  1. 'IF', he goes the buyers valuation will be very interesting. 178 appearances in 8yrs and injury prone. As a punt how much is he worth? Surely, not more than a very low few million. But I suppose owt is better than nowt.
  2. The tie breaker is way too easy, everyone has one of those. What about Bradford P. A. 2nd round FA Cup, 7th Dec 1963 with proof of ownership being - how much did it cost to go to QPR with Billy Barlow the following week? I am sure it would be of interest to all that our average Division 3 home attendance for the first 13 games of that season was 15,205, to clarify I repeat, 15,205. this of course is when the working class could afford to go and a little fat bloke in a number 8 shirt was entertaining us.
  3. Even at our level admission is expensive for the unreliable delivery of a quality product. The main stumbling block that many fans probably don't appreciate is the fact that it is by and large on sale once a fortnight, the shear size of the underlying cost of employees and administration and stadium maintenance on a full time basis is just impossible to fund out of match day income. I know most of us 'do' appreciate the input of a benefactor but there are still a few who really do expect too much.
  4. I thought LJ was a cut above average at his post-appointment interviews. I find it very difficult to compare his detailed negative analysis of the clubs infrastructure and subsequent rapid improvement with any other manager, including Big Joe. Examples are; the weight loss of our (how shall I put it?) more chunky squad members, above the call of duty friendship and assistance in the development of CH and his ability to bring in a number of no-cost quality signings. There are of course many other areas he has improved not least being the quality of our football. Has anyone else noticed that our improved results ratio seems to stem from the cessation of continuously playing the ball out from the back? His head is full of ideas and he is not afraid or incapable of changing what is not working. I hope I'm not mad but I would be very worried if we went up this season (not that I think it's likely). We need to build our fan base up to around 8 or 9 thousand and that's not going to be possible without the new stand. Our best way forward IMO would be to create interest with improved results, good football and dicing with the play-offs, a trip to Wembley in the Paintpot and then 'investing' in a big quality striker in the close season as a priority and season ticket seller. As to what Johnson is going to do on this 'contract business', he is right he has achieved nothing yet. But I do believe he has got his teeth into Oldham Athletic and make no mistake he will be motivated by the desire to create something out of nothing. I wouldn't mind betting that Corney has kick started the new stand on the back of what he and LJ are plotting. I have always thought Simon Corney was a decent bloke and that is what I think of Lee Johnson.
  5. Every games a 6 pointer. The 3 points won plus 3 points your opponents will never be able to use against you, or of course vice-versa. It just becomes more critical towards the end of the season.
  6. Kusunga was steamrollered off the pitch aggressively from behind by the full body weight of their number 9. No attempt was made to play the ball. Their number 9 then stood his ground facing down Kusunga (probably with verbal's). Kusunga took the bait like a big fat fish. Job done. Most players would have remained crumpled against the hoardings for a totally different outcome. l
  7. In chronological terms Corney saying he hasn't had any dealings with Koukash for seven months stacks up. This would tie in with Corney giving or getting the go ahead to begin work on the new stand, an act of 'up yours' in defiance. He certainly sounded very committed and upbeat on the radio.
  8. But it never happened. Whose decision would that have been?
  9. A clip, err, clips in. A magazine has mechanical assistance. According to Google
  10. Corney, obviously has a higher opinion of LJ's overall impact at the club than you do. With a new stand close to breaking ground zero he must feel Johnson is the one to take us up a rung. Things in are looking up at the moment in quite a few areas - at someone else's expense.
  11. Most of us moan at some time and we all have our own speciality subject. But there is something seriously wrong with anyone who enters the ground flashing their season ticket for a cash only, unreserved seating paint pot cup match.
  12. A blood and snot cup-tie (rare in this comp), atmosphere (rare in this comp), some great football from our lads, controversial incidents, possibly the quickest first team debut sending off and a 5-1 victory to boot. Not forgetting another outstanding performance from one of our young players - Danny Philliskirk, this time and from start to finish. Were we perfect? No such thing in football. But great entertainment for £5 or £10 quid, I will leave the coaching staff to pick the bones of the negatives.
