The second game of the season sees more points scored than in the first game and, of course, it’s the first opportunity for some movement in the tables. No attendance points were scored in any division. The gate was so much lower than any of us expected; just 1,915 home fans. At that rate, they’ll all come in the same taxi when they come to Boundary Park.

In the Premier League, oafcmetty and stevesidg led the way with 11 points each, moving the latter up from bottom place to 2nd, but it is still early days. disjointed managed to break his 1-1 habit (shame really, it would have worked a treat!) and that dropped him 9 places down the table. Ex_pat move up 8 places, whilst JoeP and DavidCollinge fell 5 places. Sticking to old principles, singe didn’t post a prediction, but it did him no harm last season.

In the Championship, only 3 players predicted a draw, with Benja the pick of the bunch picking up 8 points, taking over from aidan_latics at the top. BP1960 and yarddog73 climbed 6 places, youngen, HarryBosch and JohnnyPimp were up 5, but josh_latics fell 6 places.

Dave_Og was the best performer in League 1, scoring 9 points, but the highest movers were leeslover (up 9) and maximus1267 (up 8). Going in the opposite direction were Brisbaneblue (down 8) and mick26 (down 7). Brisbaneblue didn’t help his cause by forgetting to post a prediction. As he is probably about 12,000 miles away, he was most likely asleep. L1onheartNew posted “Own Goal” as first Latics scorer. It doesn’t count. Predict a Latics player and, if the first goal is an og, whoever scores the next one (if we manage two in one game) is first Latics scorer.

  2. Ok, injuries. How does anyone know for sure that the training regime is causing the problems? We have fully qualified training and fitness coaches at the club and I would wager they know more about the job and it's repercussions than most of us. Well, rudemedic could probably contradict me on that, but you get my point, I hope.

You can turn an ankle on a kerb edge or a dodgy pavement that will take 6 weeks to heal, never mind an intensive training session involving shuttle runs, twists and turns. I think we've had a really unlucky run.

John Harbin used to all but flog them into submission, but we didn't have this many injuries. Take half of the expected starting 11 out and you'll struggle, unless you've got a squad the size and ability of the Greedy League boys.

That is in no way an excuse for the performance at FGR; the first half was so dire, I could hardly believe what I was seeing. Any of that side should have been able to do the basics and they didn't manage it.

All I'm saying is this. Before the level of vitriol rises to boiling point (it may well have done with some), let's get a couple or so of the walking wounded back and see how we do then. These first two games, with who we had available, is not a true reflection of how we could, and should, perform even though it should have been much better.

  3. That first half was the worst 45 minutes I've seen in a long time. No one could make a 10 yard pass or even make the ball stick to lay it off. I was quite excited when we signed Coke, but you'd think he'd never played the game before.

O'Grady is a huge, but not entirely unexpected, disappointment. I think he won two headers all afternoon and one of those was defending a corner in his own box. On one run he made into their box in the second half, he couldn't even keep the ball within controlling distance of his feet.

Nepomuceno tried hard, but his crosses were just catching practice for their keeper. Even if they weren't, I very much doubt O'Grady would have made much of them. And there was no one else who got any crosses in.

I felt a bit sorry for Graham, slipping as he tried to clear the ball that then set up Reid. Had to be him didn't it? Yes, the back 4 are so inexperienced, but there is something in there that could work with a Clarke type character back in.

I also felt sorry for Bunn. That squad was every fit player we had and included Sheridan and Norris. You don't have much to work with in those circumstances, but I was surprised he didn't bring Benteke on to add a bit of muscle.

There were 5 positives. 1) Iversen saved us from a beating. 2) Gardner worked his nuts off. 3) Baxter is pure class, even when not fully fit. 4) We should be a hell of a sight better when the injured players come back. 5) The samosas were very tasty.

Thankfully, we're only 2 games in, so there's plenty of time to get it right, but it needs a decent loan or free transfer signing or two to replace the dead wood.

He will no doubt be reading all this chatter and relishing every moment.   he is a divisive character who has split opinion.  Time to draw a line under this one and focus on the players who now wear the shirt.

^ This. It really isn't worth going any further. AG has been a twat and abused fans, the club, the town. I would imagine it was more the collective rather than one incident that saw him banned and binned. But it's done now. He's gone and what he says from here on in can be very easily ignored. He'll be back at BP in October and I'm sure he'll get pelters from start to finish. It won't achieve anything other than fuel his desire to slag the fans, the club, the town even more. So is it honestly worth biting any more?

As far as the timing of the club's announcement goes, I think you may find that his 14 day appeal period expired on Wednesday, and the club announced it yesterday so as not to prejudice any last minute appeal by AG. That's it; goodbye Ant, thanks for what you did for us, but you're still a twat for being so unprofessional.

