"I've got a big show in Oldham and one in Austria and one at the end of the year in Tokyo," he said. "The Oldham show is in a major public gallery so it's a lot of work. It's the biggest show I've done."

Not often you'll hear Oldham in the same sentence as Tokyo without there being a price of drink scandal involved!!

That's right J, those of us who went out to that chemical dump on Spike Island heard sod-all as the wind carried the sound away from the crowd - bloody awful - the DJ set from the Konspiracy lot was good before hand though...

Pants live anyway due to Ian Brown's godawful voice. I don't know what they did in the studio to make it sound good but in concert he's woeful.

Its got better these days - the demo's of the early stuff and b-sides are horrific. thought Brown had said never ever

from M.E.N No second coming for Roses

March 18, 2009

A REUNION by Madchester legends The Stone Roses has been ruled out.

There were claims that the four-piece would reform for a 21-date British tour this summer.

But sources close to frontman Ian Brown quashed the rumours which surfaced yesterday.

Solo career

His booking agent said they were `absolutely not true', while his record company said he was continuing to concentrate on his solo career.

The band's bassist, Mani - who joined Primal Scream after the Roses split acrimoniously in 1996 - hinted last year that a reunion was likely.

Reluctant

Former drummer Reni and guitarist John Squire were said to be on board but a reluctant Brown was cited as a sticking point.

Sources close to the band reignited rumours, suggesting all four former members had agreed to a string of gigs to coincide with the 20th anniversary of their celebrated debut album.

A new, deluxe edition has been re-mastered by original producer John Leckie for release this year. Squire, whose artwork adorned the band's album and single covers, is due to exhibit his paintings in Oldham and Austria later in the year. Mani, who is touring in the US, could not be reached.

Admittedly the last time I saw him was at V99 festival. He was marginally better at Reading the year after but he must have bucked it somewhat since then as both times he was ropey as feck.

Never got to Spike Island. I'd planned to but couldn't go being 13 at the time. A year later perhaps! Yeah, from speaking to people that had gone Rummy, it always goes down as one of those legendary had-to-be-there performances (Like Pistols Free Trade Hall, or Nirvana at Reading 1993) but by all accounts it was a bit of an anti-climax. Didn't loads of people suffer from reactions to the toxic waste which got dumped near the area where the gig was? I read something, somewhere about that!

Note to self: "Legendary gigs - were you there?" thread idea...
