Well over 100 points still to play for but the season has nearly sailed? Not hysterical at all...

However deyres, you have to admit we would have to win every one of those hundred point to equal the final points tally of the second placed Notts County last year.

So, as we are unlikely to do that even if we suddenly improve and do well from now till the end of the season, we already have to feel we will be well below 100 points at the end. Another 3 or 4 poor results and that drops to below 90, again only with a long consistent brilliant run.

The season really has nearly sailed. Things have to get better now and remain good for the rest of the season. Can DU do that?

  2. Some of us get tired of reading posts defending the indefensible under the guise of “positivity “.

There are a lot of us who feel we have a squad with enough quality to be near the top of the league. If that is true of course during a game we will see the signs that we can compete. So if it’s not happening for us, something else isn’t right. As we have a good owner now, there is only one other major element in a football club to look at.  That’s why the call to replace the team management is getting louder.

I’m sure this squad will get some good results, but we are now in the horrible position of needing 4 wins on the trot. New manager bounce is probably the only thing that may get that.

First half hour they were miles better. We didn’t get outplayed after that, and we did look like we could win - on numerous occasions. But. I do agree, 1 win in 7 and can’t get over the line.

    Not good enough.

We most of us think this squad is good enough to win against teams in this div.  That means we will look capable of winning matches.  There is one ingredient which isn’t good enough to get us over the line. We will I’m sure get a few more games with this manager to final prove if he is that ingredient or if we were just unlucky.

    Dumb ass question time.

Is this game live on TNT as I am watching on NLTV.

    Yes it’s on TNT.

Watching with my wife who hates football and never watches oldham. She was just asking “why do the Oldham players walk about so much and never tackle? “

    She has a point!

let’s hope we hold on for the win!

  5. I make it that DU has had longer in charge then anyone since Lee Johnson.

If after the teams “good run” last year, we see a deterioration in results I for one won’t want to give him long.  So the question is, how long should we give it before we can say this seasons results are worse then the end of last season.

Some have said the new players need time to settle. They are all older players, so why do they need time?  As soon as they are match fit they should be firing.

  6. There is no doubt that 6 points from the next 2 games would mean we aren’t falling to far behind the top 7, and fans as a whole ( not the opinionated ones granted) would be OK with this manager having a bit longer.

I have heard it said many times that the league tablet after 10 games usually represents close to the finishing positions, apart from only 2 or 3 big movers.

If we are there abouts after 10 games, fair enough to delay any decision, but bottom half and I would like to see a decision.

  7. Some saying DU is “toxic” is something that I cannot accept without calling it wrong.  The man it trying his best to be successful.   The question, which will continue to be answered by results, is if his best is good enough to help us get promotion.

I understand people saying that in their opinion he isn’t good enough, but toxic?  That type of talk will influence those fans inclined to be bullies to try to force the club to sack the manager they now see as “toxic”. Hence the awful behaviour seen from some yesterday.

I am personally in the camp of “I doubt he is a good enough manager”, but while he is still our manger and trying his best, I’m going to hope each game he comes good.  If he keeps under scoring the number of points we need, he will be gone.

  8. DU seemed to me to be under more stress then I have seem before.  He really had a go at Tollitt during the game, and several times others too after poor play. I’m guessing he has been thinking that he could soon be 4 matches into the season and only 3 points to show for it.  Pressure mounts and is good for no one.

I think his strangely up beat public assessment of Tues nights game was his attempt to bolster team moral. If he had said publicly what he was really thinking, he would have further risked loosing the team.

Probably somewhere between 1.5-2 points per game.

So really we are in agreement, we need to win the next game, if we don’t we can’t even meet your points average by winning the 3rd game. And so our season goes! (Or previous experience shows including DUs reign so far)

You're basing that on 90 minutes football, it's not enough. No one ignored Norwood in the penalty box on Saturday. I can think of one occasion when Shelton failed to pick him out in the channels but that didn't seem deliberate, more unfamiliarity.

If Unsworth has lost the dressing room why on earth would Frank and Darren Royle sanction a massive signing on the eve of the new season? Doesn't make sense.

You say 90 minutes isn’t enough time to judge which is probably true. However your next paragraph you imply Frank and Darren would know DU has lost the dressing room without any match. Seems a little inconsistent of you.

I’m guessing we all need 3 or 4 matches to form an opinion. I really hope if results remain poor that the new owner and management team don’t delay and dither in replacing the manager.

Quite. I just think the club board would look naive at best to part with him now after sticking with him through some dark times last season and backing him heavily this summer...

