Where did it all go wrong? Tony Bugby explains

Recommended Posts

It is an awful article, first and foremost.

For one, he states his main argument is that the loan players had an unsettling influence, yet doesn't talk about their unsettling influence, just to their poor goalscoring records. Any monkey can see that. It's not rocket science - Shez's poor striker signings cost him his job, plain as.

Would it have been wiser to stick with Lewi? Well no, the guy scored in three games all season. Yes, that was more than the loan signings, but when he did play he wasn't scoring and it was the right decision to bring people in to play ahead of him...the players may have not been up to scratch, but the premise of bringing someone in when the team's second striker is struggling to get goals is fair enough.

The guy makes out Shez was to blame...but was he saying this when Shez was in the job? No. Where were the critical articles then? Easy to berate someone when they're gone and can't do you any favours any more.

What smacks the most is how it appeared in many of his reports this year that he wasn't even at the game, just recycling other reports. Yarwood was superb earlier in the season, and when he went the reports went downhill. It's another poor article from a poor journalist to round off a poor reporting season.

HARSH, IMO....Yarwood was tops, no doubt about that...But Bugby is alright...his first one or two match reviews definitely sounded like he wasn't at the game(s), and I dare say he wasn't - he was the Chron's man following City and United until they laid a load off and knowing how redundancy procedures go no doubt Bugby was pretty thrust back pretty damn quickly into covering Oldham after an absence of some years.

As someone who reads the Chron from front to back every night, I'da say that the man isn't Yardwood, but he's definitely alright.

How many did he start?

How many did he play as the link man between the midfield and Hughes (easily his best position)?

How many did we concede in those games where he played in his best position?

Our midfield was far better defensively and as an attacking force for having Lewis Alessandra play in behind Hughes. He was the outlet we needed to take the pressure off and retain possession. He was the outlet that gave Whitaker room to get forward and contribute with goals.

We got more goals, conceded fewer goals and got more points on the board for it.

Left out v Stockport away and it went wrong.

Brought back v Scunny, scored hat-trick.

Bad team performance next game v Yeovil, Alessandra gets dropped for it. Solution: Ormerod, Byfield, Windass etc.

Since then, occasional sub appearance, played as loan striker etc etc. Lambasted when the worm tackled him at Leicester.

The team worked better when he started. Shez would still have a job had he stuck with Alessandra and we'd be playing a game this week where the right result would have been taking us to Wembley.

If there are attitude problems, I'll support any manager for acting on them.

I didn't see them before he was left out at Stockport.

I didn't see that they stood out as worse than the rest of the team during the Yeovil game, 4 days after he smashed in a hat-trick against the league leaders.

Absolutely. There is no indication of Shez letting anybody in the squad take the pee.

If he lets the oldies get away with it and singles out the youngsters ....

... not even going there.
