  1. This is unbearable!! I just hope that the Latics win is an omen.
  2. "But will that be good enough for your Dad?" Appearing at Wembley in a major cup final. Winning promotion to the First Division. Winning the Second Division Championship with virtually the last kick of the season after coming from 0-2 down. Taking M*n U*d all the way in two epic semi finals. Beating Aston Villa, Liverpool and Southampton in the space of eight days to stay in the top flight against all odds. And still not satisfied!! I hardly think that an away win against the West Midlands equivalent of OAFC will satisfy my old man!! He's not an easy man to please!!!!
  3. There will be at least two more than usual there. It's the closest "away" match for my parents and they will be going. They don't get to as many away matches as they used to so, as it's a special occasion, you can expect a Latics win!! A corner will be turned!!! Walsall 0 Oldham 3
  4. "The residents' accents can sound like those in all sorts of different parts of the UK, and some like those in neighbouring South Derbyshire, can sound very strange. " It's not just the accents in South Derbyshire that are "strange"!!! I still haven't seen "This Is England". I do, however, agree with the poster's opinions on "Dead Man's Shoes". A great film.
  5. "YOU ARE NOT AUTHORISED TO READ THIS REPLY. PLEASE WAIT WHILE WE REDIRECT YOU TO WWW.MCFC.COM." THANK YOU. ADMIN.
  6. Where do you work? I suggest that you start looking for a new job immediately!!!!
  7. Do you think that this is a generation thing? There must be a lot of young(ish) Latics/football fans who can't remember a time when music wasn't played after a goal had been scored. In the old days (late sixties, early seventies) goals used to be greeted in two ways : For - A chant of, "It's all gone quiet over there." Against - A chant of, "You're gonna get your f$%kin' 'eads kicked in."* Now, at the risk of sounding like an old fuddy, duddy, I can't stand this trend for music being played after a goal is scored. It's yet another example of the true atmosphere being sucked out of the game. * I'm not condoning football violence. It's just a wry observation.
  8. And, I forgot to add, I know someone who taught him at school and I own his signed shirt from the Richard Graham testimonial match. Agree with all the posts on here. A great player and a true gent. I'm surprised that, so far, no-one has mentioned his great vocal performances on "Into The Valley", "Working For The Yankee Dollar" and "Woman In Winter". I'm pretty certain that he was the last professional footballer to combine his career with that of a successful rock star
  9. Great post, Diego. Burton on Trent and Oldham Athletic. The perfect combination
  10. I'm in an ideal situation to scout any future talent. I am a regular at Thai Premier League matches and I work in an large international school. Please feel free to contact me if you're interested.
  11. Notts County, away, during the championship winning season. 5,000 Latics fans, some in fancy dress, celebrating winning promotion the week before. In all honesty it was a meaningless match, which was underlined by the awful performance on the pitch! However, we would have all been denied the drama of the following week's victory over Sheffield Wednesday without it!! And who will ever forget that?!!
  12. Happy Birthday, Diego. I'll be raising a few Changs in your honour tonight. (Wish it was Marstons Pedigree!!!) I was born exactly 9 months to the day after our 11-0 home win against Southport. Coincidence?
