  1. Am I the only one who thinks that goal scoring is once again going to be a big problem for us this season? Erwin's goal scoring record isn't great, neither is Cassidy's. I have no issue with McKays record although obviously he hasn't opened his account for us yet despite having a better pre-season build up than the other strikers. Flynn will hopefully pop a few in from midfield but unless we can find a striker who knows how to stick the ball in the back of the net then I can't see us winning many games. I think Ryan Lowe would have been a good option despite his age. What does anybody else think?
  2. The club makes no reference to him rejecting wage or budget terms as far as I can see. He's obviously got other clubs sniffing around. Latics have probably offered him the bare minimum that he'd work for and his advisors or agent have told him to hang on for a better offer, you can't blame him for that, even though it's extremely frustrating for the club.
  3. Yawn ........ It's been nothing but dull moments! I'm so bored with this now. Why are the club so insular? There's little or no communication from the club to the fans. I don't just mean with the 'manager' situation. It seems that everytime one of our better players or prospects is sold all we are told is an 'undisclosed fee'. There's nothing to get the fans excited, no consolation of seeing that at least we got a decent fee in order to soften the blow. The treatment of the fans is very very poor. I definitely think that there is something very wrong at the club. Why would a manager like John Sheridan who has got a lot of affection for the club, sign a rwo and a half year deal, suddenly leave after 4 and a half months to join a club in a division below after finishing the season on such a high?? Rant over!
  4. I think Grant Holt would be a potentially good signing provided that Shez and Shirtliff can get the best out of him. A lot would depend on his wage expectations but more importantly for us whether or not his motivation is still there. I'd much rather give him a chance rather than have Higdon back though. The JCH link is an interesting one but I don't see the attraction to him of a League One relegation battle, same applies to Matt Smith.
  5. In my opinion all of this fiasco started with the appointment of Darren Kelly. This season should have been one of optimism with the new stand. Instead that was a PR disaster. Plus if I was the owner of a club like Latics I would be thinking that with the cost of the new stand we could NOT contemplate relegation this season of all seasons, surely a safe experienced manager should have been the choice, but who did we get? A guy who had coached the Sunderland youth team, with predictable results. Once he had gone Corney then went for a senior player and that also hasn't worked out. I still think that Dunn has been a little hard done to because he hasn't even had a transfer window to improve his squad. I actually thought he would have been a great addition as a player for us but even that can't happen now. It looks like it's going to be Sheridan and it seems like he's a popular choice on here, but be careful what you wish for. Don't forget that he lost control of the players - Lee Hughes in particular - when they acted like idiots at Belle Vue. It's thought that Dunn had lost the dressing room. It remains to be seen if Sheridan can get anything more out of the players if indeed he is to be the new manager.

  7. It's all about opinions but Higdon won't do for me. Apart from Gillingham away I never saw him have a good game, and I could count the number of headers he won on one hand. I'm not saying that Cassidy will be the answer ultimately but he's young and still learning. Higdon was supposed to bring experience and know-how but he just looked lazy to me.
  8. You mean the 6ft 3ins centre forward who hardly ever wins a header because he refuses to jump. No thanks.
  9. Read all of my post and understand it, then comment on it rather than just quoting the first line! ?
  10. The players mentioned may not have been rated particularly highly by some of the fans but they would surely make a massive difference if they were in this current team. I find it depressing that the 'undisclosed sums' don't seem to find their way into replacing the players sold, hence my point about Daniel Johnson. There were varying reports surrounding the fees for Tarkowski, Clarke-Harris and Korey Smith, but £150,000 for each of them wouldn't have been far off the mark yet we couldn't find £50,000 for a player who is holding down a place and thriving in Preston's team in a division above. No investment = No ambition = Poor team, which is exactly what we've got at the moment.
  11. Yes I have, but the team was rubbish under Kelly, and there was some dross served up by Johnson as well before he left. The club cannot recruit any real quality and the manager is left to carry the can. If you fill your team with a combination of players who can't get into their own League One or League Two teams, plus loanees who are only here to get fit or to get a game every week then you'll end up with a very mediocre under-achieving team which is exactly what we've got. I'm not sure that Dunn or anyone else can be expected to do much with them. Not long ago we had Tarkowski, Clark-Harris, Korey Smith, Jose Baxter, Matt Smith. Where is the investment on the pitch from those sales? Preston bought Daniel Johnson for £50k, we couldn't even afford that despite receiving 'undisclosed fees' for Tarky and Clark-Harris and Smith.
  12. I can't really understand all the negativity surrounding Dunn. Let's be honest Latics have dallied with relegation in recent seasons under both Johnson and Dickov so although it would be hugely disappointing to go down none of us should be massively surprised. Dunn is a rookie manager so yes there is an argument that an experienced manager would have been a better option once Kelly had gone. Phil Brown would have been my choice, but I think we should stick with Dunn even if we go down. He's having to work with previous managers players, loanees who have no affinity with the club and also seeing his potentially better players sold for very little (ie Philliskirk). There's no doubt that some players are letting him down and some are just not good enough. Give him the opportunity to build his own team before you hang him out to dry. If we go down we go down, but even an experienced manager may not be able to save us. Give him a chance!!

  14. I saw Gregan and the Millwall player grappling and then both went down together and the ball was cleared. I carried on watching the two players and as they got up the Millwall player had a sly kick at Gregan who reacted by pushing him at the top of his shoulders. Brill and Gregan then shouted over to the linesman to ask if he'd seen the kick by the Millwall player, it was only then that he flagged. I think thats why Gregan couldn't believe it when the ref was booking him and he was obviously realising that a penalty was going to be given. The only explanation that i can think of is that the linesman only saw Gregans retaliation and didnt see the original kick by the Millwall player.
  15. I think its a 'confidence' thing with the players. Nobody seems to know what to do when they gat the ball. If it isn't a confidence problem then its a case of there not being enough quality in the side. Can't understand why managers are so reluctant to make substitutions though!!! We have two young strikers on the bench who are scoring regularly in the reserves and the youth team. He brings one on with 15 minutes to go and the other one with 5 minutes to go and expects them to make an impact. They should both have been on for the last 30 minutes. We never looked like scoring in the second half. Parker was totally ineffective, Abbott and Taylor don't look fit so why not change things earlier when we are already behind? What is there to lose? Take a chance Penney it might just save your job!!!!
