  1. What type of bloody gesture was it? Christ alive. Did he moon? Wave his todger at you? Start slipping Reuben a length with a smug grin on his face?

It seems to be the 'in' thing to bag on Abbott for some reason. It's a bit odd.

I thought the fans were OK towards Abbott until he made a point of turning round on his way back to the halfway line and giving it the big un after they scored. Unnecessary, especially as he must have known with half time coming up it was almost time for him to fade away.

  2. Steve Claridge is without doubt the most useless pundit on television. Almost every other thing he says is utter tosh and he struggles to string comprehensible sentences together. I'd rather Leroy Rosenior was on every week, and he's not much cop either.

I emailed this to Lizzie at the BBC but she didn't read it out for some reason

+1. With Crooks and Mark Bright joint second.

  3. That catchy little headline is how the "Oldham" Advertiser chose to preface the non-story of Lee Hughes' altercation with Alan Hardy on Saturday.

Tucked out of harms way on page 6 surrounded by adverts for people interested in a career brushing down horses and the like, the article is so unbelievably poor on so many levels as to be embarrasing.

Amazingly enough it took 2 (two) 'reporters' to pen this drivel. One to read it out loud slowly and the other to type it no doubt.

"It is understood Hughes...became angry after Latics beat County 3-0" wow well that explains it. Cutting edge journalism there boys, were the other ten Notts County players happy about the defeat then?

"It was the first time Hughes had played at Oldham since the team got rid of him last season." Seriously. Is this a deliberate policy of dumbing down to the perceived thicko residents of Oldham by the advertiser or are the journos just crap? I've answered my own question. Don't bother applying for the vacant foootball reporter job with The Observer guys :)

More worryingly though why run this at all ? It's a nothing story already covered by the Chron and various websites who gave it two lines tops. Contrast that to the Advertiser where Scoops Thompson and Keegan squeezed 500 words out of it. Shamefully they didn't come up with a single piece of insight into why the incident took place. All the article succeeds in doing is re-hashing old news and gossip, 10 minutes on google would have brought the same result. Investigative journalism at its best.

The worst thing though is that immiediately above the Hughes drivel, a story warning vulnerable pensioners of a particularly nasty scam doing the rounds in the town is bumped to the top of the page in a font so small most pensioners probably won't even be able to read it. Fortunately they'l be able to console themselves that two of the Advertiser's finest have after what must have been, ooh, minutes delving into the facts/ searching the internet, established Lee Hughes grabbed Alan Hardy by the throat in the players tunnel last Saturday.

If there's a bigger waste of paper than this rag i'd love to know. You can't even wipe your a**e on it.

Hank - that is the story that went in the M.E.N. (ahead of anyone else) on Monday. It's clearly then been picked up by The Advertiser. You're entitled to your opinion but suggesting it was a google re-hash is wrong and, to be honest, smacks of lazy posting.

  4. Ahhh, so this isn't the first time he's come on here spouting bollocks because someone has a difference in opinion? I'm guessing his favourite subject is Cinema then judging by the 'fighting the good fight of cinema' comment?

My God Tulsehill, you do need to get out more!

Saw Shutter Island for the first time on Sat. Miles better.

  5. Like the £200k apiece for mini-Philli and the other lad whose name escapes me, (Spencer?), and the £250 for Eardley? Plus whatever we could have chosen to take for Taylor if we had sold when he was on fire, and the money we taxed from Wolfy's paper round?

I'd be negotiating a commission element to my contract if I was him. Unless he has already..

  6. Strangely throughout I was thinking of a red dwarf episode myself. Terrorform, where they go into Rimmers mind and fight his demons.

Three hours of my life I can't get back. Shyte. No human touch, no plotline, no feeling for any of the characters.

Purely and simply a film for geeks. Fair play though - the audience they have aimed it a will probably go back and see it four times cos it beats sitting in front of a computer all day and talking to your imaginary friends.

  7. For those of you who don't know RA, I can confirm that he is a real (no not you Real) and "special" person.

I actually sat next to him at the Trust Forum last Thursday and I can honestly say that if you met him you would be totally amazed as he is nothing like he appears on here.

The lad is genuine. His spoken english is good (and he is exceptionally polite), but as with a lot of people with learning "issues" the written form of the language isn't.

It took me a while to get his jist and even now at times it's not easy.People who have not met him, need to have patience with his posts and try just a little bit harder to give him, shall we say, the benfit of the doubt.

Like Mr Sinnott said you need to be careful in the circumstances. My daughter teaches at a "special" school and through visiting the school for the events they hold, I have come to understand their needs a lot better.

I'd just ask that you all show a little more tolerance.

He's not the older chap who asked Dickov what effect the styles of football in display in the World Cup final would have on Latics is he?
