  1. This is what pisses me off. The Saints board have sacked far better managers than Brian because they didn't like their attitude or because of off-the-field stuff. Apparently they'd rather have a dull, inept manager who keeps his nose clean. Personally i wouldn't care if the manager snorted coke and f**ked goats if he instilled some confidence and fight into the team and got them playing attacking rugby.

Another good win for the Roughyeds down in South Wales today. Great start to the season.

  2. I appear to be leaving the country at some point next weekend. Now, I am allowed to fly home once a month, so it makes sense to plan this around the end of the season. I haven't done Yeovil and I dare say it will be an awesome session, but then if we need somehing out of the last game I will be going spare if I'm not at it. What should I do???

    Where's the stay abroad option?

  3. Actually no, however I feel positive about the performance if its right what's been reported an I orginally said we would lose 2-1. the one would have been nice to give those fans something to scream about who went.

Story of our season eh Ernie, no luck in front of them pegs at all.....curse you the footy god of Wins.

Sat we must win - its a gotta be...no pressure then...tut

The story of our season is not 'no luck in front of goal'.

  4. For what it is worth here are my views.

1, Look at the target audience - Primarily men who have their better days behind them and have no interest in jokey radio breakfast show type banta oi oi!!

2, The "music played at Boundary Park has been supplied by hmv" - can we please dip in to the bargain bucket and get something with a tune rather than insipid modern pop rubbish? Inspiral Carpets - This is How it Feels was a welcome addition to the playlist on Saturday and by jingo a few of them are from Oldham too! Was also good to hear Dominos by The Big Pink - Velvet is a better track though but Dominos is a step in the right direction. I don't see many people dressed like Lady Gaga at Boundary Park but I see a lot of people who are probably into boys with guitars, at the end of the day it is only background music but Rochdale manage to get it right. Indie and rock classics, a bit of Madchester and maybe even the odd new one by some young lads with daft haircuts but have managed to write a tune that makes you tap your foot when you're one nil up at half time.

3, A few of the people in the ground have a passing interest in sport, some even like football so score updates are a must.

4, Never, ever play the "Let's get ready to grumble" clip at the start of the second half again.

5, If we are the 12th man god help the other 11. Encouraging us to make some noise for our boys seems to have the adverse effect and is very 90s.

6, Do not let that woman from the Christie near a microphone again. Ever.

7, If one of the Latics legends comes out to do the half time draw it would be good to spend a bit of time asking him a few questions beyond what is currently asked. What are his favourite memories of his time spent here? Favourite games or any funny stories would kill a bit of time at half time.

8, Kids taking penalties at half time is always worth a watch.

9, Mouldy Old Dough has to played at some point.

10, Could get some of the youth team on the pitch doing keepie-uppies or ball skills. Maradona used to do this as a kid, we could even open it up so that if local kids want to do it they get 5 mins on the pitch or so.. might even unearth a bit of talent this way?

I agree with every single one of these points. And I think Broady is the man for the job.

  5. Regardless of any of that if people can't see the positives of an 11 year old kid that was feared to be in serious bother being found safe and well then they're thick, People perception of the bigger picture's irrelevant

I think there's a bit of an overreaction on here about this. I'd be amazed if anything untoward was chanted, or shouted out.

As LL says - this is the first feelgood story about Oldham in years and fair play to the club for trying to get in on it.

If the kid turns up (sorry) I'd fully expect a standing ovation. Especially if we get him in a Latics shirt.

Personally, I'd have him leading the team out.

  6. Like the most fickle of football fans, I’ve changed my mind about getting rid of Dave Penney.

I'm actually starting to see a few positives in Penney's work here. While Latics teams under say Sheridan would go and get a result at places like Elland Road, the same side would then more than likely go and lose a game like tonight’s. We seem to be picking up points in games where we "should" be doing so under Penney. If we go on a bit of a run now and get a few wins from the remaining games, I'd go as far as saying Penney might have cracked the "all we need to do is turn up" attitude that have spoiled past seasons.

