I think people need to calm down placing so much faith that Stones will be the messiah. Really are setting the lad up for a fall.

Sure,  he did well in his cameo appearances but he's still young,  raw and learning his trade.

I don't think anyone is putting up as the Messiah he certainly won't transform us on his own but he's the type of player I'd like to see us sign, I also don't think it's as unrealistic a signing that some think either.

Do you think Norwood will be here next season, I have my doubts although a rejuvenated James Norwood playing alongside Stones with Garner and Fondop as back up does appeal to me.

He might fancy one last hurrah and it would be a terrific opportunity to win something else for him, here's hoping.

I've no idea if he will be here or not Id like him here but if he's got his mind on a move elsewhere or he isn't fully bought in then I wouldn't stand in his way if he wants to leave it would be best for all concerned.. But if he is then we need to get the best out of him because he will win us matches and have him play alongside the right kind of players. Stones certainly falls into that bracket.

You know that if we do then his dodgy knees will fall apart by the end of August...

I mean I know you aren't being totally serious there, but he'd be top of my list of signings. He'll get more out of James Norwood and its a signing that will get the fans on side hes young hungry and gives us energy. We can offer him regular football at a time in his career when he needs it at a place he'd be wanted. He's a great fit for us.

  4. The Rock bottom to me was the day we got relegated to the NL while it's fair to say we've had 1 or 2 bad results this season these are things we can recover from, when we got relegated we were staring into the abyss and didn't know if we had any future of any kind at all.

I actually think the first 30 minutes against Fylde was the most abject moment this season. The Hendon game while a pitiful result abd performance you could say was a game we weren't taking seriously and I'm quite happy for us to take next seasons competition as a secondary priority. However the Fylde game was a must win at the business end of the season. To put in such a low energy half hearted performance was pathetic.

Having said all that I see these as bumps in the road. Their is that post on social media which gives what people's ideas of progress looks like (a straight line of improvement) to what progress actually looks like, which is a general trend to zig zag upwards. We will have plenty more bumps in the road to come before we get back to the football league. we should just go along with the ride and accept that its part of the journey.

Agree about the need for an aggressive press. Too many opponents knocking it around at the back against a half-hearted  attempt.

I  remember being at Hartlepool when Josh Stones badgered the life out of their defence, won back possession and set up Norwood for a goal.  A few like him would do nicely.

Indeed and if Norwood is going to be here next season to get the best out of him at his age hes going to need a partner and one who can do his running for him in the way Stones can. Fondop could do that too and could also win the ball in the air but he's getting over 30 himself plus his injury record isn't the best plus he does occasionally do stupid things so we can't totally rely on him.

We have quite a few players who run around a lot. Doesn't mean they are any good.

Serial winners Micky Mellon and Paul Cook both included him in promotion winning squads.

We actually don't run around alot at all if anything we are a very static team which doesn't press and gets regularly out ran in games, although I do take your point about players needing to be able to do abit more than just run.

For the record Ollie Banks is far better than any of our midfielders and he's someone who got way more grief than he deserved while here.

  7. I think if you look at all the sides in the play offs they all do play abit differently but you could say they are sides which are worth more than the sum of their parts. We are probably the opposite of that.

We all know recruitment wasn't the best this season, and if we've learned anything from that experience it is that you can't just throw money at the problem. So my hope is that we sign players that fit a certain style of play and that the jigsaw pieces all fit together.

Looking at the attendances at the games we would have taken over some of these place, particularly when you saw the empty seats at Solihull and Barnet, and a play off game at BP would have probably come close to selling out (yeah I know some our players last season would have shrank in such circumstances but potentially its a huge advantage) plus we'd probably take double what Bromley or Solihull would take to Wembley so that would be like a home game in the circumstances. Obviously we want to go up automatically but you would think we'd have a 12th man advantage if we got to the play offs next season.

And they're rubbish.  You don't have to be anything special to get out of this league..

Unfortunately we're not even "nothing special"...

Still at least we get to go to Sutton next year.  There's always that.

