  1. Rest in peace, Ernie. Our thoughts are with you and your family. Bless you.
  2. Look out, Venus. Tammy is out to get you. A great day for Thai sport. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7481483.stm
  3. I never saw Ernie play for the Latics but my thoughts are with him and his family at this time. Judging by the comments on here he was a decent and honest professional who loved the game and was loved by all who watched him play. This is such a tragic story. Bless you, Ernie.
  4. You Tube isn't working for me. Every time I try to watch a video I get the message, "We're sorry, this video is no longer available." Does anyone know why this might be and what I can do to be able to put this right? Thanks.
  5. And, I bet, she's regretted it ever since!! Does she still have the t-shirt?
  6. Nick Henry's goal, along with Mike Cecere's against L**ds, was just outside my 5 in category 1. However, seeing the "greatest ever English player" score a fantastic own goal at the Chaddy End is too good to leave out!! He may well be the only English captain to have lifted the World Cup but I'll always remember him more for his diving header!!
  7. Funny really but if it wasn't for the Latics connection "Mouldy Old Dough" wouldn't rank very highly on my list of favourite tunes, probably somewhere between "Shaddap Your Face" and "Agadoo" but it is one of the most evocative pieces of music in my life. It takes me right back to my chidhood and discovering the joys (?!!) of supporting Oldham Athletic. I remember coming back to England during our difficult period a few years ago. I dug out my old scratched copy and made a tape of it to play in the car. We played it over and over again on our way up to BP from my parents house in Burton on Trent for the season's opener against Brighton, a match we all thought that we'd never see. Sorry if these seem like the ramblings of a sad old git but.........who needs "You'll Never Walk Alone" when we've got "Mouldy Old Dough"?!!!
  8. I vaguely recall posting on a similar thread before that the only "musical accompaniment" to a goal being scored when I were a lad, was the fans of the team who'd just conceded chanting, "You're gonna get your f%@$in' 'eads kicked in." And, as much as I hate violence (or even the threat of violence), I'd rather hear that than a snippet of a pop song over the pa system.
  9. Apologies if this has been done before but what are everyone's five favourite Latics goals in the following categories? 1. Matches you were at 2. Matches you watched on tele or listened to on the radio/internet Mine are : 1. Neil Redfearn's penalty v Sheff Wed Maurice Whittle's penalty v M*n U*d Ian Marshall's second v Ipswich Town Neil Pointon v M*n U*d at Wembley Bobby Moore's OG at BP 2. Andy Ritchie's late equaliser at The Dell Scott Vernon's winner v Th*ksin Town in the FA Cup Gary McDonald v Everton in the FA Cup Andy Ritchie's penalty v West Ham Darren Beckford v Bolton in the FA Cup quarter final
  10. As a more "mature" Latics fan (albeit one who hasn't been to BP for 5 years) "Mouldy Old Dough" gets my vote everytime. However, as someone who doesn't like "goal music" the poll is useless to me; it won't let me vote without choosing a song from the second option. Any chance of adding a "No Song" category for after we score a goal? It's really strange to think that a lot of people who contribute to this message board have never known a time when goals were greeted by the roar of the crowd alone!! Eeee, them were the days!!
  11. Sadly I won't get to see much of it as most of the games will kick off in the middle of the night. I did watch last night's opener as none of the Thai channels were showing Bahrain v Thailand (11:30pm k.o. local time) but two of them featured Switzerland v Czech Republic. What's the coverage been like in England?
  12. I was due to visit England anyway but I once brought a flight forward a couple of days so I could watch the Latics U19s play the Thai U19s at Witton Albion. The match was broadcast live on Thai TV and I still have the video that someone made for me. I can see myself, my wife and my mate almost every time the ball is played out to the wing. So, it was worth it!! Oh, and I also got to meet Andy Ritchie, who had just been sacked by Oldham, but had turned up to watch anyway. A great bloke!
  13. Th*ksin Town and M*rk H*ghes. Bloomin' 'eck!! I only need Th*tcher added to the mix to make them the most hated team of all time!!! Maybe she could replace Micah at full-back!!!
  14. I seem to remember that they once took a survey of people who live in "new" counties. The people of Cumbria (which is made up of parts of Lancs, Yorks, Westmorland and Cumberland) were most accepting of their new status. When I was living in Kendal I found this to be true; Kendalians would refer to themseves as Cumbrians. However, our postal code was LA (that's Lancaster not Los Angeles!!). I'm not really sure what this proves other than postal codes bear no relationship to where you live. Growing up in Staffordshire I too had a Derbyshire postcode. This has always irritated me and I used to leave it off any correspondence I entered into to! Incidentally, I am a Lancastrian. Although I can appreciate that anyone born in Oldham after 1/4/74 may consider themselves a "Greater (Than) Mancunian"!! But, as the man said, "It's not where you're from. It's where you're at."
  15. To the tune of "Robin Hood" and with apologies to Monty Python : Ronnie Moore, Ronnie Moore, galloping through the sward, Ronnie Moore, Ronnie Moore, and his horse Concorde. The ball's in the air, Never on the floor, Mr Moore, Mr Moore, Mr Moore.
  16. ผมไม่เก่งอังกฤษไม่รู้จะตอบอะไร
  17. Thai Chinese businessmen do not like spending money. That's how they become rich (in my opinion, there are other factors in Th*ksin's case!!) and stay rich. I've worked for a couple of Th*ksin clones and, believe me, they are all the same. Incidentally, how satisfying was it to see "The Pride of Thailand" playing in front of such a sparse crowd in BKK last weekend. We were wetting ourselves
  18. If you mean this guy : http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1211204/ And this one : http://www.pauledwardscomedy.com/video.htm Then, yes.
  19. The same Martin Buchan who ended Colin Bell's career. He's not the most popular man amongst the C*ty fans.
  20. Didn't L**ds U*d start all this new badge nonsense with their '70's style "smiley" logo? And, slightly off topic, did any other clubs adopt our Yorkshire friends sock number tags idea? I can't remember anyone else doing it.
  21. My grandad always claimed that Paul Edwards used to be his paperboy. I had no reason to doubt him!
  22. He's got to find the money to pay for Maradonna, Pele, Cruyff, Eusebio and Peter Crouch from somewhere!
  23. Th*ksin and C*ty deserve each other. I've said it many times before. He is the most odious man I have ever had the misfortune of coming across. The C*ty fans who idolise him really should be ashamed of themselves. If he had bought the Latics, I would have stopped supporting them. That is how strongly I feel about him. The English FA should hang their heads in shame for letting him "buy" into English football. I speak as someone who has a grasp of Thai culture and the Thai mentallity. I really hope that C*ty implode and are playing Northern Premier League football in 3 years!!! In my opinion, Th*ksin is pure evil. May he rot in Hell.