If Penney can build a decent squad over the summer and believe his teams can go and have a go at the likes of Leeds and Norwich , who knows? Maybe we've made the right appointment!

Yeah, screw winning at Elland Road and Goodison. Let's win at Stockport, in a match I (and many, many others) didn't go to because this season's 'new attitude' has given us negative, uninspring, will-to-live sapping, absolute dross week after week.

I hope I am wrong, but in the long term this could be a disastrous result for Oldham Athletic.

  7. I got around to seeing The Hurt Locker last night - was it just me that thought it was without any sort of soul or depth at all?

It's full of plot holes as well, suddenly they'll be in the right place at the right time with all the correct intel time and time again. There's a distraction about "Specialist" and a Colonel who appears to be some sort of Army shrink, I couldn't fathom out why those conversations where not left on the cutting room floor as they added zero to the films plot or pace.

Don't get me wrong, I like a good modern war film - Jarhead was good, as was Black Hawk Down, Tears of the Sun had a decent plot and seemingly accurate contacts/firefights, Buffalo Soldiers was good in my opinion. Less war and more thriller? There's Munich, Kingdom, Syriana was okay and all of these films were better that The Hurt Locker.

    Perhaps it was just me.

You can tell who directed it within seconds of it starting. Despite being a bird Bigelow is very much into straight forward macho films. It's not bad, but it's not worthy of all the praise that's been lavished on it.

Watched Precious on the flight back from hols the other day. My word, there's a feel-good film.

  8. Ive been to Thailand twice now, Phuket both times, once with the lads once with the missus. I dont know where you are staying, but couple of restaurants worth visiting in Karon Beach are The Red Onion and the Bamboo Kitchen. The Red Onion is out of this world, but i would say go early about 18.30 - 19.00 because it gets very busy. People are often waiting outside just to get a table, maybe you could book for a certain time but not to sure. And dont let the plastic chairs and cheap tablecloths put you off we went there most nights, costs about £10 for 2 people, starters, mains and drinks. The Bamboo Kitchen was abit more expensive but the missus did have a Sea Bass! Very posh inside, nice water features stunning really. The food was good and i didnt know you could cook a fish so many different ways! Visit the Bar With No Name in Karon Beach. One of the owners is a good friend of mine from Royton. Only problem is he is Dirty Leeds fan but dont hold that against him he is a top lad and his Thai missus keeps him in check! Just look for the big fat bald fella at the end of the bar! All of the bars in Karon will have ladys of the night in them but if youre with the missus they wont bother you. A visit to Big Budda and Chalong Temple is well worth a look. Get a Tuk-Tuk to give you a price, but we did a trip with some other sites thrown in for about £15 - £20 each well worth it. The After Beach bar in Kata is a must. Go and watch the sun go down from the top of the mountain over looking the sea OUT OF THIS WORLD!! Again get a price of the Tuk Tuk guys but not expensive. If youre looking for a mad one then head for Patong. Lots and lots of bars, again no hassle if youre with the missus. Head for the Kangaroo bar abit small but always mental and good for people watching. Patong is the main place for shopping, with some big shopping centres and markets so the missus will be happy!

Hope you have a good one!

Its made me really want to go again now!

Vijitt Resort mate. Bang on this - thanks a lot.

  9. Off to Thailand on Thurs. One night Bangcok, three Phuket, three Krabi.

Going diving and on a couple of boat trips. Any suggestions for other stuff to do and decent restaurants much appreciated.

Going with missus so no ping pong ball shows pls..

And if anyone has read any decent autobiographies lately let me know. I got Ronnie Irani's and it looks crap.

  10. So there are 2,600 season tickets at the moment (based on figures from the uninformed on this board  ).

    Let's say it's £320 a pop. That's £832,000 of income this season.

If TTA place a bet (or take out an insurance policy) at odds of 6/1 then a stake (or premium) of £119,000 will return £833,000 if England win the World Cup.

So £119,000 divided by £320 = an increase of 372 sales needed to make the scheme break even.

I think it might just turn a profit - and we should all get behind it (and force those lapsed-fan friends to start saving now).
