Bump
8 in his last 8 3rd highest goalscorer in the league but again we have to ask ourselves what does James Norwood bring to this team?
We've had a few contenders down the years but I think this thread will upstage the legendary Wellens vs Whittaker thread.
Indeed. He’s on course to score around 25 goals this season.
No player is beyond criticism, but those people jumping on his sometimes sour demeanour or frustration towards his team mates should reign it in and be grateful we have him at our level.- 2

l'm expecting a signing in CM from the EFL on jan 1st. no insider knowelege or owt, jus do.
that spurs guy would also be decent if we could pull that one off, however unlikely.
A ball playing midfielder and a right back/right wing back should be the first couple of players to come in, followed by a proper winger.
Mellon seems to like the 3-5-2 formation, so a player like the Spurs lad (Bowden?) would be ideal alongside Sheron and Lundstram.- 2

l dont think we need to hope for it, it's well within reach. not even a reach!
I’ve faith in Mellon, but not in the current set of players to consistently produce week in week out. However, he knows what he needs to take us forward and reach the play-offs.

Won 5, Drawn 2, Lost 3 in the league since he took over. 6 of the games against top half sides.
Lots of room for improvement, but given the opportunity to bring in 2-3 players in January, Mellon will hopefully have us in that top 7. -
1-1 already…great training session yesterday.

I get the impression that a good few posters on here are beginning to lose faith in his judgment and maybe his overall managerial capabilities. If that's representative of the fan base as a whole, it's not great news.
Also, the obvious persistence of dismal home performances.
If that’s the case, that would say more about the posters than Mellon’s capabilities, in my opinion.

First real indications here that the Mellon regime could end in tears, and sooner rather than later, but I do hope he'll have the resolution to get to grips with the situation and see things through.
Specifically, what are those indicators?

If that’s true that it was the plan, it’s embarrassing. We are the home side
I agree with you. But until we bring in what’s required in midfield, i.e. 2 athletic wingers and a ball playing central midfielder to dominate opposition, we’ll be a counter-attacking team giving teams most of the possession.

Not necessarily right. It is easy to pass past a player standing 3 m away. If that player is closing, he is a bigger barrier and makes me rush. It’s not rocket science.
From what I saw, the plan was to allow them possession until approaching the final third, then close them down which to a degree was working first half. Then we conceded within 3 minutes of the second half starting and it went to shit.

Giving Gateshead the freedom of the freedom of the park wasn't good preparation, coaching or management.
Hadn't he watched them before?
Bring on Kofi Moore for his debut in an unfamiliar position was even worse.
I don't think he knows what to do with this lot and his only hope is to ship out the vast majority and start again.
With these players at Mellon’s disposal, if we’d have played a hard press all over the pitch, Gateshead would’ve played the ball around us and we’d’ve got pummelled by at least 4.

Watched the game today. 2nd best all over the pitch.
They passed us off the park . Their number 4 had all the space and time he wanted, we didn't get near them.
Sutton, pathetic as usual, he's not a RB.
Hudson, better keeper on the bench ??
Moore, can't control the ball at all.
McGahey, no midfielder, what's his purpose. ??
Hogan, a liability.
Many others heartless and not good enough.
Mellon has a enormous task to get this lot into top 7.
Needs to sign some midfielder who can control the game and compete.
Hudson should’ve done better for the initial shot for the second goal in my opinion.
Hogan gave the ball away too many times.
If Mellon prefers the 3-5-2 formation, I’d like to see Sutton in the back 3 with Hobson and Raglan, once we’ve signed that elusive right wingback/right back. -

Strangely that before the Solihull game and for a few weeks earlier, my £5 bet, at 14 to 1 for promotion with bet365, had a pay out of £1.53. After Solihull it took a jump to £2.80.
So the bookies are thinking we have a much better chance now.
7th favourites at 12/1. Same odds for the FA Trophy.

It bloody was!!!
If you say so. We weren’t getting dicked by Solihull. We had little in the way of outlets. I’ve seen worse home and away, and that’s just this season.

Quite poor from both sides first half, but not terrible from Latics as some are suggesting.
Mellon’s change of tactics going more direct into the channels for Kitching and Stones out wide and a harder press in midfield won it for us.

I think the Dowies have strong links with Hendon, was Iain's brother, Bob, manager there? Had a feeling Bob played a part in our non-league signings from that area (Wayne Andrews, Fitz Hall and Ernie Cooksey).
Chesham wasn’t it. Near your neck of the woods?

Yeah, agree that’s very odd.
Probably wanted the 5th one to win it.

Looks like Hogan in at right back.

15-20 minutes for a pitch inspection isn’t it?

from that base u can easy go 442, 451, 352 fluidly and also tactically
An outrageous exclusion of Sheron there Monty

To add, though Fondop missed 2 absolute sitters, his impact was very good. Held the ball up well, won his headers and harassed the fuck out of their defenders.
Wasn’t on the same wavelength as Norwood early on in the game where balls went through to the keeper, but I thought he’s worthy of a start next game.- 4

Standouts for me Gardner, Norwood and Raglan.
Very enjoyable game and a decent following.
Would’ve liked to have seen Willoughby brought on for Fondop last 10 minutes as he was goosed.
Hudson not much to do apart from a great save first half. Starting to look solid at the back now. Interesting to see how he fits Hobson back in the team, as Raglan was class today and McGahey has looked solid and a more vocal captain than Hogan.- 1
