yes. March 12th 1961, day after we drew 1-1 at home to Peterboro. Crowds of over 20000 for both matches. I have the programmes for both.

 

p.s. some won't even know who Tommy Steele is let alone he played in a charity match at Boundary Park !

My earliest testemonial memory is Ian Wood's. usXI playing Man City XI and Stuart Hall playing. Not sure who else did.

Well apart from Ian Wood, obviously, before some onesays it!

IIRC he played diff teams in each half

Match was Showbiz XI v Northern Sportswriters XI

 

The former included Billy Wright, Wally Barnes, Dave King, Des O'Connor, Ronnie Carroll and Tommy Steele.

The latter had George Hardwick, Jack Rowley, David Meek, Paul Doherty, Jack Crompton, Tom Finney.

 

If these names mean nothing to you then you're too young!!
