  1. Just thought he was speaking with hindsight at the end of this season. Was worried he knew something we didn't. You never know, he could have been in the Tardis and let it slip.....
  2. I have to say that I don't think the expectations during the summer were over hyped. This team minus two players reached the play offs. The signings made during the summer were not journeymen players. They were exciting to a degree. Even Ricketts (who is approaching the twilight of his career, could have done a good job had he been able to mix better in the dressing room. ) Davies, Hughes and Kalala were all good signings IMO. When KK and Bertrand also turned up at the doors things looked rightly on the up. The situation now is somewhat different. KK and Berty gone. Davies struggling with form etc etc but still we get draws away from home and take the scalps of Leeds and Everton away. We hadn't even hit form at this time last season. KTF.
  3. To be honest. Clubs are usually grateful to their supporters suggesting, scouting or introducing players to them. Amateur scouts are one of the best sources of players, particularly at this level. Sheridan and his staff can't be everywhere. It does no harm making suggestions about any player to the club. Certainly can't hurt...
  4. I don't think it matters what the game is about (Play offs, FA cup or whatever.) As long as the lads on the pitch do the biz, the crowd will sing and cheer...
  5. My thoughts on the Chaddy end and its accoustics are well documented. However I would never advocate moving to the RRE for the following reasons. BP has a slope on it which runs down from the RRE to the CE. It is usually advantageous to play with the slope in the second half of a game and the players prefer playing towards their own fans in the second half. Keep it as it is but open up the roof. Theirs nowt wrong with the singers. It's all to do with the pitch of the roof.
  6. xbox 360's PS 3's Sky Tv with wall to wall matches. Cost of tickets. Intolerant fans Stewards All seater stadia. Expecting the players in Div 1 to be at the same skill level as those in the Fab four in the Premier. Some but not all the reasons for our young un's not being bothered....
  7. Excellent comments and sentiments KC. I agree heartily. There are a couple of points I would like to add. The Tics play some of the best football in this league which wouldn't be lost in the Championship. Anyone who saw the second half away in the cup at Doncaster must agree with that. Some of the football played in this division has impressed me no end. It's inconsistency which frustrates me. The squad we have should be sufficient for League 1. It just needs tweaking. We also need to improve our home form and the sooner the playing staff and management realise that success on the pitch will encourage the fans this will come. Yes I know that we should shout and sing on the terraces but it is honestly difficult to do so when you can see the potential on the pitch but not the application..... I stand up for forty minutes before every game in BP tingling with anticipation and excitement, shouting down at Chaddy the Owl and the players to get us gee'ed up, but all to often after twenty minutes into the game I feel deflated. I don't want to feel that way but I just do. It's the suffering that comes with being a true Supporter I suppose. I then come on here to debate the issues of the day only for some other Supporter to attempt to claim the high ground and try to tell me not to bother coming to BP because I am obviously not a real supporter. It will be a sad day when every person on here trots out the same (I am the only real supporter crap) tale. KTF
  8. Here here... My head is still reeling from the personal attacks made in the name of Latics. All for saying I was fed up with the way a certain player was performing. It takes all sorts to support a football club (Yes I did say support) but very few to drive those supporters to places like Old Trafford, City of Manchester Stadium, Town Square Shopping centre etc etc... Make your point. State your argument but leave the personal stuff aside...
  9. For Gods sake. Does it matter???? If 10% of those so called (your words not mine) fans like what they see they may keep coming along. The money they pay for their tickets is just as good as yours. Lets just get behind the team, Fairweather fan or not...
  10. In order of attendance Swansea Home 2-1 Mansfield 4-1 doncaster Rovers FA cup 2-1 Leeds Utd 3-1 Everton 1-0 Wasn't there but don't care.
  11. Agree Sav but dont you find it a little difficult to keep crumbly on the bread. Even when smothered in lemon curd?
  12. Typical english centre forward. Never liked his tactics. He was all elbows and headbutts. Got to admire his goal to game ratio though. He was a real handful to play against I would imagine. Alan Shearer. Premiership Games: 344 Premiership Goals: 221 Number of games taken to reach 100 Premiership goals: 124. Most recent info I could find.
