  1. Oh deary, deary me.....seriously? Nah, utter rubbish.

They're paid to get results.....sadly, they're not doing that either....so it's not good, but I'll watch 46 :censored: games but win promotion than be entertained and lose. Don't get me wrong, I'd love us to be entertaining and to be flying at the top of the lot......but entertainment comes 2nd every time to results in this game I'm afraid. No matter what it costs to come through the gates and endure what happens on the pitch....when we beat Colchester 1-0 under Moore 2yrs ago, I'd witnessed the dullest game in the history of BP (ok, slight exagerration maybe) and a player I utterly disliked scored the winner in injury time (Butcher)......did I leave feeling empty? Did I hellaslike....I was over the moon! Sadly, I was one of few! Most just whined how it didn't feel like a win....pathetic I thought!

Where we are....at this level....I don't need it to be entertaining as I simply want us to succeed at all costs....boring or not! I just wish more were like that....

There are too many distractions other than football and I'm sorry but in general at £20 a time people will stop going to matches if they are not entertained. In these days of SKY live armchair football winning at all costs is simply not enough to get bums on seats.

Your always going to get the diehards like us, who turn up week in week out but to get success at a club you need to entertain and at home this season we just ain't doing it!

We all have opinions but the reason we've averaged 5,800 instead of 7,000 is solely down to boring, predictable, football, producing 2 wins and only 9 goals!!

  2. The only Latics "related" i have seen today is The Richards saga "Again" in the NOTW , he wants £75K @week Citeh only offering £50K @week...... :blahblah:

Newcastle and Chelski waiting with bids of £25M. :blahblah:

    :blahblah: .....................

That tells you all that is wrong with football today. A 19year old and not happy with £50k a bleeding week. That's more than most of us earn in 2 years!!!!!!!

  3. Keep:

    Trotman

    Stam

    Hughes

    Allott

    Sell:

    Eardley

    Taylor

    Loan out:

    Wolfy

    Allesandra

    Smalley

    Release:

    McDonald

    Kalala

    Thompson

    Gregan

Liddell (although I wish we had Liddell yesterday)

    Unsure:

    Davies

    Hazell

    Pogs

    Crossley

    Lomax

That's okay but you're talking about getting shut of about 10 players for 1 reason or another, we're already a couple short without Bertrand and Kilkenny thats 12.

That amounts to wholesale changes yet again in a close season. You would be virtually starting again plus there are 5 your not sure about!!!!!

To keep changing the players like that does nothing for the club or the fans. We have the nucleus of a good side so we need to get 2 or 3 out and maybe sign 4 or 5 but please no more!!!!

  4. yeah your right there mate - forgot about them hangers on

It's all right saying forget about them but we need the extra support and a good performance today may have encouraged a few to come back on tuesday. We ain't goin to get crowds back at Boundary Park playing like we did today...We were bloody clueless!!!!

  5. It's not long since he signed a contract extension. I fully expect him to be off in the Summer but I reckon it would take a big bid to shift him now. It doesn't look like Shez fancies Lomax that much so we aren't as well covered in defence as it looks on paper.

This isn't a suprise and the club will almost certainly have been expecting bids in the window.

If we have a saleable asset in our squad who would command a sizeable fee then the exit of Eardley is probably the one we could cope with best.

I think you have to be looking at upwards of £750,000 for a club captain and full Welsh international. He looked very good against Everton in the cup and think he would be a very good buy for the right club.

Mcdonald, Hazell and Lomax can all cover that position. We would need another left back but have Black as cover and Gregan, and Thompson to return from injury.

The money received would help us compete in the window to attract the the players Shez has targeted.

  6. Anyone fancy one of these big centre forwards at Latics, none it seems are catching their respective first teams at the moment ?

    Kim Christensen

    Enoch Showunmi

    Mark Mc Cammon

Shuwumni would be the best option but no way will Johnson let him go, and I don't really fancy the other two as the lad from Barnsley is a bit of an unknown quantity and McCammon with 27goals in 10 seasons hardly demands respect!!

Shez will have his targets but if they're beyond our budget then so be it....No point in panic buys that are no better than we already have so I say leave it till the end of the season and have a real go next time!!! KTF.

  7. after 22 mins and misses the cup game. so who do we play up front.????????????????????? better sign a striker.

Why was he booked...I hope it wasn't dissent beacause in his situation that's plain stupidity and Shez should fine him.

I may be wrong but does anybody think that a little nastiness is slowly creeping into his game?

  8. It was the supposedly the Luke Beckett deal in the summer of '05, we then changed manager and Shez wasn't interested and our first optionon him was allowed to lapse.