  13. Certainly a strange one with none of them likely to start. Safety first can only be the reason with having a Tuesday night match. On a positive it proves our cash flow is sound because I think we will loose around a 1,000 off the gate on a dark and cold Tuesday night. Or, maybe they are trying to bulk up tomorrows gate for a serious assault on a BIG day out. I'll go for that.
  14. I don't think we did sit back. I am certainly no tactician but this is how I saw the first half in simple terms: We got off to a great start (much longer than five minutes) moving the ball about around them and through them. Wolves then had the audacity (probably instructions from the bench) to nullify this. They decided to relieve us of the ball. They did this by playing 'pass the parcel' across their back line and defensive midfield and they did it very well. That quieted things down so they then started to introduce some very telling balls through our midfield. Hey presto, we were on the back foot. Football - that's what it's all about - thrust and parry, counter thrust and counter parry. I love it!
  15. Another entertaining game with loads of skill and commitment on show. Every team in the land is looking at a weakness that needs improving. We missed chances, they missed chances but apart from 20minutes we competed skilfully toe to toe with a very good ( and costly) side. We were definitely the better side for longer than they were. I think the transition from a team of losing journeymen to a side winning with a little panache is continuing to take shape. I feel sure our patience will be rewarded before the end of the season with a better win ratio. With a new stand in prospect within the year, team strengthening of better quality players will come to the fore. KTF
  16. Tarky, was an unused sub - and again for the Liverpool game, how things change. Just watched a few clips of the run, It's simply incredible that we got that much pleasure out of last season. I don't see Wolves being as up for this game as we SHOULD be.
  17. Would that have been about the time they changed their manager?
  18. It was Larnell Cole, Scholes rates him and the club are interested in a loan. Whether Cole is reciprocating that interest after his visit is another matter.
  19. At this moment in time this match is the only 'guaranteed' way we are going to make any money out of the FA Cup. There are at least a couple of dozen clubs we could have drawn at BP that would have necessitated a price reduction - Wolverhampton Wanderers aren't one of them by a country mile. There is a good game in prospect here.
  20. I believe Larnell Cole had talks on Saturday and Scholes rates him. He is a quick footed attacking midfielder but has no experience in League football. He would need to be a rare immediate impact loanee for it to come off. If we were lucky in that respect and also managed to get an 'experienced' central defender it would, IMO, make a big difference. Trying to find a guaranteed striker at any level is like finding dobby horse poo.
  21. Oh ye of little faith. 1. Stick that up in the dressing room before the match. 2. We MUST have some vocals in the RRE. 3. Pressure them like we did against Swindon but didn't do at Wolves 4. They are just another beatable League 1 side. 5. Hope we can borrow an attacking midfielder with more energy than a Duracell
  22. OK, so some of us are 'muppet's' supporting LJ. And you and a few others are the ones with all the answers? Are you keeping Chong, Abdul and Branson swooping into town in a Brinks Mat helicopter under your hat? Ferguson, assisted by Scholes as manager is imminent, is it? I have seen most of our games this season, including at Peterborough, Preston and Wolves and last night(IMO) was the first time we deserved and got nothing. Their number 10, Sako gave the second best footballing display I have seen this season, Tarky at Preston being the best. The two goals last night were a result of two impressive runs by him resulting in aggressively whipped in balls that Oxley and Grounds failed to control in atrocious conditions, forced errors if you will. We competed reasonably well in general but never really created anything. I too was surprised by our squad but as long as I, you, or anyone else has a hole in their bottoms we will never know what result 'our' tactics would have delivered. LJ will be the one to learn from it, and make no mistake that is what he is doing, 'learning'. For the time being the 'muppet's' will continue to support while the 'knowledgable ones' prepare to make a 'BIG' announcement sometime very soon. That's my opinion anyway - without insulting anyone.
  23. Coming off at J13 and taking the A449 looks a safe option. A straight road and mostly dual carriageway that takes you pretty close to the ground which will be on your right.
  24. Just had a phone call off my grandson - 'do you fancy it or what'? I didn't need asking twice. Come on you dither's - phone a friend. PS THE OFFICIAL IS SAYING TICKETS ON SALE TILL 4-30. OOPS! Sorry jon199 meant to reply To people going at last minute post.
