LaticsPete
yes. March 12th 1961, day after we drew 1-1 at home to Peterboro. Crowds of over 20000 for both matches. I have the programmes for both. p.s. some won't even know who Tommy Steele is let alone he played in a charity match at Boundary Park ! Those were the days when BP really rocked (no pun intended) with the noise made by the fans.
Bristolatic
I was there in the Chaddy. I'd completely forgotten about it. Thanks for the memory, Bob.

LaticsPete
who was it against? My earliest testemonial memory is Ian Wood's. usXI playing Man City XI and Stuart Hall playing. Not sure who else did. Well apart from Ian Wood, obviously, before some onesays it! IIRC he played diff teams in each half Match was Showbiz XI v Northern Sportswriters XI The former included Billy Wright, Wally Barnes, Dave King, Des O'Connor, Ronnie Carroll and Tommy Steele. The latter had George Hardwick, Jack Rowley, David Meek, Paul Doherty, Jack Crompton, Tom Finney. If these names mean nothing to you then you're too young!! p.s. It was in aid of these charities: Cancer Relief Fund The Jerusalem Orphanage for Girls The NUJ Widows and Orphans Fund The Blind Baby Home Edited August 17, 2012 by LaticsPete