Onto a wider point, Shez in my opinion again will show his naiviety in this window, yes he has his targets but does he have a plan b? In Summer 2006 (and January last year) he didn't and we ended up with panic loan signing that had already been deemed not good enough during his trial period. He wasn't interested in Beckett but him and Porter looked good together under Moore and during Porters barren/injured spell last season as well as Warne failing to look like scoring from February onwards Beckett may have been the man that would have cemented our place in the top two. Just a thought and hindsight is a wonderful thing. But Shez let us down big time in the window last season and this time it is looking just as unfruitful with the same old negative comments coming out of the club.

Yes we don't want to put the club's future at risk but if money was available for Kilkenny why can't we push the boat out for someone else, I said at the time it will be interesting to see if that sort of money would be available for anyone else. Well we are two weeks further down the line and we still have a paper thin squad, decimated by injury and walking a suspension tight-rope. I'm sick of the same tired old excuses about players want this and that and we can't do this and we won't do that. That's why we've been a bag of crap for the last 14 years because we don't build on momentum, we sit back and let it unravel like last season. If you want to improve on what you have you have to pay for it simple as or we will forever tread water in this God forsaken league.

I'll tell you now, we will end up with a couple of kids from a Prem club that no-one's heard of who no doubt wll be decent enough quality but not the experience or calming influence this team needs.

Sorry for the rant, I know most of you won't agree butthat's just how I feel at the moment.

13 days to go, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick................

We would all like 2 or 3 players coming in to boost a play off bid but they have to be better than we already have and there's no point bringing in players just for the sake of it!!

Players have the upper hand in the January window and are most certainly waiting to see what's on offer before commiting.

Shez has the backing of TTA and if the right players are available within the budget and more importantly want to come and play for us then I'm sure we'll sign em.

We are all sick of this league and and this club needs a promotion to boost interest and attract a bigger fanbase but we have to be patient and when we do go up we have to have a squad capable of staying up!

Personally a more realistic aim would be to wait till the end of the season as we've got a good nucleus of players and with a few more signings we could have a great chance of automatic promotion next time.

  9. Ahhh well, you never said there were 'apart froms' and that! And a player sold is a player sold regardless of how old he is or how many games he's played.

I think things like the Bosman ruling has had a big say in it. Transfer window doesn't help either as by the time one comes round players that would have been sold like Porter for example would have gone for a decent wedge rather than through ropey loopholes.

When I start to think how unfair football has got for the smaller clubs because of money dictating things it just angers me. It has distanced me from watching so called 'Big Game Football' but it just makes it so many times harder for teams with small budgets and fanbases make a major impact with bigger fish. Colchester and Scunny are feeling the pinch and will probably come down whereas Blackpool won't be far behind them.

We will always be a selling club as the vast majority are....ie. everybody has a price, however we took a chance on Porter and paid out £150,000 so if he moves to another English club and we get nowt then that's just plain wrong.

We should get a percentage of any fee as he learned his trade here but was then picked up by Motherwell ( working the system ) for nowt!

He could now be sold for upwards of a million....that rule definitely wants looking at!!

As for Trotman...I think we should hold on to him as he's a major prospect, there's no guarantees but he's still only young and I think in a year's time his value could triple and looking at the queue of clubs interested now there would be plenty of takers.

I say only sell him if it suits us as we always seem to under value our players and it's about time we made some serious money for our talent!!!

  10. Let's stop all this nonsense about the moaners being to blame for poor performances.

I have watched Latics for 35 years and there have ALWAYS been moaners. Yesterday for 90 minutes I shouted nothing but encouragement to a team that looked like they thought they'd done their seasons work last week at Everton and couldn't be arsed to concentrate. Everyone has a right to moan about that shocking performance against 10 men.

Whilst I was shouting encouragement, who was the only person I could hear yelling abuse at the players? JOHN SHERIDAN that's who! He never once said anything positive, and at the end of the game I suddenly decided that maybe I might as well have just joined the moaners.

This morning I have read all sorts of ridiculous posts about the terraces being too open, the fans getting on the players backs, the shirts being the wrong colour and more, but the fact is that NOTHING has changed in the last 35 years. Everything is still the same apart from the fact we are now clutching at straws looking for excuses.

Quite simply, there was no motivation (God knows what was said at half time again), a team that to a man decided to go against JS' principles of playing simple football, and a forward who is that worried about possibly losing his place to Leon Clarke that he feels he has to score himself, when three assists would have made him a darn sight more popular.

