  1. True but the precedent has now been set with Leeds, if Luton win a sucessfull appeal then Leeds would have a massive claim they were treated un-fairly as they were docked the 15 points for not having a CVA in place by the required date.

Luton are expecting another 15 points deduction for not having a CVA in place on top of the 10 points for illegal payments.

  2. They're expected to lose another 15 for failing to agree a CVA, so are set to start the season on minus 25.

Being docked 10 points is typical FA. The people in charge now had nothing to do with the illegal payments. west Hamdidn't get docked points in the Teves and Mascharino farce, because they had new people in charge. One rule for the Prem and another for the rest. Luton should take it to court if they can afford it.

  3. Now the drummer has moved to the Rocky Road End, I was just wondering, will the Chaddy still be singing?

After all them years it can just stop can it?

I'll be sat as warm as possible watching you lot shiver and drown. You'll have to sing to keep warm. By the way the view ain't that good when it's sunny, the low winter sun shines right in your eyes. You'll probably be OK till November.

  4. How the hell are Bindippers ahead of us?

They havent signed anyone yet and released 4 and lookin to losing there best player!!

    HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF

I think the bookies just go off last season. They don't take account of signings at all. The odds will change depending on how heavy the betting is. If lots off people decide to put loads of bets on Oldham the odds will come down.

  5. I can only find to win and not promotion

Top bet is on Ladbrokes 28/1. Click on the odds for Oldham on the oddschecker link above, and it takes you to the bookies site. If you bet each way you get 1/4 odds for top 3. What is 3rd. though? Is it the team that finishes 3rd. or the team promoted via the playoffs? Betfair will have odds for finishing in the top 3 soon. Therefore you won't lose your cash on us finishing top.

  6. What will be embarassing for the club is if the deal falls through over night.....

I like being kept informed of what is going on but I do firmly belive the club should keep transfers quite until they have signed and the paper work has been processed. Its better for all concerned! I didnt need to know today that we are on the verge of signing someone! I could quite happily have read about it tomoz once it had been completed or fallen through. No big build up or any bollox...just the facts.....

Can't agree, it gets people talking doesn't it. There wasn't a problem last week with Lee and Foster. When someone is actually having a medical and everything contractual has been agreed, then why not pass it on to us.

  7. to be honest though in his first spell i thought he was a great prospect, but when he came back he was a shadow of the player he was previously, even when he got fit he struggled to dictate games - yes he can pass the ball well and link play but he hasnt got the stamina or frame to really run a midfield like wellens has unfortunately.

Yes i was disappointed when he chose leeds but i wasnt angry as i dont think hes THAT great a player, theres certainly more mobile and taller players who do the job he does out there for us im sure.

Oh and the comments that 'i love oldham' were a joke - you dont sign for someone else if you truly have affection for a club, money wouldnt have come into it otherwise and he would have just signed there and then.

cheer neil hope youre happy, please do give us a wave as we pass you by on our promotion bus next year - forgive us if there are no spare seats

Does this also apply to Paul Scholes who left our youth system to join Manure. In this world a footballer needs to make as much money as possible whilst they are playing. Fans won't be their to support them when they retire.

  8. Oh yes. The celebrations started too soon (sort of) at 4-1 with the mexican wave, which apparently, caused the players to relax and let 2 goals in! A definite hand-ball in the area by Milligan was kindly ignored by the ref but he gave Soton plenty of injury time to score an equliser. I used to have the Piccaddily commentary by Stuart Pike and Tommy Docherty. Docherty was calling Le Tiss a lazy git all the time and Pikey was screaming at the ref to blow the whistle for full time. Quality.

It was great that the players and staff were able to do a proper lap of honour for once.

We went straight into town for some heavy drinking except someone (AB100) got a phone call to come home as it was his wife's birthday... Oh dear, bad timing.

It was nice to see the Southampton fans joining in the Mexican Wave. I remember the panic stations on the pitch after they got the 3rd goal, and total disbelief in the stands that we could have let such a commanding lead slip away. How we kept them out I don't know.

