They play in a higher league and are better than Leeds  so in your book they must be bigger  we might not have  bigger crowds than chesterfield this season but we have a far greater fan base. Than them. If we had walked the league like they did  we would of got more   Than their avg

That's one factor but not the only one. The fact is we didn't get bigger crowds than them, and they have a better side so right now those 2 factors add up to them being a bigger deal than us.

If you are a player and you are getting an offer from Oldham and Chesterfield this summer you are picking them. I'd say we are bigger club than a number of those in L2 though as our crowds and history trump the likes of Barrow and Harrogate.

Not that any of it matters anyway. The likes of Wealdstone and Fylde couldn't give a shit that we were good 30 years ago. I'd rather hope I get to say I support the smallest club in the Premier league again one day.

Are Bournemouth a bigger club than Leeds Leicester Southampton I don’t think so. The division you are in doesn’t make you a bigger club   The history of a club and your past achievements make you a bigger club  when Jack Walker bankrolled Blackburn  to the title  it didn’t make them the biggest club  in the country  that season just the best team  that year  so as someone said chesterfield will never be as big a club as us

But Chesterfield are getting bigger crowds than us Bournemouth aren't getting bigger crowds than Leeds

One thing you can’t say about Latics fans who have had patience in abundance! 😂😂

Interms of turning upto games and believing success can still happen yes we are incredibly patient.

Are we patient enough with those tasked with delivering success then I think that's debatable.

Patience often becomes happy clapping - how many other clubs are on a 30 or so year downwards trajectory?

The downward trajectory of the club ended in 2022. We've not progessed in the way we should of done on the pitch but we are no longer declining. It's not been a good end to the season but the problems are very fixable we know what "toxic" and "rotten to the core" look like and this isn't it.

I don't think their is anything wrong to have been expecting a promotion push this season it was a very realistic aim at thecstart of the season, we can and should be expecting one next season too. However aslong as we don't lose sight of the fact that we don't have the divine right to steamroller anyone in this league even if our history is far richer than theirs.

Not in a month of sundays

They get bigger crowds, have a better team, and now play in a higher division right now they are a bigger club.

But these things swing one way and then the other, so I wouldn't be surprised if we overtake them again in the near future.

Bit off topic (it is the FA Cup) but watching Coventry get shafted in the last minute yesterday by the filth brought back some unpleasant memories.

Yeah,  yeah it did yeah that was cruel. But I took consolation in the fact that Mark Robbins was on the end of it.

  6. Look at the teams around us in the top 7 even if we had reduced the budget by 20% we would still have a top 7 budget this season I don't think we will drop it by that much. We are going to lose the efl money yes but the mothballing of the academy will offset alot of that. So I don't think we are going to see a drastic drop in the actual budget it will be very competitive for this level.

It's a simplistic view that our supposedly qualified recruitment department adopted earlier this season.

As many strikers as possible = more goals.

Exactly why oh why oh do we employ people when we've got ready made tactical wizards sat in the stands who could tell us all we need to know

Shouting "you should stick a striker on to try and win" during another completely inept performance doesn't justify being told to "fuck off", in my opinion.  That's criticism shouted, not abuse.

I'm tempted to agree that telling people with such a simplistic view of football too F-off is a valid response.

Tell you what I'd never thought of sticking a striker on thanks for the insight.

I wonder what pearls of wisdom came out of this person's mouth.

Very true, and IMO a big factor in why this season has turned to shit. We have to many players which can’t take criticism.  A manager who continued to support the players publicly (in that I include to the media as well as in the open changing room) while challenging them to improve privately, MAY have done better in keeping them from downing tools as they have done this last couple of months.

Imagine the comments on this forum though, if the manager had continued to spout generic meaningless post match interviews.

So we mostly agree we NEED a new squad, but we can’t have one next year. So do we change the manager and hope the next one can stay friends with them all, or do we back the manager for another whole season and probably starting the next season (with his own players)?  A dilemma!

