a couple of iron girders rising out of the rubble or is that being greedy?
  17. I think I understand; your drumming up hits for the **** site or your having a laugh,
  18. You are very complementary. Are you going to ask us for money? If not, welcome.
  19. I am expecting Byrne to start on Saturday baring dramatic incoming developments. It would give us an established back four who are well aware of each others game and a spokesperson for Johnson on the pitch.
  20. I thought Broady was OK. I'm sure they will persuade him to stay when he gets back off his jollies.
  21. The main thrust of the question is - are we a club that causes players to stagnate? No we are not! The coaching staff do that with the manager taking full responsibility for the type of tactics, coaching and fitness regime employed. Most coaches would have only started thinking of coaching as they neared retirement. They need a job and without any particular vocation, drop into a managerial career. That is why many of them are crap at it, long term. Then we have the owners. They all know how to make millions at something but very rarely, if at all, has it anything to do with football. Unless they are a fan, very rare, they are in it for something and it is not usually for the love of the club they have just parachuted into. These people then have to hire a manager to run a business they themselves know nothing about. It is little wonder that so many clubs are in dire straights. This now brings us to Lee Johnson. He has wanted to be a football manager since his preteens. He has spent the intervening years talking shop with an above average manager on a daily basis. He achieved his first 2 coaching badges before the age of 31 and had started his Pro-License before he got the job. On applying for the job he then watched us 7 times and arrived at interview with a list of our faults and how he would go about rectifying them, (something he went on to do short term). He provided a list of around 200 players who would be out of contract this summer. He suggested to Corney that he sign Korey Smith. Lee Johnson is nothing like Paul Dickov nor anyone else that I can recall. Will he be any good - results wise - definitely remains to be seen but I am looking forward to being entertained and a top half finish. I will worry about the negatives when they are effecting our league position, because sure as hell LJ has his own agenda and he will change it accordingly.
