  1. I’d like to see Maher in if he’s out of a job in a few weeks due to the shitshow at Southend, and is willing to relocate. No compo due and a good manager at this level.

If we can afford to pay off another club for a manager’s services though, Williamson would be my no.1 target, though it’d take time to implement his intricate passing style of play with our midfielders.

What makes you think the 2 midfielders he signed are his first choice? He played Shelton & Sheron together in the 2nd last pre-season friendly. I know most people believe that signing them would make them his first choice but Willoughby thought that too.

It’s obvious that Lundstram will be a first choice midfielder. He was injured for that friendly game. Lundstram is a different type of midfielder who collects the ball and runs with it at players, who’ll play alongside Sheron or Shelton.

Ward has more completion to be an automatic starter out wide.

What’s with the mass hysteria surrounding Nuttall too? Why is he the boo boy of choice these days? Cause I watched that game yesterday looking for a player who didn’t look shit scared and negative when having the ball at their feet and Nuttall was one of a few that tried to do something positive in possession, who looked like he wanted the ball. He’s nowhere near the worse player in this team.

Because some incorrectly see his languid style and not running around like Roadrunner as being lazy.

Sorry , but you're clutching at straws . You say DU  has leeway because he turned it around last season  Why , because he tried a different formation ie; 442 , so 1st game this season what does he revert to ? Against a team in turmoil and only had 14 contracted players . We've already lost 2 thirds of our games (yes only 3 games played but if that form is continued we will be looking at relegation not promotion) & 2 of them were against poor teams  & yes it needs turning around now  .Unsworth is an arrogant man who only believes in himself . Harry Kewell was a  far more entertaining manager , yes our defence was shipping goals but you always thought we would score more than the opposition . Don't get the same feeling with Unsworth because he's so damn negative , let the opposition worry about you , instead of worrying about them , apparently we have the squad . get rid before its too late .

Not like he had a lack of striking options though, even under the Lemsagams. Kewell was a terrible manager.

To be fair I’d have let him shoot that far out, it was a worldy.

Was a great incisive pass from Jamie Stott mind, it highlights one of the main things we’re lacking, the inability to pass forward through the middle of the park, everything goes wide for a hopeful cross.

Unsworth claimed in a recent interview that Lundstram, Ward and Green were 3 of his first choice midfielders. How true that is I’m not sure.

You’d think Lundstram and Green are nailed on starters when all are available. Not so sure about Ward. Personally think Dickenson will offer us more when “up to speed”, and hopefully Tollet only used when we’re short.

Putting a positive spin on that "big test", let's remind ourselves that whilst Chesterfield have scored 4 in their two games, they have conceded 3 to the 2nd favourites for relegation and 2 against a mid to lower table side.

    7-4 to us. Denominator.

Indeed, reading some of the Chesterfield fans’ comments they say they’re potent in front of goal but weak in defence.

Yeah, we’re struggling in the midfield without lundstram. I like Sheron because at the very least he puts a shift in, but Shelton is a ghost and Gardner may as well retire. Having said that- we’re twice as weak when we play three at the back. So that only strengthens the case for a flat back four.

Agreed. We don’t have the players to play 3-5-2. In order to play the formation you need the 2 wide centre halves to have pace. Hogan plays central which is fine, but Raglan and Hobson aren’t quick enough for me. Yarney would’ve been ok plus another quick centre half.
Its obviously been done to death that Sutton isn’t a wing back, despite DU’s persistence using him there.

  8. 4-4-2

    GK Norman

    DL Kitching

    DC Raglan

    DC Hogan

DR Shelton (until a new DR is signed)

    ML Dickenson

    MC Sheron

    MC Gardner

    MR Green (if fit)

    STR Norwood

    STR Reid

Subs: Nuttall, Fondop, Hobson, Hudson, Willoughby.

No pace against Southend, Reid and Green give us that, and Gardner in to carry the ball forward (at least until he invariably goes off injured).

They had 2 pre-season friendlies, we had, six was it? They certainly shouldn’t have been as match fit as us. Yet they managed to score 3 goals in the last 10 minutes. Go figure.

I was at the game and when the second goal went in on 83 minutes it looked like some of the players just stopped and gave up, Norman (pathetic performance), Kitching, Sheron, Shelton, Raglan in particular.

  10. Fingers crossed Lundstram is fit to start next game as we had no one who could carry the ball forward and run at players from midfield. Dickenson looked better than the other 2 crabs to be fair to him and linked up well with Norwood and Big Mike.
Slightly concerned about how Southend got in behind us with pace. Individually Hogan, Raglan and Hobson are very good for this level, but Yarney had that extra bit of pace to stay with quick forwards.

The man is a fucking idiot if he cannot see where our problems lie.

Yes we need a RB, but we need a lot more than Lundstram in CM to sort this out. The management/coaching is horrendous. Best pre season possible apparently.

And as for the fans, some absolute nob heads amongst us. Constant vitriol towards Nuttall but not a word about Fondop’s air shot at 1-0. If that was Nuttall, people would be foaming at the mouth.

If Unsworth thinks our only issue is RB, he’s warped.

Agreed re Fondop. He gave the ball away 2 or 3 times within minutes of coming on, but avoids the boos. I like Fondop btw.

Also re the midfield, absolutely no creativity or pace there today or anywhere without Green or Reid on the pitch.
