I found it mildly amusing when Pete Wild trotted out in one of his interviews that annual mantra "this year we need to get our business done early in the close season" Pete isn't even there.
Wellens said the same before the end of his season.

How would you rate our chances of making an appointment of someone whose last job did work out?
Probably zero.

As long as we serve up better than that drivel in the ECL final, I will be happy
Yes it was a terrible game. Liverpool couldn't string 2 passes together, but were more dangerous in front of goal. Lots of hoofball from both teams.

Rather selective. This guy is far too good for us.
He was linked with Real Madrid once. Mourinho rates him as does Rafa Benitez. Was also linked with Forest in 2018. But the OWTB lads think he’s shit... so he must be.
Doubt there is anything in it all.
I wasn't inferring that he is no good. Just that his last appointment didn't work out

He has quite a bit of experience in the Spanish lower leagues, which may be of benefit in recruiting Spanish players he is aware of, as long as they aren't like Vera. They may have trouble acclimatising to Ice Station Zebra though. He didn't do very well at Las Palmas in his last job, only 3 wins from 14 before being sacked after 6 months.

In an ideal world &/or under normal circumstances (I know, I know) we’d be looking to replace Clarke with a slightly younger version - either at CB or CM - I.e. experienced, leader, quality player on his way down from a higher level due to age. Probably out of contract.
Anyone know of any players out there that would fit the bill?
Or is this an archaic English concept that sees us held back by having an old man on the downgrade in the side rather than someone younger who has far more potential to both improve us as a team and be sold for decent money?
We need both someone experienced as you say, and a young player with potential. Neither Hamer or Iacovitti are up to it without someone with experience next to them.

Little wembley is not part of the FLG buy.
The Trust are aware of the previous section 106 that Sporting England placed with regards to compensation at the time if little wembley was lost. Compensation was for a 3g pitch with floodlights at cathedral (not chapel...I had to look up where it was..near North Chadd school where Chadd FC are now). It is not relevant now...however little wembley is on the ACV plan so Trust would have to be notified of any changes.
I'm confused now. I thought the FLG group were buying out Brass Bank (ie. the land) and the OEC. Are they buying Chapel Rd., or is that still to be owned by Brass Bank? What exactly are they buying?
Notifying the Trust that they were going to build houses there, wouldn't stop them building on it though would it.

Not at all. It's quite clear. As mentioned, if the budget is simply bigger then this season, the phrase '100%' is not needed.
Some people say 100% to make what they have said clear. I agree there is no real reason to say it, but they do.
eg.
Yes the budget will be bigger than last season, 100%.

Could be worse Gigg Lane Stadium has been closed until further notice. I guess all the staff have been laid off. They are in real trouble.
-
I've just listened again to the BO interview and at the end he says that Blitz wanted to build houses on 'Little Wembley' at one time. The FGL buying the land, would put an end to that happening. He also says that an investigation is ongoing into the previous owners running of the club, which he says will take a long time, but hopefully things will be clearer in 3 months. I suspect the outcome of this may lead to a court case, once all proof has been gathered. I do wonder though, who is carrying out this investigation.

We are now the only league club other than Ipswich not to gain a promotion in 25 years and also one of only 8 clubs not to have played in the new Wembley. The other 7 are -
Accrington
Blackburn
Bury
Colchester
Crawley
Ipswich
Notts Forest
This is how it feels to be Oldham.
I would prefer automatic promotion any day to having to go through the playoffs. Although it's good to have a day out at Wemley and win. It amazes me that a team that comes 7th. in this league can make more money from the playoffs than a team which has won the league.

Benefits of altitude tend to start at around 1500m. I'm sure all decent pub quizzers know there is no where in the UK or Ireland that high.
I may be wrong, but don't most clubs, especially in L1 and 2 go to Portugal or Spain usually at sea level. It's supposed to be for team bonding as well as training, and if like us, the whole team is not their because recruiting has not been completed, it's pointless. The top Prem clubs just go off on lucrative tours to promote their brand.
-
Ah well another season in L1 for me. I was much nearer with the attendance for once, but not near enough to force a draw.
Congratulations Nohair on your promotion.

Pretty much this.
Wanted Macc to have a pre season training camp in the Italian mountains... couldn’t understand why that’s a problem.
If that's what he thinks a club like Macc. needs, he needs to pay for it out of his own pocket. These foreign training camps, don't work any better than local friendly's. In fact the married players with kids probably prefer to stay at home. In our case, and probably Maccs. as well, quite a few players are signed after they would be back home.

Today's the day.

It's what we've always done
And look where we are in the league structure. Good young players have to be found every season if the strategy of selling them is to work. But the way the Prem. clubs can gobble them up for peanuts these days I don't think we have a chance at youth level. We need to try and do what Posh do and actually spend money on non league players for a decent fee, and sell them on, or on AL's non league French connections.
-
If he manages to get good young players in, then sells them, how can we get promotion or build a squad. If he wants to get to the Championship in 5 years then good players have to be kept. This is the Crewe model that may work for the odd season or two when we get lucky with players we can sell for big money, but it soon goes and we end up back at square one. Crewe managed to get to the Championship but on the whole are a L2 side.

100% better can only be taken one way IMO, so we have double the budget #walktheleagueisbackon
I doubt it. Most likely the alternative mentioned above. AL is simply stating that the budget will be more than last season.

Big Sol incoming shortly unless he changes his mind.
I'm not surprised he's applied as Macc may be heading for admin., and that would almost certainly relegate them next season. Mind you that could be us as well, so he could be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire with the Lemmys.

I'm chuffed that I've made the final, chuffed to bits even... I almost have my mind made up on my prediction too... I better just not forget to post the bloody thing again!
Thanks for the good wishes Maddog. The prediction league has been great fun - including the drama that befell me on Sunday evening I suppose!
I never thought that I would make the playoffs, let alone a trip to Wembley in my first season. May the best team win.
