I think the main reason Martin took Roy on board was to deflect attention from himself - something that has backfired a bit on a few occasions... plus they are mates, and Roy needed to be in someone’s shadow to rebuild his reputation after some of his own managerial bloopers. As it happens, Jewell was once strongly linked with the Republic of Ireland job... Funny how managerial stock rises and falls. Those dodgy pics probably didn’t help!