Ok, looks like there will be no reinforcements for FGR and as Mr Sinnott says above,Clarke not training.

Therefore (after doing my homework on Forest Green) my team would go like

                                                                             Iversen

                                Hamer               Graham                        Edmundson                 Hunt

                                             Maouche                    Gardner                         Missile

                                                                   Byrne                        Baxter

                                                                                 Surridge

No room for Branger-Engone or Nepomuceno? And the chances of Byrne playing I would suggest as somewhere between none and nil.

The desire to defend anything the club do is just so weird.

So is beating it with a sodding great stick at every single twist and turn. What happened to balanced arguments? You know, those things that look at the good and the not so good in, hopefully, equal measure rather than lambasting, or blindly accepting, everything that comes out.

  7. WTF is the next moan about? The grass is the wrong shade of green? The sun comes up over the wrong part of the pitch? Honest to God, some of the moans on here really are that banal and stupid. Surely those who post such drivel can't honestly believe what they type and surely do it just for a wind up. What a sad life it must be when all you can do with a portion of your leisure time is try to find something negative so you can have a bloody good moan. Victor Meldrew lives on in many forms.

And considering he can’t tackle (and when he tries breaks bones) I wouldn’t be sticking him defence either

He's a bit of a short arse to be in nets, too, so I've given us an alternative. Should be able to save a few with his gob.

  9. Here we are then, folks, the first tables of 2018/19. For the very first time, we have three divisions, so a big shout out to the 57 players who have signed up :applause1: and a genuine "Thank you" to @Stevie_J for taking care of the monies paid and keeping the players' lists up to date:chubb: . So, what did this first game of the season produce?

In the Premier Leaguejorvik_latic forgot to post a half time score, so missed out on a potential 2 points, given his final prediction of a 2-2 draw :deal:. We then have astottie, who posted an edit at 2:51pm, just one minute after the cut off time. Luckily for him, he wouldn't have scored any points anyway :tongue1:. A bit like missing an open goal only to be saved by an offside flag. GravityGrave and JoeP were top scorers with 6 points, but no one picked up any attendance points.

Top score in the Championship was also 6 points, scored by aidan_latics, Benja and GlossopLatic. The only attendance points were collected by Latics_Fanatic who squeaked in just 98 short of the correct figure.

Six points was also the maximum in League 1, racked up by maddog but, again, no one picked up any points for attendance, so the Boundary Park faithful's excellent turn out of 4,764 did for us points wise.

The final word goes to oafcshuck, who didn't pick up any points at all for two reasons: 1) his predictions were pointless and, 2) he hasn't signed up, so it was a waste of time anyway .

Don't forget, if you spot any errors, don't add them to a thread as we don't check them out on a daily basis, so PM either me or @Stevie_J and we'll look into it. Also, remember to post/edit up to 2:50/7:35 on (League only) match days as any later than that won't count.

  10. August 1950, a month before my 6th birthday, my Dad took me to my first ever game. All I can clearly remember was the other team played in red, there were lots of goals and the crowd was huge. I was captivated from that moment on.

I had to look up who we played that day. It was Rotherham, we won 5-2 (I think) and there was 19,000 there. Thanks Dad. Been a True Blue Latic ever since.

GlossopLatic, HarryBosch, Handsy, Runningman and youngen get a reprieve and take their places in the Championship, as does Lawman who gets the opportunity to compete with arch rival, BP1960, who was relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season.

daniel sneaks into the Championship as the first new player to sign up.

Bottom three in the Premier League and Championship will be relegated.

Top two in Championship and League One will be promoted.

Third to seventh position will playoff for final promotion spot in the Championship and League One.

Extra players may be relegated to reduce divisions to 18 players depending on next season number of players. That means a minimum of three and up to five in the Championship and the bottom three in League One will be relegated to League Two if we reach 66 players next season.

I think this should be 3rd to 6th will play off. Just saying, like. :tongue1::lol:

Cheers Ben. Once I know who is in which division and I've got all the names in the right place, I'll be fine. Appreciate the offer, and I'll shout if I need to.

57 confirmed players, which is the most we’ve ever had and seven up on last season.

Thanks a lot to each one of you.

I’ll confirm the league line-up tonight.

    :chubb:

Brilliant. Once Steve has confirmed who is in each division, I'll get the tables done. Three of the buggers this season! Top effort. Should be done and posted by Tuesday. Where we have a midweek league match, I try to get the tables posted by Monday night.

  14. I can only speak for audio as I don't see the live stream, but it's been fine today with no breaks. I do know that the commentary is a bit behind the game as there is about a 30 to 40 second delay whilst the broadcast goes up to the satellite and back down. Not much you can do about that; see news reports on TV where it takes time before a reporter answers a question. Same thing.