  9. £20 to spend a couple of hours sat on a plastic seat in all weathers watching "third division" football is too much for the "floating supporter". Whilst we all know the reasons why OAFC and other clubs have to charge these prices, most people can think of other ways of spending/using their twenty quid. I really think until the game becomes more affordable i.e like in the 60s 70s, attendances will continue to decline and before anyone asks I reckon if it was feasable £10 for adults and £5 for juniors would offer reasonable value for money.

    That's Life

    Lofty

Very true, but football's not going to get cheaper. TV money has to be shared more equally, but the greedy Premiership clubs are never going to agree to it. The FA should bring in rules that 25% of the TV money be shared around the FL. If the Premiership clubs don't like it they can do their own TV deals. Very few would get the money they get now. The top four are the big draw and would be the only ones with real negotiating power. It's crazty that a promoted club from the Championship can be guaranteed £60m for playing in the Prem. Then get massive parachute payments for the two seasons after they get relegated.

  10. Agree with all you say except if we did get into the champiuonship I do feel 8-10k would be achievable on a regular basis due to the increased interest of home supports and the bigger away following that we would certainly achieve.

And is that sufficient to run a Championship club? Most clubs in the Championship get crowds over 15,000 and 5 or 6 get crowds over 20,000. Unfortunately Oldham can only sustain a League 2 team, where we would probably be one of the better supported clubs.I really wish this wasn't the case, but it is. Football on TV cannot be blamed. Granted Sky have games on which finish just before kickoff and start just after the game has finished on Saturday, but I can't see that people stay in and watch these games rather than going to BP. They just don't fancy going to the game and sitting in the cold, and possibly getting wet walking to the ground. Somehow kids need to be attracted to the match week in week out, not just for the odd game.

Why don't we make games free for the under 16's, and £3 for 16 and 17 year olds. Obviously the club would have to have some sort of ID scheme for anyone under 18, so that they would be charged appropriately. It's too late for the coming season because prices have altready been fixed.

  11. Well, anything over £750k area and we sadly have to take note. However, I think could be more valuable to us if we kept him.

If he was allowed to play on the right he could well be worth that kind of money, and £1.5m would then be a silly offer. we need a left winger as good on the left as Taylor is on the right. We'd tear teams apart. But Shez can't see it.

  12. Taken from Simons end of year notes....

I heard alot of peope talking about the money from Everton and Hazel being used to draft in players and some fans thinking we are out of the woods money wise....

Well read the above and bear it in mind over the next couple of months as you start to moan how we arent getting players over Leeds, Donny and Forest etc etc etc

Therefore if we had another 1000 fans in at each home game we would have made a profit. However I would have thought that we had made more money from the cup with prize money and the Evertom gate of which I thought we were entitled to 45%. I must have been wrong.

We will have to wait for the accounts to find out where other money has been spent.

  13. Clegg wasn't too bad although im struggling to remember that far back.

Clegg played a game for Manure in the European Cup, but he was absolute bobbins for us, and finished up in nonleague football. I doubt that he lasted long there either.

Eardley I think could be a good full back if he learns how to pass the ball, because at the moment he doesn't have much idea of how to do it. I think £500,000 would be a good deal. Of the two I prefer Lomax.

  14. ye ive heard it as well, sounds like stam might be off in june which is a shame as although not a world beater he is mainly consistent and gets stuck in, always gives his all.

disappointed with him keeping liddell although he may be used in a different role to rw next season which id prefer to see, give DS and CT the right wing duties.

also sounds like a couple may be getting paid off/moved onto other clubs, 'going to have to make some hard decisions'

interesting stuff, he also states its a big season for us, which suggests he knows if we dont perform well next season he may be under threat..? oh wait thats a bit of a shez out thread, stupid me! :D

Can't understand Shez when he has been saying for weeks that he needs to get the experience of Liddell and Gregan back in the team. Does he forget that these two were in the team at the beginning of the season, when we were playing utter garbage. Liddell is a good crosser of the ball, but that's it. We need someone with pace who can also cross the ball. Two quick tricky wingers create havoc, and pull the central defenders out of position, giving our strikers easier goal scoring opportunities. Crossley is far to injury prone to keep on as first choice keeper. Stam is a steady defender, but playing him with Gregan I'm afraid is not the best partnership. They are both very slow. McDonald is a great squad player, he doesn't moan he just gets on with it when he's out of the team. Thompson I'm afraid has not proved himself at all. He may be paid off, but I guess that he will stay at least until January.

