  1. That would be a safe thing to say in order to muddy the waters and make speculation on a name more difficult. I don't see Johnson waiting 4 months to appoint someone unless he was sure they would come. It's speculation of course and most contracts run to the end of June. He could also be a player.
  2. Does Johnson seem the type to need or welcome advice on his assistants appointment? Any new addition to the board is hardly likely to be an a Abramovich type. I have a sneaking suspicion that Johnson will have had someone in mind since he stopped playing in January to follow his coaching ambitions. He does come across as a meticulous planner and the new man isn't exactly needed just yet. Probably having a good holiday.
  3. Two footed, quick, eager to cross or pass the ball, defenders back off him or kick him. Johnson will think he can improve him and knows he can do Dovestones top resi comfortably. Well worth a punt.
  4. I go on the OS a couple of times a day, the same as I do on here. I manage to negotiate the dross and informative in equal measures on both sites without getting too irritated. But if anyone on here upsets Miss Jenny to the point of her resignation, thus denying me the shapely sight of her posterior in a tight pencil skirt at half time, I will be seriously cross. Excuse me a minute.
  5. A terrible headline if its Mvoto. He is already under contract until the end of June.
  6. LC receives verbal offer--leaves it with his agent to improve it with Latics or someone else--or doesn't tell agent--if agent fails to do either LC should have known--or agent is a plonker-- or LC is a plonker because he sat on the verbal offer and said and did nothing. Morse would soon get to the bottom of this.
  7. If any of the retained players are arriving back to pre-season training thinking of 'just getting on with it' they are deluded. Johnson's first 10 games were a make do and mend exercise.
  8. I would guess 'lazy' will be comfortably addressed by Johnson. Duracell, genius sounds better.
  9. I would be very surprised if Baxter didn't have a minimum release clause in his contract if someone from a higher division came calling. Would he want to go to Doncaster though? If that is the case Dickov would know it.
  10. With LJ I have never been more confidant that we will not be stitched up by anyone. Not over confidant, mind.
  11. John Hardie - I styled myself on his horizontal acrobatics playing on the croft outside our house.
  12. Much better for me. I didn't like last years kit at all. 'Latics' blue is the way forward.
  13. I am happy with the pricing structure. It is a deal for families and supervised young fans. They are also amongst the cheapest in League 1. I wonder how many of those who are unhappy, would be happy with a salary freeze or reduction for 6yrs to enable their company to sell more of the service. Going for ‘cheap’ is a big risk. Depending on selling over 5,000 cheap tickets when you are quietly visualising a successful season is certainly a lot easier when it’s not your money. If Corney has changed the pricing policy it may be because he has stumbled over Lee Johnson. Although difficult to achieve, the best way to increase crowds is winning and attractive football. And I suspect Corney has high hopes for young Johnson, as do we all. What we are short of is a good Spin Doctor.
  14. You haven't factored in the loss of 3,500 match day entries at full price. The playing budget is based on income not the number of fans.
  15. Sorry if I have missed it, but it seems no one has mentioned the FA playing budget related to income cap. This season it was set at 65% of income. Next season it will be reduced to 60% of income. This may well account for the reduction in budget. It may well be that TTA's have had a dividend out of the Cup run or it's gone on other expenditure. It does appear that none of the new entries into L1 next season will be on a lower budget than us. The most important member of staff to any club, IMO, is the manager. Most of us seem happy with LJ and feel he is a cut above the average rookie. We all know a big budget doesn't = success. LJ is happy with the budget, so we have no alternative but to give him a chance. I am expecting a smaller, fitter, and more mobile squad. Johnson has already increased home support and if he can get us within sniffing distance of the play-offs there should be another modest increase. Increased income is the only way to increase the playing budget. LJ talks an excellent game and I am looking forward to see him putting it into action come next season.
  16. Next we will have Dickov playing for Chelsea. Imagine the headline, 'Suarez bites Dickov'.
  17. I agree. Undoubtedly this thread is highlighting the benefits for supervised kids. It should be a given that most of the ones on the pitch were unsupervised. There is also no evidence given of how many of those were £10 ST holders. The club should have a record of how many juveniles paid cash and how many ST's were admitted in order to make a constructive judgement. My guess is that many of the kids on the pitch were cash payers, there for the crack of a last game pitch invasion. If unsupervised kids were isolated it would probably make the one-off merchants think twice about attending. Even allowing for the fact that the club were (unlucky) with the last minute goal, something needs to be done.
  18. It would be interesting to know how many tickets Latics sold for the match. When I arrived at the ground (around 2-10) there was a queue of about 40 fans wanting to pay cash. There was no queue at the ticket only turnstiles. There were also a good few hundred already inside. Is it possible that because of a low ticket take-up Bury were panicked into pushing a pay-on-the-day policy, thus persuading fans to make that choice? Even on OWTB during the last few days there have been wild variations of how many fans would be going. To many fans, paying on the day is attractive because of the logistics of getting a ticket or not wanting to commit to attending. It seems as though that's what most chose to do With the Bury share of the gate hardly likely to be more than 4,000 a plan B for Oldham fans should have been considered. And by the hundred or so Bury fans in the East Stand that would have been an obvious choice. Our traditionally above average away support and importance of the game should have indicated that this game should have been ALL TICKET FOR AWAY FANS, and even sold at BP on Saturday morning if there were any left, for those for whom it was more convenient. Closing the gates for those with tickets is not on. They should, at the very least, have known how many tickets were sold and closed the cash turnstiles when the aggregate was close to being reached. Hind sight is a wonderful tool though.

  20. You could go to the West End with this thread. Pete Waterman to produce it is my suggestion.
  21. Great news! I will remain calm until I see it rising out of the rubble.
