  1. I personally think that the club should adopt a plan for the future .

All kids under 6 FREE when entering with a Full paying adult !

The kids are the ones that the club have to get into the habit of wanting to watch Oldham Athletic .

£20 for an adult and 2 kids is a lot more attractive than £40 for the same in the Chaddy end !

Oldham as a town is in dire need of regenerating commercially, sporting and economically.

For me its simple maths and thats what sales is - £19.99 is a lot more of an attractive price than £20.

The price needs to be lowered that is obvious to everyone, but how do you raise the lost income ?

TTA missed out on a ideal opportunity to try a Season Ticket incentive this season !

We did well with the Cup Run last year and along with the sale Of Neal we must have made £600 k plus. We didnt spend a bean of that on players only using some of it to bring down the NSM stand !

I understand your logic here but the £500,000 was used to offset losses that we had already incurred!!

Personally if I was one of TTA I would of offset £500 k against the Season ticket revenue.

So if 3000 season tickets made for example £900, 000, I would have used the £500 k and sold the ST a lot lower knowing that £500k was already in the bank.

I know better than most how much Blitz spends on the club each day, each week every month, but in order for the club to survive its the fans of tomorrow not us today that will ensure the club continues to grow.

TTA are frustrated with the attendances we get and how we manage to fill BP when they give free games or £2 games which I can understand. We need to lower the price of the gates that is obvious - £15 a game is I would say would be fair !

  2. On the assumption that it makes more than it costs, yes.

What sort of presence did you have in mind?

Hughsey in Primark's window up to 1.30pm on matchday?

Why not have a presence in Morrisons, Azda, or Tesco's...every single family makes at least one trip a week to the local supermarket. If the outlet ties ticket offers into selected products or customers spend then it may cost the club little or nothing at all!!

  3. This bothers me very little, it's a way of the world for small clubs to sell a player to cover costs, how much trouble would we have been in if Trotters had stayed?

It's a fine balancing act though isn't it...picking the right time to sell and I don't think it's the right time after only 2 home games. Scaremongering is not going to put extra bums on seats and Corney doesn't need to tell us the harsh truths every couple of months as I'm sure everyone is acutely aware of the economics.

If we get to December and there is no improvement then that is the time to recoup some money. I just feel it is another ill-timed knee jerk doom and gloom story of which Simon Corney seems to excel!!

If we're still in the top places at Christmas time then I'm sure everything will look after itself and renders this outburst as pointless...and if we're not then the fans will be expecting a Trotman type sale and I don't think the vast majority of fans will complain.

  4. I think you must have misread my post, because I did not refer to purchasing online. I said tickets could be bought over the phone.

Yes I take your point about people deciding at the last minute. However, take Saturdays attendance of around 4,500 home fans. 3,000 are season ticket holders which means 1,500 are pay on the day. There were only around 200 or so that bought before the day of the game meaning around 1,300 have paid on the day. Some of these are families which can mean savings of £4-£6 a time.

One of the points I was making is how many of these 1,300 are aware that they can save. money. If they are not aware, then they are not going to tell others who might be thinking of coming back. It really is a simple way of keeping the admission prices down and maybe, just maybe, enticing back some of the stayaways. At the same time I accept that there will always be those who make a last minute decision, I just can't accept that that is around 80% of none season ticket holders that do so.

    Cheers,

    Harry

Excuse my ignorance but why does it have to be £20 on the day...why can't it be £18.

  5. After the game, in the pub, I spoke to two Latics fans who no longer go. But they both said that there were thinking of going.

Asked why they didn't go.. the answer was the same. £20 = 10 pints of beer. Now, irrespective of habits, the simple fact is that for a working class town, £20 is too much for Third Division football.

Any answer has to involve incentives for supporters to come back to football and leave shopping/boozing/TV.

    Drop the price I say.

I can understand when Corney says the squad is not sustainable on crowds of under 5000 but you have to look at it over a full season. We are only 2 home games into the new season so I'm hopeful that the crowds will increase and IF we continue to produce results and entertain as we have so far then I'm optimistic our average come May will be nearer 7000.

