  1. Think we need a sprinkling of reality

Before yesterday we had won 3 games in a row under the guidance of Richie Wellens, who for me has done a brilliant job of producing a much better of style of football than we've seen for a very long time and is getting results

However, despite facing ex Premier League Champions and local neighbours Blackburn Rovers for the first time in the League since 1993, our official attendance was only 7,784 of which c3,500 being Rovers fans. So despite the massive improvement in results, the Media attention (tv and newspapers) regarding a new manger appointment and if we won, it would the first time in our Club History that a new manager got 4 wins in a row, only 4,300 Latics Supporters turn up !

We have paid our Club Staff and Players late again and not for the first time. Recently published financial data point to annual trading losses in the £millions.

Our Club is in desperate need of financial help, be it from a Takeover or an Investor and not for just a few £million

Anyone who is prepared to spend £millions in our Club will most certainly have their own ideas on who they want to appoint in both 'on the field' matters and likewise 'off the field' matters. I would be seriously concerned if they did not want to.

Yesterdays game was the most I have enjoyed at Boundary Park for years and I truly hope Richie Wellens will play a significant role in the ongoing future of playing staff.

However,I would be really surprised, if there is not a new manager waiting to be announced as part of the financial help deal that we critically need

OAFC 2004 Ltd owe rent for the ground. It is perfectly clear. It isn't clear if that includes the North Stand, you are simply assuming that it did

leeslover remarked about the ownership of the North Stand and I confirmed we rented it from Brass Bank Ltd

Where are you picking up a point about OAFC 2004 Ltd owing rent for the ground ?

The meeting notes clearly state the Club 'rent the land & buildings from BBL @ £100K per annum (recently reduced from £150k).

Are you saying the Fans Meeting notes regarding the renting of the North Stand from Brass Bank Ltd (as extracted above) is incorrect then ?

  4. Accounts registered 26th September 2017 are for year ending 30th June 2016

The document registered is a balance sheet not a Profit & Loss account

    Points of note are:

Tangible Assets (assets having a physical form such as buildings land machinery) have reduced to £3m from £4.3m in 2015

Debtors (what is owed to us) is £230k from £637k in 2015

Creditors (what we owe) is £11.7m up from £9m in 2015

Profit & Loss (summary of costs and expenses v revenue) present a Loss of £8.9m up from a Loss of £4.4m in 2015

A balance sheet doesn't give a full picture of a business financial standing, particularly relating to who our Creditors are

Anyone wanting to acquire our Club would have to be convinced of the valuation of our Tangible Assets (relatively straight forward)) but the size of our Creditors (what we owe) and who we owe, would be the challenge depending on the Creditors expectations (ie how much of their monies are they expecting back / prepared to write off)

The Creditors amount of £11.7m would need a negotiated settlement or the amount to be refinanced

Its worth noting that this financial data is from over 12 months ago and could have changed significantly over that period

A new buyer or Investor would obviously have access to current financial trading and current debt liabilities

All the above information is in the public domain and to speculate further would not be 'good form'

Some managers succeed first time round though.

I think I've even seen statistics showing that's the better route to success. i.e very few succeed twice or succeed after having already failed.

For every Dunn or Dickov there's a Royle or a Lee Johnson.

What if Wellens was one of the latter and we miss out on him and he does well elsewhere having had him right here...?

League Tables take the emotion out of it and we're not 2nd from bottom of League One for nothing

Of course it would be brilliant if an ex player brought us success, but for me its highly risky and unlikely

We have an immediate problem that needs resolving, whilst setting realistic ambitions on our future and lets be brutally honest, our Club has been in a spiral of decline for a number of year both on and off the pitch, resulting in reducing numbers watching games at Boundary Park, generating less revenue.

We need to make Boundary Park a Fortress where opposition teams dread coming to and they go back with very little

Better Home form will lift us up the table and if sustained is the only way we will gradually build our attendances which improve revenues and with it our ability to attract more players of quality, as they do exist as recently proven (Bryan Byrne Doyle Gardner)

I really cannot see anything but 'previous management experience' achieving this for us

And does anyone really think we have someone waiting to pump Oil Sheikh multi £millions into our Club

We get this so many times in so many walks of life. Do you not see that nobody can have a career without a first day in the job? Joe Royle had a first day in the job, for example. And, whatever your job is, you had a first day too, when someone took a bet on you because they thought that you'd be good.

