  1. Personally I would only like to move if the whole of the Chaddy moved not have a few hundred in one and a thousand or so in the other... Realistically I know that will never happen I just find it amazing that it seems that so few people would want the move.......

As for your comments it cant be that worse sitting in there can it.... Its only 100 yards from my current seat is the weather that bad over there B)

It may only be 100yds. but haven't you seen the away fans hudded together as far back as they can go when its raining. I never get wet in the Chaddy, and the wind rarely blows straight into the Chaddy. It will be even worse in the RRE when the New Start Mortgage comes down.

  2. Found this link about away ends

    http://www.thefootballforum.net/forums/ind...howtopic=139626

I think to be mentioned so many times is an achievement in itself considering the stand must be 15 years old now and we have competition from the likes of Leeds, Forest, Donny new ground, Swansea's new ground, Hudds etc

SSHHHH though as we wouldnt want to move our home fans into the best stand in BP.... Change is bad

If they open that stand up to home fans you are welcome to sit in it mate. Nothing to do with change, just the rain and icy wind 20 games a season.

  3. I guess we would have to do some negotiating on this. There's no way they should expect to be paid for goals scored. We did pay £50000 for Beckett as a non returnable fee for a loan wereby they couldn't recall him, but I thisnk Sheffield Utd wanted the fiull transfer fee when we wanted to buy him. Eastwood did well at Southend, but can he repeat it. Is he really a proven goal scorer? Obviously he can't do it in the Championship, or maybe they don't play to his strengths.

  4. So, one would imagine he would be open to staying to the end of the season and will then be a free agent. I've only seen him today obviously but he looks steady and I would really like to see taylor given another go on the right. Also Lomax must deserve time at left back otherwise why have we given him a three year contract ?

I thought that Shez would have done that yesterday. However it mean he must leave out either Allot or McDonald and play 4 4 2. I'm not sure which is best, but I think 4 4 2 works better at home. Away we should stick to the 4 5 1, or 4 3 3 as Shez prefers to call it.

  5. Crossley is a good shot stopper, but anything coming across he is very shaky. A couple of times yesterday he started to come for a cross and stopped. He's got to either stay where he is or come and get it, otherwise the defence aren't sure what he's going to do. If a defender sees him coming out of the corner of his eye, then he expects Crossley to carry on coming out, if he doesn't the defender has problems. We have had better goalkeepers last season and let them go. Beresford is a better keeper than Crossley.

  6. Davies does not have a footballing brain, and unfortunately it's something that can't be taught. If Shez keeps playing this 4 3 3 then Davies is playing where he's told to play out wide to pull the defence apart. Unfortuntely for him he doesn't realise when he must get into the box. He constantly makes the wrong decisions, and I'm sure it's in his head the Hughes is catching him up in goals scored, and won't pass to him when he's in a better position because of that. Someone said lower down the thread that we would only be just above the drop zone without his goals. On the other hand we may be in the top six if he had passed to players in better positions. He also seems to be a player who needs confidence, and the crowd shouting his name will help him a lot. So lets hear it next game.

  7. The answer to the questions you pose is no. The difference as I see it is that Walsall fans don't have the excuse that they've been to Wembley and the Premier League and got the t-shirts, so can't be arsed any more. That's why the chairman and manager despair about their plight.

I regard Walsall as a much smaller club than Oldham. Crowds seem to go with history. Clubs like Burnley, Preston etc. get larger crowds from smaller catchment areas because they have past glories, both used to be teams in the top division for a long time. These days competition from the premiership matters, Walsall have the bigger West Midlands clubs on their door step West Brom, Wolves Birmingham and Villa. Wd have the Mancs., also kids unless they get hooled at some stage, follow the prem.clubs even though they don't go. Wlasall have been relying on loan players, and will do so again as we do, but I'm sure that we have a bigger budget, but I would think that the wages the platyers earn are much the same as ours, with the odd exception..

  8. Excluding FA Cup/League Cup Games I would say the highest travelling support I can recall was at Barnsley, early in our promotion season (September 1990) where we took over, well over ! 5000.

Fewest I have been part of was the less than a hundred at Plymouth, November 1988 (3-0) loss.

I do also recall Latics playing the "Lambs To The Slaughter" at Chelsea in the mid 1980's which was featured on Match Of The Day (Sunday Afternoon as I recall). The camera panned on the huge open terrace behind the goal to reveal a "travelling army" of some 50 or so. Not exaggerating here, does anyone else remember this televised game ?

So what is the highest/smallest Latics travelling support that you have been part of ?

The highest again is Southport 1974. All four sides were full of Latics fans. Their average gate as I remember at the time was around 3000, and I think the gate that day was over 12000. Great atmosphere, we won and the journey back was magic. Coach after coach of us.

The least was probably Orient away in an FA Cup replay. Terrible game, and we were beaten easily by a team I think at the time were two divisions below us.

  9. BY MUTUAL CONSENT! At least we dont have to pay up his 2 year contract. Good riddance!!!!

Unfortunately he was signed on a 3 year contract. This mistake has cost us big time. Should never have given him a contract this long with his history. He'll probably sign for Walsall when he's fit and get another 2 1/2 year deal. Then the trouble will start again for them. Easy to get flashy cars isn't it!

  10. Hmmmm....quite ill-advised comments these, IMO. Adds fuel to those arguing about our ambition. Shez can talk about what we can and can't afford but the facts appear to show we do have quite a bit to spend at present (on comparison to what we've had in the past.)....