On top of that, we have a terrible home record that is clearly preying on the players minds (And maybe needs to be addressed by a professional psychologist - not a football coach), another ineffectual substitution, and a mis informed notion on the part of some players that THEY are OAFC and not the fans.

I have seen all the highs and some much worse lows than we are currently experiencing, and listened to the moaners at home AND at away games at almost every ground in the football league, and the bottom line will never change - the players or manager must accept responsibility for poor performances.

Latics proved what they are capable of at Leeds and Everton, and then didn't put half the commitment, effort or thought into Brighton - That is just cause for a good moan.

By the way, I am considering walking round the town next week for ninety minutes collecting £18 off people who want to verbally abuse me for the duration of that time. I might even kick a ball around to pass the time. Any takers?

A very good post and all points are spot on.

There have been and always will be habitual moaners at this club and I think you notice it more now that we have all seater stadiums, as you tend to sit in the same seats around the same people at every home game. As for atmosphere....it's the team who really have to ignite the fans and they haven't exactly set the house on fire with the home performances this season.

2 wins and 9 goals at home all season.....it's just boring at the moment.

  11. I know this is covering old ground but Micah Richards still ain't signed a new contract at City.

The NOW says his agent ( Dad ) has advised him to turn down 50K a week and has asked for 75K.

Apparently this would break City's pay structure.

Three premier clubs are watching with interest.

Could be a windfall on the way!!!

  12. Loans are exactly what they mean......they are temporary. In the cases of Kilkenny and Bertrand we have had two Championship level players for half a season and if they did well they were almost certainly going to leave us for bigger clubs, especially Kilkenny.

Is that right? what are Leeds doin then?

The loan deal is so he can play against Northampton...he'll sign permanently within the next few days.

Leeds are just working the system.

  13. Maybe they can loan us someone else.

Loans are exactly what they mean......they are temporary. In the cases of Kilkenny and Bertrand we have had two Championship level players for half a season and if they did well they were almost certainly going to leave us for bigger clubs, especially Kilkenny.

We've now had arguably our two best players ripped from our grasp at the most critical part of the season and probably our chance of promotion this season.

Why didn't we try to buy Kilkenny earlier when we offloaded Ricketts?

We knew what he could do from when he was here before and surely it was worth a gamble.

Short term loans are OK to cover for injuries but long term loans if you ask me me are a waste of time...you might as well throw in your younger players like Black and Lomax and gain in the long term from their early development.

This is now a big chance for the likes of Thompson, Kalala, Allesandra and Wolfenden to show us that they've got what it takes.

  14. Don't make jokes like that, you'll have the people on Carlton Way thinking it is true.

I bet given the chance they would have taken the offer on the table during the 'Sports Park 2000' development, at least they would have been looking at fields instead of flats!!!

I could never understand why they opposed that scheme because it would have suited all parties.

Hewitt and his cronies were on one big ego trip which I'm glad to say has now backfired!

  15. that's a hard one ,we have had so many great players the likes of david shaw ,ian wood ,vic halom alan groves colin garwood john platt ,any ritchie ,roger palmer neil redfern ,earl barrett ,simon stainrod ,steve taylor shez, ,and many more for me it would be roger palmer

I'ts very difficult to name the best 'ever' player, but you've listed most of the contenders....In my era..on appearances it would have to be Ian Wood, goal scoring it would have to be Palmer or Ritchie, on pure skill and entertainment it would have to be Stainrod.

For someone to have the title of best ever player he would really need to have played a minimum of 2/300 games.

Paul Warhurst in the pinch me seasons under Big Joe was simply awesome, he only played for a season or so but I've never seen a more natural player in a blue shirt, he just seemed to glide across the pitch.

Alan Groves is another, probably the most entertaing winger we've ever had, and when on song was a defenders worst nightmare!

Without Neil Redfearn's influence we'd never have been promoted to the first division...I don't think I ever saw him miss a penalty!

However I'd have to plump for Ritchie over Palmer (just), because of his goal scoring in the season we were promoted to the First / Premiership and because it was also the most succesful period in our history.

  16. This sounds a good game. Shez tried to sell him to Fraebentos the Argentinian super club but Ricketts found out they wanted him for a supply of fatty pork luncheon meat.

For goodness sake i'm 6' 3" not that fit and carry at least 5 stone less than Mr. Ricketts. If he was motivated he would do something about the weight as does have a touch of ability when he can be bothered. Another wasted talent IMHO.

Ricketts is 11st 12lb so that puts you at around 7 stone. Are you feeling OK!!!!!!