  15. trouble is though, what id season ticket sales slump like they did when ronald was here,it is a real possibility, and also shez is saying he has drawn up a list of potential signings, what if the tta;s decide not to let him have the sufficient amount of cash to sign theses players....and he has to settle for second or even third choice signings.....wouldnt that make you a little fed up and say the board dont have the same ambition???

also if this did happen, and wednesday were relegated, would he go home so to speak to a heros welcome to show the tta;s what he can really do given the right backing.....all hypothetical of course

I should think that there's quite a bit of money been saved up from the Trotman sale, and the cup, which Shez will be able to use. I doubt that he would leave. How many clubs would be rushing to sign him? After all he doesn't have such a good track record yet does he. If he gets us promotion next season then perhaps he would be wanted, but not yet. TTA won't sack him because they will have to start all over again with a new manager who doesn't know the present squad in order to let him make decisions as to which players he needs to keep, and which he doesn''t.

  16. Corney said at the Monday forum he reckoned the council messing around for so long and dragging their heels like they have meant the land had lost some of its value. The stage we're at now we really should have been at a year back.

Had it been a year ago the land would have been valued at what they expected. Unfortunately for us the credit crunch has occurred. Houses are no longer selling, therefore developers will be in no rush to buy new land. I should think most of them have enough land to build on for now until the market picks up again. No developer wants empty houses standing therem, they want to sell them as quick;y as possible for as high a price as possible. No-one knows how long the market will be depressed for. It could be quite a while. Couldn't have happened at a worse time for the club.

  17. Irrespective of how fair the 15 point deduction was, if Leeds were to get any points back at this stage of the season it would be completely unfair on the rest of us.

Firstly, despite being punished for overspending other people's money, they've managed to put together one of the most expensive squads in the division and secondly, how many additional points do you reckon they picked up during their siege mentality start to the season where they felt everyone was against them?

If they get anything back there'll be uproar from any team with a vested interest.

But the court doesn't care about the rest of the clubs. It is just judging the point of law.

  18. Been hearing a few rumours around BP today, some that we've signed 3 including that Yantorno all from Gretna  . Does anyone know if they are true? Or what you have heard about signings.......

These rumours were probably what people had read on this board about it being reported that we are after three Gretna players. However with Wadsworth being at the dround last game and the South American today there may well be some truth in it.

  19. thought long and hard about divulging this info as i reckon it might spark a fair debate, first of all the info comes from a mate of mine and his source is a player, i can personally vouch that it,s genuine, first of all earlier this week latics, through corney signed darren huckerby on loan until the end of the season, however shez was,nt involved in this and when he learned of it he vetoed it,consequently no deadline loan signing and the toys were thrown out of the pram.

also prior to the hudders cup game corney told shez the money was there to go and get a centre forward as a blind man could tell we needed one, however shez said we could cope and did,nt need one.

couple these two instances with the 2 finger incident t,other day and you dont need to be rocket scientist to know shez wont be here next season,

with hudders drawing chelsea in the next round how much did that cost us, i reckon more than half a million

please get george lamb off 6music

    now

If this is true, then it shows that TTA are trying hard to get players in, but Shez refuses them becaus he thinks that TTA are interfering. There are times when he shouldn't be so pig headed and obstinate. He obviously wants to spend the budget his way. Huckerby would surely have been a good signing at our level (better than Constantine), and wouldn't be cheap.