We've had 15 or so years of absolute rubbish to contend with and I can understand people staying away. We are in the middle of a resession...people are losing their jobs...people are losing their homes...we have the worlds most famous club only 20minutes away and another premiership club even closer.

We have to earn our support and thus, it is unfortunately, totally related to our performances on the pitch...get that right and we have a fighting chance.

Through no fault of TTA we have a three sided stadium for the foreseable future with poor facilities.... TV Coverage of the premier league is at saturation point and it's £20 to get in to watch 3rd division football, people are going to choose which home games they attend.

Millwall and Cheltenham are really not games that would capture the imagination of the Oldham public are they?

I think we're 2 good results away from the start of an upturn in attendances...4 points from Colchester and Tranmere and we should get upwards of 6000 against M K Dons.

It's not going to happen overnight and like the Joe Royle era It's going to be a gradual increase over the course of the season and only if we continue to challenge.

    Sorry if that's doom and gloom but I'm being realistic...Aren't I ????

  6. I think you have about as much grasp as the rule as the stewards seem to have....

Of course I have a grasp of the rule so don't insult my intelligence, I hate sitting down as much as you do but the rules are not laid down by the club are they? It only needs 1 person to stand up for whatever reason and it spirals because people behind cannot see before you know it everybody's stood up.

Yes, the stewards maybe a bit over the top and perhaps should use a little more understanding but they have to be firm and be seen to be doing their job because some fans would stand up the whole time if they weren't challenged!!

Like I've said before there should be standing areas at all grounds and I don't understand how you can have a rule for football stadia that doesn't apply to Rugby etc.

However, seated areas are definitely not safe for standing, I've been pushed from behind on several occasions whilst stood up and only just managed to stay on my feet, the seats in front are below knee high and believe me if you fell over them you'd do yourself a major injury!

The rule isn't ideal but for the time being we, and more importantly the club, will have to abide by it until someone say's different.

  7. Many issues which will make me think twice when deciding to make my 400 mile round trip. I simple do not enjoy the games a BP because of the bloody Stewards ......... they are the WORST in the league by a country mile.

The treament of me personally in the Paddock last year some times ...... and what do I do wrong ..... have a passion for my club that sometimes leads me to stand up and sing. That warrants me being treated like a piece of :censored:!!! This as been going on for to long and the club will simply loose money because of this, money won't be there for players, we won't ever get out of this league ..... god forbid TTA leave!!!

All because of someone who enjoys his 90 minutes thinking he's important.

P.S not actually being there, but I would say the reaction of the stewards was not really an over reaction from the Millwall game .... they have always treated Latics fans badly as most were in the Paddock last year. millwall just gave them an excuse to be bigger prats

You can't have been to Tranmere then because they are the pits. I have every sympathy with what your saying as it's a long way to come and you want to enjoy the occasion but rules ..as daft as they seem have to be adhered to as if not the club could be punished. I must admit having to sit down for ninety minutes is a pain in the a*** but they're league rules and you have to abide by them.

I'm sure if clubs lobbied hard enough they could get Singing/standing allowed back in paddock areas!!

  8.

Funny coming on here and reading this :P

Me and my bro pritty much agreed we wont be back at BP in a long time after today... Some of the stewarding / policing was awful... Saw a friend get kicked out for standing...he was sat down and only stood up when we got a corner... Drum got removed... I asked a steward why and he said quote..."im not at libity to say" :D awesome PR... I deared to look over at the cheltnham fans and a steward said to me "games that way mate...look over there".... nice... And I spent about 95% of the game attempting to sit down and pritty much everytime I did stand I was asked to sit down agressivly...even when the pace of the game allowed standing (corners etc)...

Going to flip it and start going away games and not home games and give my support to the lads there... At least you expect :censored:e treatment from your hosts when your away although I dont seem to have a problem away from home.... Its a shame my money wont be going towards the club any more but im clearly not the sort they want and they have tons of families happy to take my place....