Its all about opinions of course

But for me, the Manager of our Club is the single most important job of all and I wouldn't risk putting our future in the hands of anyone who has never 'managed' a football club previously or at least progressed with football experience and guidance

Footballer to Qualified Coach to Coaching Staff to Assistant Manger to New Manager, all day long

  7. boundaryblue80 / singe

RW has no management experience at all so an extended run as Caretaker Manager would be naïve

Having him part of the coaching team or Assistant Manager to enable him to learn off an experienced Manager maybe

Agree entirely that with him only recently giving up playing that he could well be really valuable to a new experienced Manager

Seriously, if we get this appointment wrong we're very likely to tumble into League 2 and we cant keep missing the drop by a few games every single season

I might have agreed, before watching the match last night. I am happy for things to go on behind the scenes, and let RW carry on and entertain us for now.

You cant seriously believe a man who was part of the coaching team has magically turned everything round for us in a few days

The recent additions of Eoin Doyle, Kean Bryan, Jack Byrne and less recently Dan Gardner have give us a better chance to compete for sure but we've seen that in recent games

Really hope that Richie Wellens spell as Caretaker goes well and maybe he can become part of the new coaching team but giving him an extended run as our Manager, I think not

  9. This is not a time for sentiment and certainly not about considering appointing ex players with no/little management experience at all

If we don't get this next Manager appointment right we seriously risk the drop into League 2 which holds the 'trapdoor to oblivion'

Chesterfield and Port Vale are currently in the bottom 3 of League 2, very similar Clubs to ourselves

A Manager of experience is critical now

If there's a 6ft 5" striker it makes sense to stop crosses going in to him.

Yet wing backs were chosen who can't put a tackle in.

You also had 3 centre backs who can't get their feet off the ground to head a ball and wonder why the giant striker scored 2.

Only way to stop a 6'5" striker is to stop crosses coming in, yet we play wing backs who are more attacking orientated than defenders. Great formation if you're expecting to comfortably win a game.

Rotherham were fast playing down the flanks, rarely playing through the centre so got enough crosses in to win 3-4 games

We obviously set up our formation without having a clue about how Rotherham play !

Doesn't anyone watch the opposition in advance of us playing them

  11. For me, the reason for such a heavy defeat, which to be fair could have been by an additional 2-3 goals, is fairly simple.

Against a team that had already scored 5 goals we lined up with a 3-5-2 formation against a 4-1-4-1

A 3-5-2 formation was even more disappointing when you're defending against a 6'5" striker

You'd think that with our starting formation that we were the team having scored 5 goals in a game already !!

Doesn't anyone watch the opposition in advance of us playing them

  12.

IF we get any new investment its highly unlikely to be anything that will massively change the fortunes of our Club

Hopefully though something that will enable us to continually improve our squad, as we've seen in recent weeks with the introduction of Eoin Doyle Jack Byrne Kean Bryan and less recently Dan Gardner.

The addition of a 'well known' player at the latter years of their career would be a bonus

For me, I'd most certainly stick with John Sheridan who with funds to strengthening the squad could well get us to a play off place.

If our supposed new investor was a billionaire oil sheikh,  I'm pretty sure we would have all known by now :D

  13.

Much improved performance yesterday particularly from midfield with Dan Gardner Jack Byrne and Kean Bryan fairly much bossing the game

Eoin Doyle is class for League One and we seemed more dangerous with him partnering Davies than Holloway. Hopefully we can hold onto him after January

The new lad No27 Nepomucenco didn't look like he had played 'wing back' previously but to be fair it was his first game and I thought he looked to be playing better in the 2nd half but clearly was tiring towards the end

Young Edmundson was against both attackers and defenders (for set pieces) who were from 'the Land of the Giants' and I thought faired well all things considered

As for conceding the penalty, whilst the actual attempted tackle was a little naïve, the mounting Fleetwood attacks should have been disrupted by our management team making a couple of substitutions and knocking a few minutes off the added 4 minutes.

Definitely more optimistic having watched us over the last few games

  14. Midfield looks something like decent now with Jack Byrne Danny Gardner and Kean Bryan (when fully fit) with all of them looking to play the ball forward

Eoin Doyle has a class first touch and took his goal exceptionally well. Don't see him as a lone striker so we will need to find him a partner fairly sharpish and tbh I'm not at all sure who best fits that role. Davies movement is poor and hardly ever wins a header, Holloway wins a fair share of headers and could be the more likely to help feed Doyle.

Totally baffled why we continue to start so flat and every team in League One must know to chuck everything at us from the start.

Ben Wilsons confidence must be an issue now so we need to try our new International Keeper for the Fleetwood game

Unless there was an agreement covering the purchase of that 3% stake which stated otherwise.

If not, then you're right; it would be unrealistic to expect Corney to communicate with the Trust if he doesn't have to, especially with a Trust rep who has the gall to question him.  That would never happened on Barry's watch.

