  1. I was listening to Saturday's 606 this morning and Alan Green said something along the lines of, "Trevor would happily kick a few "bottoms" at the FA if he had the chance." Maybe he's as frustrated as we are-but better paid!!!!
  2. However, he may need an interpreter should he venture over the border into Swad!!
  3. As someone who plied my trade on the muddy fields of Shobnall for more years than I care to remember, I've always known that Burton is the centre of, not just English but, world football. I just wish they'd get on with it and we can all reap the benefits!! And, the Brewers will go up this year!! Forward with BALLS!!!!
  4. Th*ksin Town, at home. Please, please, please, please, please!!!! I'd love to be able to give the square faced #$%^ a battering!!!
  5. From a purely selfish point of view, I would LOVE Th*ksin Town at home!! I would even consider flying back just so I could give old Square Face some stick!! (In Thai of corse!!!)
  6. I've added my message of support on another thread but there's no reason why I can't add it here!! All the best and good luck to everyone who will be marching on Saturday. Thailand is right behind you and I'll be with you in spirit. Chok dee
  7. Great stuff and respect to everyone who will be marching on Saturday. I'll be with you in spirit. I just hope that it makes certain people realise the depth of feeling there is for "our" club. I also hope that there's a decent turnout at BP for the match. And, of course, a much needed Latics win!! Upwards and Onwards!!!!
  8. Along with Clive Llloyd and Faroukh Engineer, Maurice was one of my first sporting heroes. I have so many happy memories of him as a Latics player. I remember me and my friends all buying green American style football shirts, from Tommyfield Market, with the number 3 printed on the front and the back in his honour. We also used to have "Maurice Whittle" penalty and free kick competitions when we were only allowed to kick with our left feet. This is why I'm two footed to this day!! And why I still wear the number 3 shirt when I play. And why my Latics retro shirt from TOFFS has his number on the back. His goal against M*n U*d in December 1974 is etched into my brain. He never really used to celebrate after scoring but, on this occasion, he went mad, racing away and being chased by the rest of the team. One particular event sticks out in my mind. I pegged (there's a word I haven't used for 35 years!!) off school to watch the Latics train. I stood outside the main entrance waiting for the players, to get their autographs. As I stood talking to Ian Robbins, Maurice went past and I missed the chance to get him to sign my bit of paper. I had to wait around for the rest of the morning for the players to finish so that I could get his signature on his way back. Thinking about it, he's a most unlikely hero, curly hair, unkempt, a left back who used to wear his socks rolled down, but he's probably my favourite all time Latics player (Ritchie is the best, in my opinion) but Maurice sums up everything that is great about Oldham Athletic for me!! I'm sure that I'll remember many more Maurice stories over the next couple of days so thank you OWTB for making him "LOTW".
  9. From a purely selfish point of view, a decent non-league side away - a good chance that it will be on the tele However, anyone at home would probably be better. I really want us to get C*ty in the 3rd Round!!
  10. If they haven't already been featured, I'd like to see Maurice Whittle, Rodger Wylde, Paul Edwards and, Mark E Smith's favourite footballer, Harry Dowd.
  11. It looks like Th*ksin is up to his old tricks again. He controlled all the media in Thailand whilst he was our "democratically" elected PM. All you'll be able to get on BBC Manchester in 6 months time will be Maiw City propaganda. Good luck
  12. Nope. We are treated like human beings. Watching football in Thailand is a pleasurable experience. The most extreme fan behaviour I have seen was the throwing of water bottles after a contentious decision. The admission charge at home games is B30 (50p) and, if you travel with the supporters club, it's free at away games!! No comparison!!
  13. I've supported the Latics for each of my 44 years on the planet (and will continue to do so) but, I can honestly say that, I am as passionate about Chonburi FC as I am about Oldham Athletic. It's the fact that I am physically able to attend the games. There is a completely different atmosphere at Thai league matches. The fans mix happily and, at the end of the game, everyone, players, manager and supporters, come together and applaud each other's efforts. I love it. It's a world away from the English Premier League.
  14. The majority of teams in the Thai Premier League are company or forces teams. However, I support a team who represent a city (and province). We are the best supported team in the country and attact a passionate bunch of fans. Our average home attendance is about 1,800 and we regularly take 200 to away games. There were 1,500 at the match tonight. I appreciate that, by English standards, this is quite poor but here our home crowds are the equivalent of 100,000 at the Nou Camp!! Most other teams attract around 500/750. Sadly, Bovril is not available at Thai football grounds but you can drink beer and eat as much somtam as you like whilst watching the match. There was a cracking atmosphere at tonight's match as we ended a 4 match winless streak with a 3-1 victory which moved us back into 2nd place.
  15. I'm pleased to hear that it is still a part of the English football culture. I did it again this evening, on the way to the match. We won 3-1 and I'd like to think that my scarf out of the car window payed a major part in our victory. Next weekend I intend to introduce throwing toilet rolls to Thai football
  16. I used to get a real thrill, as a young lad, seeing blue and white (or tangerine and blue) scarves flying when travelling to away games. We would count the number of scarves we saw to pass the time . The reason I'm asking is because, last Saturday, I flew a scarf out of my car window, for the first time in years, as I travelled to watch my local team. My wife thought I was completely mad until I explained that was what all English football fans did. She then understood, but still thought I was mad!! Viva cultural differences!!
  17. Do people still hang their scarves out of car windows when travelling to away matches? This was all the rage when I were a lad.
  18. I remember a friend and me trying, and failling, to start a chant of, "Is that all you take away?" at that match. I can't believe that it was twenty years ago. Gulp!! I haven't listened to "Where Do You Go To My Lovely?" since.
  19. I don't really know how much credit they can be given for the result. They attend every home match and we've hardly set the world alight at BP this season! I will, however, try and get them to go to more away matches
  20. Against Gloucestershire in the Gillette(?) Cup semi final at OT. Just before midnight!!!!
  21. You're ahead of me. I'm following it on cricinfo and we still need 33. Please keep me up to date!!
  22. Ah! You must be slightly older than me. If you mean the one aginst the Windies.
  23. Farouk Engineer, Frank Hayes, David Lloyd and "The Traitor". You must be the same age as me, The Chaplain.
