Violence erupts at London derby

breaking news

Violence has erupted outside West Ham's Upton Park stadium ahead of their Carling Cup game with Millwall.

Eyewitnesses said scuffles involving scores of fans broke out while bottles and bricks were thrown at cars.

One fan texted BBC Radio 5 live to say it was the worst hooliganism he had seen in 30 years.

A Met spokesman said: "It looks like there has been some planned trouble disorder from fans - officers are reacting to the violence."

British Transport Police said they heard reports of minor overcrowding at the Tube station near the ground, but their log shows no arrests.

The BBC's Ben Jacobs, who is at the stadium, said: "The trouble broke out outside the Tube station about 600 yards from the ground.

"There were 500 to 1,000 riot police and Millwall fans managed to break through the divide.

"Bottles were thrown and bricks were as well."

He added: "There has been a bit of trouble inside the ground.

"There was a penalty shout and fans started gesturing and throwing small objects. But police do have this under control.

hes married to popstar jamelia,

I understand he is suspected of stabbing a pop star.

what happened

Linked romantically with British soccer player Darren Byfield, Jamelia lives in a house in Wolverhampton, England. Her two half-brothers fared less well in life: one was stabbed to death and the other charged in a case involving the deaths of two Birmingham women in 2002.

note: darren byfiled did feck all

Be interesting to read Rod Liddell's columns in the Times this Sunday. He's normally pretty good when it comes to matters that matter to the fans but when it comes to Millwall's history he seems to think that calling Lee Hughes a murderer, coming on the pitch 'to have a word' and general thuggish behaviour towards him is no way hypocritical.

Those extra police should already have been at upton park. Surely they knew that there was going to be a massive amount of trouble between west ham and millwall. Jesus, i think everyone with an ounce of football knowledge knew that there was going to be trouble.

Latest at Upton Park from SSN - large scale trouble involving hundreds of fans.

Sounds like there are more playing hand bags than watching the game.

The stand the Millwall fans are housed in holds 6000 fans, only 2500 tickets have been given to Millwall and the rest of the stand has been closed.

If they think its bad now, they should wait until full time...
