  1. I have seen Ricketts shaking his head on numerous occasions at the service (or lack of it) he is receiving from the wing(s). He, at least, is taking up the position which would be effective should the ball ever get anywhere near him. I was a Ricketts doubter at the start of the season because I listened to the comments from other clubs (Leeds, Preston etc) instead of forming my own opinion. I apologise for that Michael (if you read these posts). He is still struggling for match fitness and 70 minutes is about right currently. He is playing in a team that doesn't seem to be able to play to his strengths with a strike partner who I repeat, is not on his wavelength. Put Wolfy up alongside him and lets see what happens. It's got to be no worse than what is happening right now!!!! You never know. It could be another Heskey/Owen strike force.
  2. Personally, I don't think that Davies has the necessary composure to be a goalscorer. Then again, because of his use of the ball, I'm not sure he would be a decent winger either - he needs to get his head up more and pick a pass rather than trying to dribble through the whole defence or shoot through a pack of defenders. I believe that with time Davies will be a goalscorer of high quality. There is nothing wrong with his heart or ability. It's just that it's all a bit too frenetic at the moment. Composure will come with experience and I think that is what Sheridan is trying to bring to Davies' game. The munber of times I've seen Sheridan pointing and saying "Clam down Calm down" beggars belief. Davies will eventually start to listen. Then watch him...
  3. Then tell me why he continually pulls out wide, invariably falling over Taylor who is also playing out of position in my opinion (humble as it is). He has spent more time closer to where I sit than the goals up to yet this season.
  4. Its strange, but I got a sweat on just typing the word Gym. It would be a bit of a trek to BP just to use the Gym. It is well worth it on match days though.
  5. I know that. Also have you seen the size of those Mars Bars they sell now. I'm going to have to join a gym!!! KTF
  6. It will be nice not having to lean three feet to the right to see the RRE goal because of the Piller to the right of my seat. I keep spilling the filling out of my pie... All that is important is that we get an unrestricted view of the pitch and the game. Would sit on an orange box to do that. KTF
  7. You've just got to keep posting your opinion to maintain the balance. Thats why this board was set up (I think). KTF (In Ricketts, Davies et al)
  8. I don't think any one is saying the Leeds fans wern't welcome, they made for a cracking atmosphere. It is just about where they ended up being sat. I for one have no problem sitting ar standing next to away fans if they are true football fans. It is great when adults from different clubs can sit and discuss football. I was in the Chaddy end when we beat Manure Utd 1:0 and one of the reds put his cigarette out in my face because we had scored and I cheered. That's the kind of thing which drove me into the Main stand and thats the kind of thing people worry about when fans are desegregated. When my son started asking to come with me to the latics I made sure we were sat amongst latics fans. It's unfortunate but true, people are concerned when they find themselves sat next to opposing fans. I hope to get to Cheltenham at weekend and will be using a good mates spare season ticket in the home end. Because I know him and the group of people he sits with. If only that could happen everywhere.
  9. I believe that the strike pairing and how they work together give the impression to the Fans. Ricketts and Davies are not gelling at the moment because Davies is not playing to Ricketts strengths. Ricketts holds up the ball and also gets the flicks on through defences. Davies looks to pull wide at every opportunity, yes... I know he see's himself as a winger!! (I don't know why because Sheridan has obviously told him to play through the middle, but he won't or can't.) I really believe Sheridan should give Wolfenden a run alongside Ricketts just until Davies gets his touch and confidence back. Wolfenden appears to enjoy bursting through onto the knock downs and has shown already he has the confidence to take on the shot. I like Davies and believe he has enormous potential but the two of them are not working at the moment. I was one of the first to question Ricketts signing but have been increasingly impressed with his application and skill. His fitness is not quite there yet but he is still currently more effective then Davies. KTF
  10. OOOHHH, is THAT what that guy was doing with his head near to Crossleys groin. Had me thinking for a minute!!!!
  11. There were several groups of Leeds fans sat in the Main Stand last night. They were silent until they scored and it was only then that we noticed they were there. I have been told there was some trouble at the RRE end of the MS at the end of the game. Don't know if this is true though.