  13. Some of you may already be aware of this story. I guess that there are some parallels with Lee Hughes, although she wasn't a high profile sports woman when she was sentenced. I believe that everybody deserves a second chance. He was stupid, more than stupid, but now, with the whole footballing world watching, he will not be able to put a foot wrong. Incidentally, during my time working in Wolverhampton, I used to visit Featherstone Prison once a week. The prisoners came from many different backgrounds. Some of the inmates were full of remorse for their crimes and were determined to make amends and turn their lives around. Others, you just knew, would re-offend and spend their lives in and out of prison. By the way, I'm not a vicar Thai Prisoner Wins Female World Title By Ronnie Nathanielsz Thailand’s Sor Siriporn has earned the distinction of being the first prisoner to win a world boxing title with a unanimous ten round decision over Japan’s Ayako Miyano at the Klong Prem Prison in Bangkok. Samson was serving a ten year prison term for peddling drugs and has two more years left on her sentence. After the fight the director general of the Corrections Department indicated that the new WBC women’s light flyweight champion could be granted parole which would enable her to fight abroad. Samson who lost in her first attempt to win the WBC minimum weight title against another Japanese, Nanako Kikuchi last May 10 moved up in weight to score a comfortable victory over Miyano. Judge Jae Bong Kim of Korea scored it 97-93, Franz Marti of Switzerland 100-91 and Noppharat Sricharoen of Thailand 98-92 all for Samson who improved her record to 8-2 with 2 knockouts. Miyano who had a record of 4-2-1 as a minimum weight and moved up in weight to fight Samson for the world title had a less than impressive record once again raising questions as to how she could fight for a world title. She won her last fight, a six round decision in February 12 against Gypsy Taeko, a southpaw with a record of 4 wins, 8 defeats and 5 draws. On December 15 last year Miyano lost a four round decision to Mayumi Kubo who had a record of 1 win, 5 defeats and 1 draw while on April 30 last year Miyano was knocked out in the fourth round by Nao Ikeyama. Internationally respected New Zealander Bruce Mc Tavish who has lived in Angeles City, Philippines for the past 40 years was the third man in the ring. McTavish who also refereed the last title fight of Samson was quoted by Edward Thangarajah of the Bangkok Post as saying “given the wonderful circumstances in which it was held, it gives me a unique feeling. I will never forget this contest.” Inmates from the Klong Prem prison followed the action on television while some prisoners were allowed to come out and watch the fights.
  14. Graeme Sharp hardly endeared himself to the Latics fans during those cup ties with Everton. So, I never really accepted him as an Oldham player. And as for his time as our manager........!!!!!!!
  15. I'd love us to get C*ty at home (do they enter in the 2nd round?). Even though I wouldn't be able to get there, I could post some nice chants for you to direct at their new owner
  16. During my last trip to England, in 2003, I was burgled. I returned home to discover that the thieves had stolen, some cufflinks, a radio cassette player, a clock and my 1973/74 Latics enamel badge. If any of them are reading this.......maybe they can help you!!!! Thai burglars are very selective!!!
  17. Thailand : Chonburi FC. My local team. I go every week, home and away. We are currently top of the Thai Premier League, which is enjoying a mid-season break (a first for me!) so we'll stay on top until the end of August at least! England : Burton Albion The Mighty Brewers!!
  18. The best player EVER to play for Oldham Athletic. That's the opinion of both my parents, who have been supporting the Latics since the 1940's. Who am I to disagree?!! The word "Legend" was invented for this man.
  19. When? : Sometime between 1989 and 1991. Where ? : Blackburn(?)
  20. An easy one, this. Stoke away in the FA Cup 78 or 79(?). We were two nil down at half time, and looking well beaten, when the match was abandoned due to a very heavy snowfall. In the rearranged tie, the following Tuesday or Wednesday, Ian Wood scored a very rare goal, from about 40 yards out, in the opening minutes. For the rest of the match we were virtually camped out in our own penalty box as Stoke absolutely battered us. Somehow we held out for a famous 1-0 win. A great experience.
  21. I'll nip in before Diego on this one. Contrary to popular belief, Vic isn't a Geordie, he's from Burton on Trent. I was at school with a lad who's dad was a good mate of his. He was one of my favourite players and I once made a spoon in a metalwork class and engraved it with the legend, "Vic Halom, Oldham Athletic." My mum probably still has it somewhere!! Didn't he end up becoming the Lib Dem candidate for a constituency in the North East?
  22. I'm looking forward to seeing this film. It's nice to know that all those "yobs" (my ex-girlfriend included!) who used to hang out by the Burton Cooper have finally amounted to something!!
  23. The car/window sticker of the time said, "It's Hell With Groves." Maybe you could include this legend in the design. He was a great player!! My mum's favourite. She only ever talks about Grovesy and Bobby Johnstone!!