We won't be paying for Ricketts wages' (or not most of them)

We offered £120K for KK and him the highest wages at the club (once then an improved deal)

We've pocketed a decent amount of cash from the cup which TTA have said is there for Shez to use

Don't get me wrong, I'm often showing concern at the amount of cash being talked about by us on players. Like that £120K for KK and then his wages. However, for the apathetic Latic supporter or those looking to say we don't show ambition his line "Some of the people I’ve tried to sign were asking for money we can’t afford" plays right into their hands. Surely he should be saying that they're asking for money "we're not prepared to pay." It'd also be a warning to those players above thinking we'll just happily throw good money away on them if they're being told we want you, but not paying that for you. Rather than claiming poverty, as though we would pay it if we had it. It's self-perpetuating.

We have a wage cap to keep to, and it wouldn't be fair to pay massive wages to a newcomer. I was a bit worried about the KK situation. If he had decided to stay, it may have upset one or two of the others, thinking they were as good and wanting the same money. I was thinking that it may have ruined the togetherness of the players at a critical stage. We can't bring people in on £4000 a week never mind £7000, and someone earning that, is never going to accept less than half, until he has to when his contract runs out.

  11. Now then Latics,

Whats your feeling about the game on Saturday?

I think the Town fans on the whole, hope we can win it as that is all that is left of our season.

I think we are all thinking this is going to be one hell of a tight game. Whats your lads take on it?

    All the best

    Ben

It will be a nail biter for both clubs, and a hell of a lot of cash at stake. I think however that our home form has to turn around at some point, but we will miss Hughes. Our defence however is very capable of stopping your strikers, therefore a 3 - 1 win to Oldham.

  12. Right - decided that seeing we are missing out on so many worldbeaters - i'd have a look at all the amazing players who have gone to other clubs in our division... and wow, what a list of talent... so we have the usual Port vale and gillingham panic buying to stave of relegation... but please - someone tell me any other player you think we have desperately missed out on??? (barring KK obviously...)

It is glaringly obvious that anyone who is looking to better thier side has not entered the market - as the better players are weighing up thier options.... or perhaps you too would like to have a squad like Port Vale.....

The better players are also holding out for the money they are asking for. If they don't get it, they will probably decide to stay where they are, or the clubs with the cash will pay up.

  13. I dont rate Taylor that highly. Vernon is nowhere near worth £250k. Taylor is worth no where near £500k.

Vernon isnt even warming the bench much at Blackpool, I imagine cash plus the wage off their wage bill will suit them.

I would say £250k is about right for Taylor, hence why its a good deal.

Do you have the Hughes shirt in orange?

If Tatlor were allowed to play on the right, he would be a much bigger threat, and a better player, and possibly worth a lot of money. Therefore £250k + Vernon is nowhere near enough. What we need is a left winger.

  14. Just found the attached link whilst bored at work.... I know its an age old debate - But I firmly believe the atmosphere would be much better if we moved to the RRE.......

One things for sure I bet the Chaddy End would not be mentioned in this thread if away fans were housed in there....

    http://footballgroundguide.ipbhost.com/ind...showtopic=15647

I'm going back a long time now when we used to get decent gates in the old 3rd division. Away managers used to comment on what an intimidating place Oldham was to go to, because of the noise coming out of the Chaddy. When the seats went in the atmosphere disappeared. Most of the seats were bought by season ticket holders, and most of the central seats still are. People singing are spread around the ground, if the people on the side moved back into the Chaddy things would improve no end. At away grounds everyone's in the same place. It's said that the RRE is the best stand, maybe so, but I ain't sitting in it week in week out, having freezing cold horizontal rain blowing in my face. It would be fairly full on most occasions leaving the people at the front wishing they hadn't bothered to go.

  15. This is the point I have been trying to make. We just dont have the money alot of the time to attract qauility players and when we do get a player with qauility which we can afford, then we face competition from more wealthy clubs in are own division. Shez has a tough task ahead of him... Jan is always a bad time to look for new players....

Exactly, but how are we supposed to compete if we get promoted? The crowds won't be anywhere near big enough, nor will the off field income match anything like the average Championship side.

  16. If someone offered £500k you wouldn't see his imposing ass for dust he would be shipped out of BP so quick...

£500k + sell on clause for a player who wasnt near the first team at the start of the season... errr, yes please... will cover our playing staff budget deficit (porter), and secure our other players from needing to be sold... then bring the next young'un through...

£500k is peanuts for him. Could we sign someone as good for the same money? I don't think so. How much of a sell on have Burnley negotiated? We may have to pay them 25% of any fee we receive.

  17. They do me to. They'll be their if we reach the 3rd round and draw a Prem team won't they. As season ticket holders they'd get in 1st as well. I reckon vouchers should be handed out in the 1st 2 rounds if we are at home. If season ticket holders haven't got them, they should have to take their chances with everyone else.

  18. I always remember watching the TV highlights of the game at Villa. We had to win our last 3 games of the season to stand any chance of staying in the Premierhip. The 3 games were Villa away, Liverpool at home and finally Southampton at home. We were winning 1 - 0, with only minutes remaining and we had a throw in just inside their half. Then there's Jobbo passing through the camera shot on his way to their penalty box. Typical of the time, he should have been staying back to protect the lead, but that wasn't the Latics way, we had to go for another goal. The whistle blew a few minutes later, and as everyone knows we went on to win the next two games despite a real scare against Southampton. Happy days.