I would suggest that a 3% stake in any business gives you little other than the option to comment about who is buying the remaining 97%  shares, certainly not the option to prevent any majority shareholder shares purchase

Its easy to think 'cloak and dagger' dealings by the Chairman but realistically, why would anyone discuss Club intimate dealings with a 3% stakeholder especially if the relationship is all but broken down

  16. 1 hour ago, underdog said:

I find it interesting that the statement says Corney has approached the EFL over it, yet has still not advised the clubs board? his inner circle as some would say (exception being Trust rep).

To quote some the "yes men", granted they don't have a stake so to speak. Now off the top of my head I am unsure how many are on the board poss about 5 now.

The main one that you would have thought should have been told is your Trust rep who looks after the fans 3% stake and as of last night. We had not been advised

Your recent posts have advised that the relationship between the Chairman and the Trust has broken down so not surprising that any confidential information is not being discussed with the Trust

I would also suggest that holding a 3% stake in the Club would only warrant a courtesy advance notification when any significant change to the Club structure is imminent.

3% certainly would not warrant active involvement in any detailed discussions

    Just being realistic

Interesting point, and not just at first team level.

For all the praise Philliskirk gets from our fans, we don't really get that many come through and make much of an impact...

In Saturdays Programme under Academy News, Tony Philliskirk stated

"Last season alone, we sold Chris Renshaw to Everton, an under 12 to Liverpool and under 9 signed for Man City"

"Our under 15 player Jack Williams went away to an England training camp and was the only category 3 player there and in the game he played, he scored two and set one up"

He also talks about when a player first starts with us, its about educating them the Oldham Athletic way

Reads really well and sounds very encouraging and I love the thought of 'the Oldham Athletic Way' but we don't seem to feel it in the first team

  18. It simply isn't about spending loads in the transfer market

Both John Sheridan and Richie Wellens were combative and played every game to Win

Tommy Wright another combative player with a decent goals to games ratio

What bemuses me is that all three seem unable to at least get their playing attitude into our players and you wouldn't be looking forward to having to play against a team with a 'midfield' including Richie Wellens, Tommy Wright and John Sheridan !

What happened to 'coaching and improving' players !

    Attacking and Defending Corner Kicks

    Attacking and Defending Free Kicks

    Maximising 'Throw Ins'

Pressing and closing down the opposition

Pass & Go, NOT just hoofing the ball

Being fit enough to keep going for 90mins

On Saturday our lone striker had virtually all the 'passes' to him in the air against two giant Wigan Defenders, No33 being 6'7" :disappointed:

We're highly unlikely to ever get enough to simply buy in talent so we seriously need to improve on our coaching and player attitudes to playing for our Club

And therein lies the problem and the solution!!!

Gardner did what we all expected him to on hid debut (and in my opinion, better than I expected).......he passed long, he passed short, he tackled, he headed, he carried the ball, he defended and he made mistakes...............half of which we have expected from Banks but for over a season has failed dismally (as did Winchester before him).

We need to settle on a system and get people into fit that system:

Big Joe decided on two grafters who could play in the middle.......two out of Milligan, Henry, Bernard and Redfearn with two wingers in Adams and Holden.

Graeme Sharp tried to emulate the Everton midfield at it's prime and, again in my opinion, worked  because the players knew what was expected.........Halle (Stephens), Brennan (Sheedy), Henry and Snodin (Reid and Bracewell}.

For too many seasons now, we've put up with players who can do a job in various positions.......which is why I find some of Sheridan signings baffling. I don't, for one minute, think the problem is purely down to money but more to trust......otherwise why bring back Davies.......a player with no form of scoring over the last two seasons.

    Agree with mikejh45

We need a system (the Oldham Way) which should start as a minimum of being hard to beat at Boundary Park

You don't have to be a 'Football Genius' to work out that Home form is the only way to keep our current fan base and hopefully attract back some of our drifting supporters

The Club should then find it easier to find players who simply are the natural type of player who will fit into 'the Oldham Way' and hate losing

Teams should dread playing against us at Boundary Park because we refuse to be beaten

Long journey this but we have to start somewhere because we are going nowhere currently

  20.

Most of you haven't worked it out yet but some of you are getting closer

John Sheridan has worked wonders for our Club, saving us from relegation twice in recent years

Problem as I see it though, is that the very same John Sheridan who can galvanise a group of players behind a cause, appears to only be able to do so for a short period of time

As soon as he gets past the completion of the initial objective (usually survival) he seems to lose faith in the players or more concerning, the players start to lose trust in him

His recent public outbursts, "some players are only giving 60/70%" and "we need 5 or 6 new players" and him bizarrely playing average players out of position, for me, just further demonstrate his poor team building / management skills

A wonderful footballer in his day, but why, with the 'Championship Manager Merry Go Round' has he not be snapped up, or even by a League One prospective promotion team
