  1. Chaddy - think you may be right - I know it was a small bit at the far side - might only have been the corner in fact. I do remember being somewhat embarrassed at the City fans singing "You only get 2,000" - being a reference to our home crowds at that time too.
  2. Oh - and my opinion on City's away support? My cousin is a mad City fan - and he describes their away support as incredible. Personally, I haven't a clue - except I remember them taking over BP in the 80s before wrecking the place - think the RRE was full by about 1.30pm - so they climbed on pitch and went into the Ford Stand before starting to rip all the seats out - utter mayhem.
  3. Lee - I`m afraid you'll have to have it - because it's true ! At times, we've had truly awful support - even Man City away (again in the 80s) - I remember we were in the small bit of the Kippax - probably only took about 600 that day - to City (unthinkable now I know). Sunderland away in the FA cup - (70s) - one Latics fan ran onto pitch and planted a balloon in the centre circle - weren't many at Roker Park at all. Away matches didn't seem to be the 'big deal' they were nowadays. Times change.
  4. Thank you for the replies. I`ll take the advice and just disappear into the ether now. What a strange way to run something though i.e. can't leave Must incur cost supporting space for people who no longer wish to be here? Best of luck to Latics forever
  5. Joined here to sample an online forum as never bothered before (and was stuck in bed with flu) To be quite honest, don't rate it - not this site - just the whole experience to be honest. How do I close my account please? Have looked everywhere but can't find the answer? Best of luck to you and the Latics
  6. Probably Maurice Whittle - and for what it's worth - thought Eardley was class. Just because someone doesn't agree with you - doesn't make them a troll (I`ve just learnt what that is )
  7. Don't know what you mean by 'mix it up' - simply giving my opinion as a Latics fan of many years - and I don't particularly rate Chris Taylor - big deal. And Sly - don't worry at all about bullying - bullies have never bothered me in the slightest
  8. well - judging by the results of the poll - whether he's a c____ or not - over two thirds would have him back - the boo boys will ensure that don't happen though
  9. Plenty never rated Taylor that much - particularly towards the end - flattered to deceive. Hard tackle him - nowhere to be seen ever again. Honestly do not think he would improve us now - his pace was once an asset - he lost that and looked a very ordinary player. If he does come back - let's see - hope I am completely wrong.
  10. and we wonder why he'd never come back to Latics! Pathetic IMO - slagging off someone who was a quality player for us. Amazing isn't it - Chris Taylor refuses a new contract and goes - but he still remains a 'darling' because, of course, he still has Latics at heart. Laughable - went for the money like they all do - so why pick on Porter. Oh yes - because you have to have somebody to bully don't you
  11. Our away support is ok when we are doing well - drops off pretty quick when we aren't. Home support stays bobbins simply because BP is an awful place for a day out. Away support has not always been good. I remember a gang of us in the early 80s being about the ONLY Latics fans at West Ham for a night match - all 7/8 of us lol ! Also distinctly remember the same gang being amongst about 70 Latics fans away at Sheffield Weds on Saturday afternoon around the same era - the bloody police stuck us in their end! Yes it's true - about 70 away for a Saturday match in Sheffield.
  12. you'll probably struggle mate - last time I went to Mossley was a pre-season friendly against Latics (and some celebration for some lunchtime legend of theirs) - and don't think there was even that many on the terraces that night. Hope the weather is kind for it though - always happy to support a good "Oldham" cause
  13. To be fair, it's yet to dawn on the Dale fans that this is anything other than a local fixture. Their 'traditional' derby over the years has been with Bury (because they've been in the basement division many times together) and those matches have been quite tasty. Doubt they will bring above 1100/1200 to ours.
  14. Yeah - he did so well at Millwall - they didn't renew his contract. Went on a free to Blackburn and was last spotted in a Lancashire Senior Cup tie or something like that. Hardly set Blackburn alight in almost 2 years now - v rarely gets in the team. Had a great spell with us - should have cashed in when people were talking silly money for him - we didn't - and would be no use back here IMO - too lightweight - always was.
  15. Definitely not! All about opinions football. When he went, I said he'd never do anything after Latics - and he certainly won't do anything for us now - lightweight and too easily bullied - always was but his pace got him away from people for a while.
  16. I think if he didn't 'do it' instantly - they'd be on his back very quickly - we've seen it all before - and that would demoralise him - in reality if virtually the whole of the Chaddy End (and it was by far the loudest song of the night) blasted out "One Greedy Bar Steward" when you came on as a sub - would it tempt you back? Don't think he'll entertain us (very sadly) and can't really blame him.
  17. A fully fit Chris Porter is exactly the type of player we need right now. However, if he came, certain sections of the crowd would give him a hard time (as they did very vociferously when he came on for Sheff U last season in a home night game - and promptly scored!). It will not work for that reason - i.e. we would gladly cut off our noses to spite our faces - so much for wanting success for the Latics !
  18. Regarding Elokobi - for the first few games after his arrival I thought he was an absolute donkey. However, once he got a few games under his belt, he was very assured and looked the part before his injury. It's the same since he came back from injury - donkey again! He's clearly one that takes time to re-adjust - just don't think we've got the luxury to allow for that - although difficult to get players like him up to speed in the absence of a decent reserve league. Suspect that Lockwood will never be the same again after his long absence (and if his contract is up at end of season may have to let him go in view of age?). Wilson is a pale shadow of himself at the moment but Bristol City fans will tell you - once he's had a rollicking - that's it - confidence shattered and toys thrown out of pram. Going to be an interesting January?
  19. Yes - I now realise with my amazing powers of perception that I am a natural as next manager for Latics!
  20. Totally agree about Forte. Will only ever be effective running into space from the left wing behind the full back and sneaking goals. Pace is his attribute - close mark him and you'll snuff him out. Just read bits of this thread and I cannot believe people seriously talking about be glad to see Chris Taylor back here. Cannot agree at all. He had a good spell for us (when we failed to cash in) and after that was pretty average. How does Chris Taylor improve us please? Answers on the back of a postage stamp. Now - Chris Porter - yes for sure - exactly what we need. Although when he came on as a sub for Sheff U in a night match last season (and scored I think), the crowd gave him a real hard time singing "One greedy bar steward" at the top of their voices. May well have put him off us for good. IF he did come back, PLEASE stay off his back for a while and give him chance to adjust - because he WILL score goals for us - unlike the so-called strikers we currently possess.
  21. Personally, I would like to accommodate both players. Johnson oozes class at this level. So comfortable on the ball and rare, nowadays, to see players able to 'shimmy' past opponents (like Gascoigne used to do) - love him and quite able to forgive his lack of defensive qualities simply because he's the type of quality worth paying to see. I also appreciate Danny - a real grafter and a very intelligent player. I still do not think we have found the best way to utilise him though - I think he's got at least a dozen goals a season in him at this level - once LJ figures out how to play him properly - he'll be a very valuable asset.
  22. Absolute blessing in disguise - bet LJ has been praying to the weather gods to get this one called off. Now got some time to conduct a proper (and private) inquest into what the hell has gone on lately - and sort it out. Here's hoping the enforced break puts the straight run of December defeats to bed.
  23. Absolutely spot on. He was a revelation at Chesterfield, probing and feeding Doyle for his goals. He is a very classy player and anyone that would like to see him leave just hasn't a clue about good football I`m afraid. He's the type of player we should be building around.
  24. I am ever so sorry - I realise now why I don't usually join sites like these - because of the little 'cliques' you get on them and how easy it is to upset egos on here. I`m gone - bye.