It always amazes me that people pay much attention to the post match interviews I mean we've gone what 1 win in 14? Whatever he says in the post match isn't going to change that. He's got to go back in the dressing room and lift the players after that because some of them(quite a few of them in our case) he will need next season so he's got to be careful about throwing them under the bus but he can't turn round and say everything is amazing because clearly it isn't and the fans will thi k he's taking the piss out of them.

Absolutely. 3 more yrs min in this league. Next season will be mid table shite again for sure.

crowds of sub 4K being the norm.

well done Darren and the board. You fucked it.

Let's just see what happens in the summer first their is a very good chance we could be much stronger come Aug 24 but it will probably take longer to get it to exactly where we want it to be.

Don't write off next season just yet.

Very much so, Glossop.  I've said the same before.  We can't undo the damage in one window due to the contracts situation and budget constraints

Yes. It doesn't mean that we can't or won't challenge I think we will challenge for promotion next season but interms of getting all the wastage out of the squad and getting it to where we want to be it will take us atleast another 12 months, but I do believe the team we have can and probably will look very different come August it will be unrecognisable by Aug 25.

Only problem with that is this, a couple were due to go out permanently in January for no fee but they couldn't agree wages with their new clubs. Both were offered wages about a third of what we are paying, there is absolutely no chance those Mellon wants out are going anywhere unless the board want to pay out about 500k to get them off the books, it simply isn't going to happen.

No it's not going to be easy your right getting them off the books and it won't be as simple as them going somewhereelse for a third of the pay or us paying them up in full. I'm hoping their appetite to move will have changed after 4 months of idle time.

If as in a hypothetical scenario like you suggest we have someone on £900 a week and we have someone come in and offer £300 a week then maybe it would be best if we say you can go we pay them £600 a week for the next 12 months with the proviso that they can't play against us then that might be a deal we have to take save £300 a week and get an unproductive player out the door. It's those types of things we might have to consider.

If you do that for 4 players you can save enough for 1 player who might male a big difference to us.

  13. I think I'd be more worried if he tried to dress it up as being better than it is. The first stage of solving a problem is admitting their is a problem he can see what we see he's not blind or stupid.

John Sheridan was hardly inspiring in interviews he was often blunt and to the point and was always very honest if he'd been in charge he'd probably have given the same kind of interview.

A pretty clear message sent to the board to help him shift the deadwood and some of the players not able to get into the team to find new clubs. The likes of Ward Reid and Shelton have been sat on the arse doing rock all for the last 5  months or so find yourself a new club lads it will do knowone any favours sitting around collecting a wage least of all the players themselves find a new club boys it's for the best.

  14. We sack a manager now we will just repeat the same cycle over and over and over again.

Although if he offers Mcgahey a new contract he can go. We have too many old immobile men in the team and if I was the board I'd ne pushing back against adding more over 30's in this team who will just get out run.

I mean I wouldn't go that far and hope you don't either. But still even with alot of poor performances this season we still weren't that far away from getting in the play offs I mean turn 3 defeats into 3 wins and we'd be there and there would still have been plenty of games where we shit the bed. It's tough getting out of this league no doubt about it but it's far from impossible, certainly not in our situation.

  16. I mean he stays for me but fuck me their is a big job to do this summer it doesn't need repeating how bad its been in the last quarter of the season  but if they don't get it right Mellon will come under pressure very quickly. It might be the biggest summer of his career.

We finish 8 points outside the play offs all we had to do to finish inside them was to beat Fylde, Wealdstone and Kidderminster at home and that would have been enough are all those teams part time?

Let them clear off to to the European League they will eventually be in.

The European super league was one big power play by the big clubs to get more from UEFA they've got an expanded champions league. The cost of which appears to be degrade further the FA Cup

Premier league teams want to reduce the number of fixtures that don’t make them money so they can increase the number that do. It’s not about anything other than that.

I realise that but it doesn't mean it's beneficial for the game as a whole and it's certainly no benefit to us.