I feel giving him a whole season and off season shows they have give him a good chance to show if he can improve the team and it’s results.  They will look naive and indecisive if they don’t respond to 2 or 3 similar poor performances this month. I really hope that things will look better by the end of August either with an improvement in results or a new manager.

  12. 6 hours ago, OneSizeFitz said:

Would be absolutely bonkers to back the manager to the extent they have over the summer and then sack him after one game...

Maybe “only one” game would seem bonkers to sack him, but how many matches would you give him, just to avoid people saying you are bonkers.

The thing is that it isn’t only one game.  We have watched a season of this management now. We have watched the management team in place have a full off season and a fair amount of financial backing. We have just all had the new season optimism knocked out of us. No apparent improvement made. For me, another 2 poor performances and I will be ready to get behind the “DU out”.  I don’t fancy another season like last year.

Didn't really need to, there were hundreds and soon thousands of people who were protesting against them but now the same people seem to be walking round with their eyes closed

Some of us are giving the present board the benefit of the doubt, because it’s the first time for over 15 yrs that we have had a board who are trying to improve things and turn us back into a proper football club. Paying bills for instance. I think I heard that the medical department are even having the bill for the strapping for players ankles paid.

The suggestion was all his crosses were shite. Clearly not.

Google / YouTube is a great resource if you're interested in checking things out before posting.

Knocking balls into the box for DKD and Bahambula is a far trickier job than it is for Fondop and Nutall.

Stobbs or someone else, it's a weapon we need to use more.

If you check those highlights again the only cross was from Rooney!

He's probably not as his head seemed to have gone towards the end of last season (bit like J Clarke this season) but we aren't creating anything so we need someone who can deliver from out wide. Be that Stobbs, Couto or someone else.

At the moment we have little threat from wide and don't seem to have the right link up to create through the middle. We're playing 442 without anyone who is an out and out winger.

Tollet can't play wide right, Chapman won't provide much for Nutall etc, Rooney isn't a winger. Given our weakness on the right not sure why he has been dismissed so readily. We got this massive squad, why not use it?

I'll just add this to show they didn't all end up in the Chaddy End.

Interestingly the only Stobbs cross shown was the corner, a set piece.  The second half lowlights show plenty of evidence of Stobbs running about on the edge of the chasing shadows including before one of the goals.
These highlights don’t help to prove Stobbs is worth a place in our squad.

My judgement is going seriously wrong, as many suggest maybe it's time for me to retire from making player observations?

DU will be talking about the GPS results ie How many meters Nuttall has run. BP you are probably noticing if Nuttall is getting close enough to the defender to actually press him and influence what he does with the ball.  Two very different things, so don’t give up BP.

    Awful game.

Two forwards dire, offer nothing, no options for midfielders.

Gardner injured AGAIN, a waste of a wage.

    Yarney good.

Or maybe playing nearly 90 minutes first match back when not match fit after a  prolonged spell recovering from injury.  Then another 2 matches in 11 days was to much for an older player. DU is used to young players who heal quicker and maybe this is another mismanagement.

Experienced managers and medical teams usually give 20 to 30 mins first game, then maybe start and do 60 or 70 mins as a minimum before a full 90 mins.

What is sad is the tired idea that because someone has a different view they're automatically Barry or one or his stooges.

If Frank took over the Jan before given the recruitment, no interview etc, I can't see that the outcome would have been different. Once the job was available Unsworth would have got the gig.

It is strange that someone who clearly loves to post and is presumably not a new Oldham fan, didn’t join this forum and post during all the massive problems of the AL era, but does now!

It does make more sense that you were previously posting under another pseudonym. Why would you swap? Well most likely because you were getting a lot of stick PeteG.

I wouldn't have thought Mr Rothwell was the kind of astute businessman to keep a manager just to appease Joe Royle. It's his club, he makes the decisions...

It would surely already be easy for Mr Rothwell to have a talk with Big Joe along the lines of, “I really have been patient and given DU the chance to turn things round. I think you’ll agree it’s time to make changes.” Surely that would just be agreed.

It is true, it was me who he told to fuck off. I “politely” told him in the 92nd minute we’d had zero shots in the game and that it wasn’t good enough. To be fair I didn’t even swear until after he swore at me. Won’t lose any sleep over it at all, but you can’t be reacting like that no matter the situation.
Surprised he stayed on the pitch so long at FT, because he was getting absolute pelters from the fans walking up the tunnel, and he’s usually the 1st one up those steps!

Make an official complaint in writing. Gross misconduct in any companies books, using foul and abusive language in public to a customer.

Maybe, just maybe the owners need this excuse.