  12. As far as Ricketts goes, he had a good game last night. He got the flick ons and generally held the ball up well. I was one of those who had my doubts about him at the start of the season but credit where it is due, he just needs a strike partner who is on his wavelength. Davies looks to me to be low on confidence. He is not thinking when he gets the ball. Rather than trying to beat two men to set himself for the shot he needs to play the simple pass. He is a good player but needs to rebuild his game right now. I was gutted at losing 1-0 but when I was driving home I thought, If we play half as well as that at home for the rest of the season not many teams will take points off us. I just hope that that result didn't cause the lads heads to drop. It must have been doubly gutting for them to lose like that. As for Gregan, he was immense last night. I don't even lay an responsibility on him for the goal. There were enough players back to have closed down the scorer. One of those things I suppose. Tired legs and tired minds. Leeds played two different games last night. First half they played the long ball but didn't get any joy out of Gregan and Hazell so changed it round in the second half and tried going out wide with the No 7 being used more and more. My major concern is that the Leeds Keeper didn't have a shot to save all game. The nearest we came was Ricketts glancing header in the second half. Kilkenny fired in two excellent crosses from the left hand side which no one got on the end of. When the defence and attack fire together we will be formidable. KEEP THE FAITH.
  13. If I may. I would like to say that I was sat next to the Guy who started up "Ooh when the blues" in the MS We joined in with gusto and got behind the guys. He was about 45 years old and I am 50. I looked round and saw that quite a few of us wrinklies were singing. I had to have a lie down afterwards and have a blood pressure check though!! Oh, and a balti chicken pie.... It right takes it out of you...
  14. The entire Main Stand WAS in tucks of laughter,, It was so obvious what he had done. His backward throw will go down in Latics folklore. It will probably end up with him having thrown the ball right over the Lookers stand roof!!! (So the story will go).
  15. A Gentleman and a scholar. Keep the Faith Gary and we'll all keep it with You!
  16. Because Leeslover, part of the football experience is to bring your Kids with you and see their faces light up when you get excited at your teams performance. My Dad used to stand me on the crash barrier and hold me up there in the RRe to watch his and my heros Whittle, Blair, Best, Groves etc etc. I was four when he first took me to Latics. It would not have been the same had we not stayed together. It was some time before he let me go down to the front wall to see the action closer up. About a season I think, which in itself was a right of passage. There is a woman who's son is about 5 and they sit at the side of us in't main stand. He has a beefer of a time during the game, not just watching the match but also watching all us idiots jumping up and down screaming at all and sundry. To sum up. Take your kids along to the BP as soon as they can hold their heads up independantly. If you need to go for a pee ask the person next to you to watch them for a minute (Or a Steward if your not happy about doing that) We're all part of the football family and I would hope we all would like to encourage the young un's as soon as we can. You can't get kids interested in pies and Bovril soon enough.
  17. What do you get if you cross an elephant with a mouse. Bloody big holes in your skirting board!!! What do you call a deer with no eyes? No Idea What do you call a deer with no eyes and no legs. Still no idea. What do you call a woman in the middle of a tennis court? Annette!
  18. Keep going with the stopping Wozz (if you get what I mean). I always used to say "He's to small to be a good keeper" and then he would usually pull out a string of saves to ensure I had to show my backside to the Chaddy. Always set himself up properly which made it look as if he had plenty of time. No Andy Goram but a belting keeper nonetheless. Wonder what he's doing now
  19. What about Balti chicken pies. I mean, surely to God you can get a Balti Chicken pie. The football experience is severely diminished by the absence of a Balti Chicken Pie!!!!
  20. You see Diego, the madness catches us all in the end. I think the scarf out of the window died when clubs started selling the flags on plastic flagpoles which you clip over the glass. I just lie my scarf across the back parcel shelf these days. Stops all this northern smog dirtying it!!!
