    Good points, well made. It is just a symptom of a wider malaise. I'm trying to recall which team it was earlier in the season who were having a great run but when the cup came round they couldn't play many of their loanees and an barely recognisable side got walloped.

    Good grief. This used to be a a place for debate. It's the system I'm having a go at, not Latics use of it. I find it hard to feel any great sense of connection with a team including so many players who belong to ther clubs. Just a point of view - mine.

    Getting beyond a joke. Can't blame Latics for trying to take advantage but the possibility of having more than half a team belonging to other club's makes a mockery of long term team building.

    Because it is impossoible to police and too many have abused it in the past.

    It might have been ultimately disappointing, it might not always have been scintillating but at times more than half the team has been made up of players who have come through the club rather than the journeymen here for a year or so before moving on never to be remembered. I'll settle for that

    Seemed clear to me but myabe its been a long day! At the start of next season assuming we are still in this division and someone said they could guarantee that at the end of 2008/9 we would be promoted or relegated but gave no clue as to which would you accept their offer?

    OK, we might still make the play-offs but if we don't would you accept a guarantee at the start of next season that we would leave it at the end withou any clue as to whether that meant up or down?
