  1. Huge credit goes to the management and recruitment team, including DU for getting Norwood over the line. Totally unexpected and a real statement signing in the NL.

Im sure he's impressed with the ambition of the club and what he has seen of our set up which is fucking amazing compared to when I drove up the Weladstone game from darn sarf last season.

    Credit where credits due👍👍

Now let's smash these Essex wideboys on Saturday 💪

I can't really say I've followed Chesterfield's pre-season activity much.  I know they've signed Grigg and another L1 player whose name escapes me.  Who else?  Given we outscored them in points for the second half of last season I can't really fathom why they are such strong favourites - I'm very happy with the 11/1 and 9/1 (the latter still readily available) at which I've been accumulating bets on us since the bookies opened up.

Liking your prices Dave after today's incoming announcement!!

It’s that dreaded momentum thing we were all debating a while back! If we had more tickets available, as we had expected, there would have been a buzz about the match and loads would have decided to head down on Saturday as the FOMO kicked in…..Billy used to do a great job of that when they’d update the Tickets sold on Twitter every few hours

Had this whole thing not been a shambles we’d have taken over 1000 and even with the last minute go ahead I still think we’d have got close and easily 800-900 but looks like we’re stuck with 660 (although the Southend Ticket site suggests we have 685)

Plenty of us Southern based fans would have bought tickets late in the week or paid on the day if available I'm sure.

My guess is it would have been similar numbers to Torquay last season....but whatever official numbers were posted, were fudged anyway!!

    Fact. From their current manager.

Really.....so he turned us down....to continue playing in the Northern Premier League where amazing football is played weekly ....because he didn't like our style of football!!

    Never heard such bollocks.

He's still at Mac I believe.... so wonder why he hasn't moved to City yet if that's his rationale.

Think their manager has been on the mushrooms....

  5. FFS we will sign a right back!!

We just need to make sure it's one on our terms and is the right fit for the club.

Im happy to trust in the process and get the right player for us by the end of August. Not having this player for the first few games isn't going to make or break our season.

For all those moaning.... read back in the thread you know who you are.....just wait until a a meaningful ball has been kicked this season and take a breath before kicking off.

I for one am looking forward not backwards.

    nuffsed.

  6. I think the top 4 will be Chesterfield, Oldham, York and Hartlepool (not sure in what order), with maybe Woking, Boreham Wood and Dale making up the next 3.

Not sure how much better Chesterfield are than us, but the game on 19/8 should give us an early steer on where we are, and if we need to strengthen further to compete with them. My guess would be a win for them by the odd goal as they probably have a stronger and more settled starting 11 than us.

Up until 24th Jan last season they were flying....winning 16 drawing 4 and losing 4 of their first 24 games (100 pts form), and were right up there with Wrexham and Notts County, before for some reason they didn't win for 9 games which put pay to their automatic promotion hopes.

I'd say 5/2 favourites is about right and 9 or 10/1 about right for us.

I'd also be more than happy with a solid top 4 spot and a play off final win dicking Rochdale!! 😀

Right back is the most crucial signing of the summer for me.  Maybe other clubs know this and are playing hard ball.  I reckon we'll have it sorted before the season kicks off.

We can cope for a bit with what we have I'm sure until we get the man we want.

No window for the NL so we have plenty of time in my view...pointless rushing something through if the player or terms are not right

  8. I've both written and been asked to execute many of these mantras over the years and they very easy to put down on paper....but substantially more difficult to deliver on.

All objectives do seem realistic though and as long as the board keep going back to the winning football matches bit all should be good👍

14 years, 4 years, 5 years - how many years of those 5, 4 or 14 was the running of those clubs stable/stablish giving them the ability to recruit a bit/quite a bit better than the rest?

That's the key and that's what we're told we've got.

We should be at the end of our "it took Oldham x years to get out of this league" as opposed to in the mires Wrexham, Notts & Chesterfield were once in during/before the timescales you've used.

Notts lost in the playoffs 3 years in row before their last minute winner in this year's final, and Chesterfield have also lost in the playoffs in last 3 years. Both were backed with decent budgets over those periods but didn't go up.

I'm just saying it's bloody hard and we have no right to assume just because we are Oldham, and have spent a few quid we will walk the league playing entertaining football....we won't! Wrexham Notts and Chesterfield were mile's better than us last season even though we got a couple of flukey results against them so we have a fair way to go in my humble opinion.

I'd settle for a scrambled 6th place finish...playing solid football...and an extra time winner in the playoff final....just like Grimsby did🙂

It also only took Grimsby one season after a summer change of ownership...🤷‍♂️

Our owners have been fantastic and have given Unsworth a competitive budget.

If he's not going to entertain, then he has to win and the pressure should rightly be on from the off.

Agreed he seems to have been given the budget to improve the squad which I think its safe to say he appears to have done so....on paper anyway!

So are you now saying you'd be happy if we play "unentertaining" football but win most weeks?

FFS. It took Wrexham 14 years and a billionaire to get out of this league, Notts County 4 years and a joblot of cash and it's Chesterfields 5th season I think this year who are also splashing the cash.

All this bollocks about we should be getting promoted in style and flexing our muscles is irrelevant!

We just need to win 30 games or so in any way we can and we should go up...end of. Being solid, organised and compact first is the way to go as we have enough up top to score plenty of goals.

I'd take the 1-0 to the Arsenal approach any day of the week if we win 30 games 1-0 and go up.

And it seems like many have forgotten we won 4 and drew 2 of our last six games last season, and have in my view an already more balanced and higher quality squad, so can some people cheer the fuck up!!🙂🌞