Well we did beat Solihull at Solihull when we went on that rather good run in the middle of the season. Despite having an awful start an awful finish and awful home form throughout we did come close to getting in the play offs. That actually gives me optimism we won't have to make that bigger jump to get up.

Well it won't be Scunthorpe who lost to Boston.

Our best hope is Chorley and not another long trip Brackley.

Interesting you'd expect a resurgent Scunthorpe to pose a threat next season if they come up.

Like you say hopefully Chorley come first. But next season could be wide open their doesn't look like a genuine bigger hitter at the moment, but let's see how the summer develops.

    Friends at other clubs??

Meh! Pathological liar makes a tweet take that with a fistful of salt.

As others have said the plan was always to bring in other investors anyway we'll be fine.

It’s like saying you know what good food is because you eat at Michelin starred restaurants. You don’t know how to choose the ingredients or how to cook it!

Mellon has a track record of delivering promotion when given time and resource. That’s why I’m very comfortable with him being kept on.

I wouldn't say we've been eating at Michelin star restaurant more a greasy spoon with a 1 out of 5 hygiene rating.

Knowing what good looks like is hardly a pre requisite for success ……We all know what good looks like FFS!!😂😂

No but 5 promotions as a manager does

When was the last time we saw a promotion winning team? Atleast half of our fanbase hasn't seen one so I'm not sure we do truly know what one looks like.

    Have you voted? ⬇️

At the moment 66% of OWTB members (who expressed a preference) think Micky Mellon should stay as manager.

    🗳️

Considering the run we went on at the end of the season that's a pretty high approval rating overall.

Their does seem overall a lot less appetite for sacking the manager. So while knowone is happy with the way the season finished I think we are more fed up of rinse and repeat.

I know some have said that the only reason we shouldn't sack Mellon because of his prior track record I think overall its a compelling one. I do believe him when he says he knows what good looks like.

  13. It's been made pretty clear at the start of this thread that we all unanimously wanted a pretty large clear out. The statement doesn't say we've offered contracts to any of them. So really we are saying we are letting them go. People are looking to just get pissed off for no reason.

Perhaps it's just a case of we don't want to broadcast to everyone that we don't rate these players that's why we've no offered them a deal

  14. I read that as no new offers of new deals being made. A case for Fondop and maybe some of the youngsters who I've not seen but we need to create space on the wage bill, so it's a case of thanks very much and move on. Interesting we don't appear to have offered Jake Foreshaw anything bearing in mind the hype surrounding him 12 months ago.

Is it? Tell me yours then, because he certainly inherited an absolute mess of a football club. He provided decent budgets in the early days and i'd still argue that the squad that got relegated from League 1 was far superior to some of the ones in the previous few years that had stayed up. If we had stayed up, it may have worked out differently but i suspect not. He never really endeared himself to the fanbase for whatever reason, the crowds never went up when he took over which i still find strange given how many have turned out and supported Frank 2 divisions lower down.

    😂

    Sorry that's all that deserves.

They play in a higher league and are better than Leeds  so in your book they must be bigger  we might not have  bigger crowds than chesterfield this season but we have a far greater fan base. Than them. If we had walked the league like they did  we would of got more   Than their avg

That's one factor but not the only one. The fact is we didn't get bigger crowds than them, and they have a better side so right now those 2 factors add up to them being a bigger deal than us.

If you are a player and you are getting an offer from Oldham and Chesterfield this summer you are picking them. I'd say we are bigger club than a number of those in L2 though as our crowds and history trump the likes of Barrow and Harrogate.

Not that any of it matters anyway. The likes of Wealdstone and Fylde couldn't give a shit that we were good 30 years ago. I'd rather hope I get to say I support the smallest club in the Premier league again one day.

Are Bournemouth a bigger club than Leeds Leicester Southampton I don’t think so. The division you are in doesn’t make you a bigger club   The history of a club and your past achievements make you a bigger club  when Jack Walker bankrolled Blackburn  to the title  it didn’t make them the biggest club  in the country  that season just the best team  that year  so as someone said chesterfield will never be as big a club as us

But Chesterfield are getting bigger crowds than us Bournemouth aren't getting bigger crowds than Leeds