Put a really downer on my day.... Pritty angry about it all and todays been a waste of £20 for me....

That's going to do the club a world of good and if everybody thought that way we'd have no football club at all. I think all the hype surrounding the Millwall game has got people including the Stewards over reacting.

If you complain enough the club will listen, as the last thing they want is to alienate their fans!!

It will all settle down in a few weeks just give it a bit of time...if your not happy in the RRE get in the Chaddy but for god's don't desert the club as it needs your support now more than ever!!!

  9. Agree with most of what you say, apart from the fact Hughesy is simply a 'predator' he is far more than that, a predator doesnt link the play like he does, or do as much unoticed running to create space for others, or chase lost causes.... Hughesy is absolutely the complete striker at this level... to class him as a predator is a massive disservice...

Hughesy is our best player - he showed that today, and he is getting better, we are very lucky to have him... but so many teams at our level will have one star player they rely on and are screwed if they lose him.... even leeds with beckford...

The difference is this season we have got players who can come in - i disagree our bench cant cut it - up front we are stronger than I can ever remember... with O'Grady rearing to go, and dont forget our supposed superstar davies... with Smalley, wolfy and willams as back up that is stronger than I can remember, and have confidence in them to step in if needed.

No doubt though - Hughes is the absolute main man.... he can fire us up singlehandedly in this form.... and am very glad he is in our team.

Didn't say that he was just a predator and yes there is so much more to his game but a penalty box predator he most certainly is!!!!

  10. 4600 is bobbins

Yes it is, but we've flattered to decieve before and we've got to produce a sustained period of form to get the fans back...we've had a great start but that's all it is and we could come crashing down just as quickly.

If we can continue to play like this and keep picking up victories then I'm sure crowds will improve!!!

  11. excellent result today but one thing has crossed my mind;do you think we are becoming a one man team?(i.e. Hughesy.)

Against millwall we struggled till he came on,Leeds he created both goals and today a hat trick.

I know its only early on in the season and I dont want to be a downer but sooner or later(sooner being most probable) hes going to be out injured.I cant see our forwards filling his boots at the present time.

We know Hughesy is essential to our promotion hopes, he's a penalty box predator and most teams will only have one like that if they're lucky.

If he gets injured then the guys warming their arses on the bench will just have to come in and do the business that's why we have a strong squad.

I'm confident that O'Grady and Davies will take their chance when it comes. Remember O'Grady is still finding his feet in this league and Davies...well we know what he can do if he applies himself.

My only fear is that a club might come in with a silly offer for Hughes in the next few days and unfortunately every player at this club has his price, if we can keep him beyond the transfer window then we'll be OK, and then it's a case of still being in the promotion places in January!

I'd also like to think that if we can continue this form over the next month or so then slowly the missing supporters will be enticed back because it will be impossible to keep this side together on crowds under 5K!!!

  12. hughsey,s got a year to run,i think we should offer him another 2 yrs now,hes am ace for us willlll always score goooooooooooooooalsssssss

I think he want's a stab at the championship next year and if we don't go up I think he will probably go! Can't really blame him as he will want to maximise his earnings in the few years he has left.

If we are looking good for promotion around December time I think the club will attempt to tie him to a new deal.

If he can stay fit this season he'll be a very important player for us and could make all the difference to our chances.

  13. god awful kit. Whats with the black behind the sponser???

Looks like a pub team kit and the collars on both are gash -= i dunno what i was expecting but its really annoyed me that kit im sick of us having crap kits. Yellow away, the last carlotti home, the new away all awful

o well weere going up so i shouldnt really moan

What's all the fuss about, It's not too bad at all ..... they could wear bloody pyjamas for me as long as we are promoted and the sponsor's money keeps rolling in I couldn't give a toss!!!!

  14. Hopefully most of you are aware of Teamcard?

The club are looking to expand the current usage of the card and hopefully adding to the existing retailers, thereby making it easier for us all to gather points to redeem against ticket (inc season ticket) purchases/merchandise purchase. At the same time, it gives the club an important source of revenue to help push plans forward.