  13. wasn't there a young lad who was Mascot the ether week when we had a couple,. Was passing better than Kilkenny during the warm up. I seem to remember him being attached to someones academy though. It might have been mentioned by announcer (Who's name has totally escaped me at this moment. Its the Dementia you know).
  14. Mentioned that fact on MOTD and said that the fans were queing round the ground for tickets after the announcement
  15. Usually try to get to our local park every week to watch Hebden Bridge Red Star. Weather and flooding permitting. Try to get a couple of Halifax or Rochdale games in each season. Would never turn a ticket down to any game anywhere. Even Old Trafford. Get to as many Engerland games as I can. Two so far this past twelve months.
  16. None taken. Although I did begin to doubt my own sanity at one point.
  17. Bit harsh don't you think. That is almost like wishing MRSA onto a nurse... So he screwed us over (Or rather his agent did) As said. We just need to hope he signs for a club who we meet in the cup. You can moan at him then..... Hopefully not during the game though.
  18. To the 22 players out there on the pitch it is a sporting occasion. They partake in the game. They entertain me and others with their skill, commitment and ability. That is what I mean. Are you telling me you would continue to attend if the players just stood around playing keepy uppy for 90 minutes. Passionate fan or not...? The pundits, managers, players and owners all agree that they are in the entertainment industry. Success puts bums on seats. quality of product etc etc. Failure does not. I along with many others have no illusions about the standard of football at BP. I just expect the people employed on contracts by the club to do a job , to do just that. Their job... I am also passionate about my club. Great debate though.....
  19. Thank You Diego. I heartily agree. I also am a little confused about peoples ideas of what is an acceptable standard at Div 1 level. All I want to see is those players out on the pitch trying their best. I don't moan at the time. I come on here and moan. I thought that was what it was for this site. It seems that some people want to personalise the issue on here now and not debate. Ah well.....
  20. Quite pathetic really that you cannot understand the similarity between one part of the entertainment industry and another. To you it may be a matter of life or death but to others its entertainment. I happen to enjoy the game of football and support my home town club because it was the one my dad took me to. The use of the Theatre and Restaurant similes were to make a point.....
  21. I never look at People who are singing like that and usually join in. I am older now so feel a little self conscious when trying to start the singing. I never berate the players whilst they are playing and come on sites like this to discuss the game and its good and bad points. Its just that other posters seem to think their view is the only one which is correct. I didn't even shout anything at Davies on Saturday. Just sat with my head in my hands......
  22. Let me ask you this question. Now that I have calmed down a bit after the debacle that was Saturdays performance. If You went to the theatre expecting to watch a play starring Brad Pitt (Just an example) and what was actually served up was a question and answer session by John Prescott. You would be rightly angry and demand your money back. If you went to a restaurant, ordered a curry and got fish and chips. You would be rightly angry and demand your money back. If you went to watch your favourite band (e.g. Keane) and Blur came onstage you would be rightly angry and demand your money back. Are you getting my drift. I went to a football match on Saturday and expected to see 11 players play with skill, passion, determination and pride in the shirt. Unfortunately one of them (In my personal opinion) failed to do any of them for the majority of the game. I was angry and wanted to demand my money back. However I had to temper this with the love I have for my club who need the money in difficult times. Any one who wants to accuse me of not being a true supporter, heres your chance. I expressed my anger and indignation at the time and here on this message board as did others. I also watched Sheridan and Wright spend 90 minutes berating the players out on the pitch so your post needs to be sent to them as well. I will (hopefully) be sitting in my seat in BP long after the likes of Sheridan, Davies, Hughes, Allott et al have moved on and I will encourage, clap, cheer and boo in equal measure. That is a true supporter. One who supports their club through all the times and does not wear rose tinted spectacles where the team is concerned. I call it has it is (In my view) honestly and openly. They will not improve if we are not honest. It is after all the entertainment industry isn't it?
  23. Here Here. I have to echo these words. I am no less a supporter than anyone else who comes to the Latics. JP seems to think he has the only relevent view on this. I sing occasionally and discuss with all those around me football matters whilst applauding the good bits and berating the bad bits. Thats my right as a paying customer.
