  1. Corney in the UK tomorrow I'm hearing. Interesting to see how the odds change. Could be a big day, particularly if the anti-drugs brigade are there protesting to prevent Baxter signing... ;-)
  2. That's a shame. There is a clear breakdown in trust between fans and club, not helped by poor communication. If anything he needs to do more meetings! A bit of honesty would go a long way.
  3. Especially if they were in a bad plaice financially...
  4. I recall he was open to this if they still wanted a refund after meeting with him. Despite loads of keyboard warriors, only one person had the balls to meet him. That person suggested we should have had three-time relegation hero Dean Saunders as manager instead...and obviously Corney pointed out the major stock he'd have had for appointing him (or whoever he chose). That person remained a season ticket holder I think!
  5. I wonder if it has to be 'cheap' - I'm not sure if it's 'cheap option' any more because that implies a choice...! There were the stories of wages not being paid, and then the early season ticket offer - which I fear was a dressed up act of desperation to get extra income in quickly. We'll have money for Shez and, in due course, Coleman and Kelly I guess. But whilst Shez bailed for the cash and it certainly wasn't Corney's fault, given a whole squad needs constructing under a new boss with limited dosh... I think we could be in much bigger trouble than we realise.
  6. If Dowie has contacted the club, sent a text or a plea for an interview - whatever... Why doesn't he show he actually wants the job and officially apply like everyone else?
  7. Is the rumour, about why Dunn signed, that was proved completely true by his appointment? He wasn't given a chance because his CV was shown up as a complete over-sell (that somehow wasn't exposed at interview or by references), the board had to step in and make our signings because he had no contacts, and our pre-season form was shocking. They realised a reckless appointment was a complete cock-up. Dunn was a quick-fix as they didn't want another Holden episode. Sheridan was the well-executed rescue mission.
  8. Agree with this when it comes to experts with the club's finances, as it was with experts with the new stand. It's hard to believe anything to do with Latics these days. Anything is possible. But to be fair there was a good number pointing concern at the obvious 'fact' Shez was being linked with every vacancy going... And there were those that seemingly knew the 'facts' that it was all rumour and speculation... Despite plummeting odds and journalists reporting talks and interviews at other clubs,.. just because there hadn't been an official club statement....!!!! Or a statement about a forthcoming statement.
  9. True. And it was a very good appointment!! (I presume you mean LJ).
  10. And he wasn't first choice... A sliding doors moment perhaps. How much our defence transformed was extraordinary. Yes Gerrard was a key signing (ahem, thanks Simon....), but surely it also reflects well on Shirtliff that he was effectively able to micro-manage someone of that character along with youngsters like Dieng and Coleman, a tricky mardy one in James Wilson, and a player who seemed destined to be out the club and way past it... In B Wilson.... - but he got the best out of all them.
  11. Doesn't seem to be getting much support, but Redfearn was doing lots of scouting and note taking at L1 and L2 games before he got his last job. That's more research than many who will be applying...
  12. Notts spent well over £100k on a single player last season. One player. The embargo will be lifted soon. They get bigger crowds than us. It's a relatively easy promotion for Shez in a league he knows well, and I guess a handy promotion bonus would follow suit. Left because of the budget my arse!
  13. I hope Shirtliff does stay in some form. Obviously Shez took all the glory... But the dramatic improvement to our defence since Shirtliff joined the club, and how crucial that was to us staying up given the number of narrow wins, has perhaps not been given the credit it deserved...?!
  14. Whatever it is, even with little Oldham, they keep getting it spot on - and often before, or just before, it's in the press. People talk I guess, and then people bet.
  15. That's quite a low opinion of punters' accuracy you've got there... ;-) I know what you mean... But I hope you're not alluding to the idea that just a couple of bets dictate the odds - particularly in light of what happened with LJ and Shez etc, and folk dismissing it... The odds will shorten if there is truth in it. Not because Barry, Simon and Neil each put £5 on it.
  16. True. But a club fighting below its weight. A relatively easy promotion opportunity from a division he knows well?
  17. Although something is odd that Cooper took over and left after 5min to take over a non-league team... Yet Sheridan, who was linked with the vacancy last time, is now interested. His agent is working overdrive for media attention! But there's no way in a million years it's without Shez's blessing - otherwise the agent would be out of a job?!
  18. Rubbish. As soon as he kept us up he's been linked with every vacancy. He took the job because if we went down, it was going to happen anyway; if he did the miracle and kept is up, perfect springboard for his managerial career.
  19. Barnsley further being rewarded for their patience in LJ, and keeping hold of the squad he put together - particularly Winnall. On the flip side, you could argue they've been a different gravy since he left. Stunning form in 2016.
  20. I think Sheridan would jump at the chance. He's got nothing to lose. Even with the dodgy owner. Even if he loses five games, the owner changes and he is sacked: 1. He'll make money from being paid off. 2. Whatever the results, he won't be blamed - the turmoil off the pitch, finances, and general unstable atmosphere will be deemed as big factors. 3. It's gets his name associated with a 'big club', in a managerial capacity, making it more likely another will give him a chance - even if this initial experience proved a negative one. Basically his miracle job with us - which will be perceived as an even bigger miracle elsewhere although I think we admit it was on the whole - gives him an ideal chance to cash in on his managerial stock. I just hope it's resolved quickly. If he signs 'his' players and then leaves, it's a bit tricky.. But admittedly his track record from last season suggests he finds good players... It's just a case of making sure we'd find someone capable of managing the same type of players.
  21. Living in fantasy if you think a few idiots chucking some dosh will massively sway the betting market. Are you not aware how much it has grown in recent years. He has definitely been in talks for two other jobs now. The club denying an approach means jack all. I'm sure Newport didn't have an official approach for quite a while, certainly not before a latte in Tesco...!! Wake up to football business these days. Obviously love Shez for his job in keeping us up. You understand why he could cash in on that with a 'promotion' of sorts while his managerial stock is high. I'm confident he'll still be with us. But it's shattered the romance a little that after slapping the badge etc, he's been touting himself to two other clubs already this summer. A good start early in the season and he'll be linked with even more jobs. Still, that's football. We just need to be savvy as a club and always keep an eye out... I.e. Not have another Dean Holden moment...
  22. "Oldham boss and former Leeds midfielder John Sheridan has held a second round of talks about the Elland Road job and is now odds-on favourite with the bookies to make a return to the Yorkshire giants." http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/steve-evans-set-leeds-axe-7945915
  23. My god. We were absolute garbage and his sacking was only a matter of time before we even kicked a ball. Clueless recruitment, having lied about contacts allegedly leaving the board to make signings (including Dunn), and clueless tactics. It says a lot about League One that we were able to get way with it for the first few games.
  24. It would be funny if Blackpool go down and are then open to giving us back Philliskirk on a free... To avoid any outstanding funds involved from the fee... If there are any.