First stage is they are looking to invite a number of additional retailers (shops/pubs/restaurants etc...) to join the scheme from the local area (by which I include Oldham, Ashton, Tameside, Manchester etc). And for exiles, any further afield?

So they are asking for our suggestions of retailers that we would like to see in the scheme?

A full list of existing retailers, including Ebay, iTunes and local ones like The Queens, and The White Hart,Lydgate is at Teamcard website or full details on the official site Latics Teamcard

Please also feel free to PM me suggestions if you prefer. And if any of you have your own businesses and are interested in finding out more, let me know.

Excuse my ignorance but is teamcard distibuted to season ticket holders only?

  15. I reckon if he steps out of line again he may be on his way...he came here with a bad reputation and he's not done to much to change?

I just don't think he will improve that much and think pretty much what you see is what you get!

Let's face it if he had a brain he'd be in the championship now or higher!

  16. I'm quite shocked at the reaction to that draw. I wasn't expecting any wow factor but I don't think it's too bad.

We aren't going to win the Carling Cup and so we all know that for clubs at our level it's about hoping to make some money and get a glamour day out for the players and fans.

Well frankly I don't think you're going to get that from any of the sides that enter at this stage. You've got to get to Round 3 before opponents of that ilk are in the hat so for me the first 2 rounds are all about just getting through, other than that there is little or nothing to gain from them.

The seeding system meant we were always going to be 2nd favourites whoever we played so on that basis I'd much rather play Burnley than some mid table moderately supported Premiership side with no glamour factor that we'd have even less chance of beating and still wouldn't make any money out of.

Of course Burnley are more likely to win but I'd say this one is more winnable than most of the potential ties we could have got thanks to the seeding. Despite what the scoreline would suggest I thought we were very unlucky to lose there last year.

Plus it's local which is handy on a week night and I thought the atmosphere in our end at Turf Moor last season was absolutely fantastic.

All things considered I'm relatively pleased with the draw.

I'm with you on this.....We knew we would be away from the pre-draw so a localish NW derby is OK with me and we have a reasonable chance of progressing to the third round.

We were seeded to get a premier or championship club so all in all it's a game we can go to after work without any disruption. Even if we'd drawn Bolton or Blackburn I don't think 10,000+ would have been achievable and the real money will be earned in the later rounds if we can get through...Not a bad draw and could have been a lot worse!!!

  17. I've been watching Latics since the early sixties and although I couldn't attend on Saturday I can imagine what it was like in the RRE.

The language arguement just doesn't wash as it was just as bad 40years ago...it's was a working mans pastime in those days and that was when you didn't swear in front of women and children.

I still don't swear if families are around but it's a fact that society has changed and right or wrong swearing is now common place. At the end of the day they are only words and you would struggle to find any parts of the ground that are free from swearing.

You can protect your children all you want but at the end of the day when they are older they may or may not be offended by it and will decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong.

As has been said the visit of Millwall is not the best opening game for obvious reasons but for god's sake why would you take your young children to watch football sat so close to the away supporters.

If you were genuinely offended by bad language then you wouldn't go to another football match in your life!!!!!!!

  18. This has been done to death now but Davies is a prat!!

We've had a complete close season for the coaching staff to work on him and by the looks of things he hasn't listened to a word they've said, I think he's the most frustrating player I've ever seen at Boundary Park.

Long term I can't see how a Hughes Davies partnership is going to produce the goods. Davies's positioning play is very poor, and he hasn't got the necessary upstairs to make a decent striker. I'd much rather see Allesandra or O'Grady alongside Hughes.

The only position I would play Davies in is as a lone striker ala 4-5-1 as he seems to play by himself most of the time anyway!!!!

  19. I agree with you...but the way some people are reacting, anyone would think he is a bad player.

He's not a bad player and has all the attributes but I wish he'd play to his strengths. He really thinks that he can just stroll around with the minimum of effort, he hardly makes any runs while Hughesy's all over the place.

He's a shadow of the player we signed last season......Big improvement needed!!!!
